Bomber Harris was, like all hired killers, sacrificed by his commissioner, as he became "hot" after Dresden. Representing the guilt of his superiors (with the RAF pilots), he was kicked out from theb RAF and he had to move to South Africa out of sight.
His statue at Whitechapel London was received with outrage and protests in 1992.

Nazi Fascism was by no means a good thing, and some extremely horrible things on an even larger scale than the allied bombing were done by Nazis, but that doesn't justify the bombing that the allies did to German civilians.

The Holocaust (6M) is one crime case and the killing of ca. 3M civilians (directly and indirecty) is another crime case. Both are unjustified. The firebombing did not help to win the war and was probably implemented to prolong it, so it would facilitate the total destruction of Germany.
Churchill knew about Holocaust early, and held it back for a year. To be nihilistic, Hitler did what the U.K. expected him to do.

Hitler didn't allow the evacuation of Germany's cities that were under the onslaught of the RAF, USAAF and Stalin's Red Army. Hitler didn't allow his 6th Army to retreat from Stalingrad even though his commanders begged for a retreat from the wintery hell. The German Luftwaffe fire bombed British cities in 1940/41 and Cologne, Hamburg, Dresden and Berlin were punished but a few years later.
