I miss you Dennis, though your music still helps:(
The Cool Ruler has just joined you, Bob, Michael, Marvin, Luther, James and even the king of soca - Arrow. Sadly, the roll call list goes on and on. May you all rest in peace and continue to enchant the Ancestors with your musical vibes.
This is truely my favourite riddim from the great honourable Dennis Brown, it brings goose pimples all over my body and reaches the deepest part of my soul. Mr Brown you are one of a kind. You will forever be in my heart. I will take this tune to my grave. PEACE & LOVE
@dedicated2u4ever This Gibbs label did this alot with their 12 inch records..."Im just a dread" is another video I have where they did a great dub version.
I love this man's music even before I was old enough to know who the singer was. I used to buy his 45s at Randy's Record store in downtown Kinston with my pocket money . I was fortunate to meet the singer when I was about 15 in Riverton City when he was practicing the song "Ghetto Girl" with 'Deeks" " Maddeeks". He came into the bar that my sister and I opened. "Pow' bar.
RIP Mr. Dennis Emmanuel Brown I will always love you and listen your music.
Every little detail about this song: the bass line, the synthesized parts, the rim shots on the snare drum, the lyrics, are details that, by themselves, make this one of the most recognizable reggae cuts ever produced. All together, they are a nuclear BOMB!! You're sure to close your eyes, bob your head and move your body to this song. If you don't, then may you Rest In Peace!
do u guys really understand the creative genius of reggae music? just listen separating each instrument in this song, piano, drum, bass wow!! and those times each man played his own instrument. can you imagine how they just knew how they wanted us to feel when we heard the song...there is no other music like reggae in the whole world!! wow and wow again!!! bloody manificent
I ABSOLUTELY LLLOOOVVVEE THIS SONG! It reminds me of the first time I fell in love with a boy at 22; I knew it when I would listen to this and think of him. He was a yard bwoy, and oh so sexy. He introduced me to Dennis Brown, and now I'm addicted forever. This sng still gives me chills...like hearing it for the first time. This is my fav DB song, what captured me was how he opened the song; period. Damn good singer is an understatement for the TRU KING of Reggae!!! R.I.P
iam crying listening to this song take me bac to my yute in kingston Jamaica miss you Dennis Brown miss jamaica so much love Ja love Hannah town missing.
The first time I heard this song was when I landed in Jamaica for the first time in my life and finally understood and felt love. After growing up in a country; England. That had mostly shown me cold harshness. It was like a revelation for my spirit to be released at the tender age of 11yrs. This song played on the ride from the airport to home and I was surrounded by my kin and felt the sun that they radiated permeate into my very core.
I feel such joy listening to this song. I was about 7 years old in Kingston Jamaica when this song was released. Never get old! Rest in Peace Dennis!!!!
This is one of the greatest rockers of all time. There will never be another. This song takes me back to when I used to DJ around the time Shabba was running things in the late 80's early 90's. I discovered so many Dennis Brown songs and sppreciated that he was majestic on both those old roots riddims (live instruments) and the synthesized riddims of the 80's and 90's (his album on the two friends label comes to mind).
Ugh!!I HAVE this 12" upstairs (the B' side with the dub rap is AWESOME too...PLEASE put that up too!!!!) but when i was back home TRYIN to record this they couldn't FIND a copy so had to GUESS what i was goin on about (hence the MESS that i got left with!!)Oh man...THIS is THE TOOOON man...!!Used ta listen to this over and OVER again when it came out...me,not even a teenager yet,but KNOWIN the BOOM when i heard it...an diss...DISS da BOOM...a troooo!!!!
once again the instruments and the masters playing them floor me everytime. Such talent! i feel the world still has not heard reggae music in it's original form...and everyone needs to experience the power/depth of this music...these types of songs need to be re-introduced to the world..trust and believe they too would be hooked for life just like i am and forever will be. Reggae music for life!!
