  • I love the necromancer

  • NERD FIGHT IN THE COMMENTS!!!!

  • dang Jon you scarey!

  • finally i saw something from the trebuchet. looks very interesting. i like, that you can't just take a circle and klick like when you use aoe. some skills just look a bit overpowered like the tornado or the lich, but i guess anet will do it's best, that everything is balanced.

after reading the 2 gw books, i really can't wait to play gw2 :D

  • that trebuchet looks like a pain in the ass

  • Aaaah yet another upcoming mmo with people who think the classes are somehow balanced even before beta, oh how history is doomed to repeat itself. Its not balanced. It wont be for awhile. Its even harder to balance action skills that need aimed anyways. Its just a fact of life, death, taxes, imbalance.

The necro was even AMBUSHED by a field of bombs that detonated on him and not only beat back, but defeated 2 people.. Im thinking lich form is OP, plus he kept his pets while using treb.

  • @DarkDain Not many GW2 fans think it's balanced atm but tbh you can't talk about balance yet anyway, they're constantly changing stuff around. For example, after Gamescom and PAX Thief went from being viewed as underpowered to being viewed as almost OP. Point is, it's too early to talk about balance one way or the other.

  • @Bulbaboy Uh, its too early to claim 'balance', its never too early to claim imbalance. No game has ever, just EVER, been released 'balanced'. The earlier the development then obviously the greater the balance issues. Every RTS and RPG and mmo ever made has gone through this same cycle and people always try and claim balance lol. Balance in THIS game is going to be HARDER to perceive, they arnt keeping track of kills, its a team effort.

  • @DarkDain Okay, you go on claiming inbalance. It won't get you anywhere because, like I said before, they're changing stuff all the time. No need to be so ignorant.

  • @Bulbaboy 1. They are changing things to find the imbalances and correct them, you admit this, accuse me, and then insult me, all in the same sentence.

    2. It wont? Gee i thought my youtube comments would make it to the developers themselves and they'd fix the issues on account of my 'claims'.

Anyone who thinks a game in pre-beta is balanced is delusional for any number of reasons. Look at (every game ever) for examples.

  • @DarkDain If he is op for 30 seconds every 3 minutes and nearly worthless in terms of damage for those 3 minutes inbetween, i fail to see how that constitutes being overpowered. The elementalist looks OP that's about it to me. No one ever claimed there was going to be balance, just more of it than games like WoW.

  • @MrJonnyh94 Who says hes nearly worthless the rest of the time? He literally spammed one attack skill to beat them both too. And even if his damage is bad 'the rest of the time', his support is great, which is an even bigger asset since its all capture and hold. Even his pets hurt alot, they didnt seem to attack the pets so they might be difficult to kill. I agree elementalists look REALLY powerful.

  • @DarkDain Or maybe they didn't attack the pets because they've been playing the game for less than 3 hours and have no idea what strategies work. You're judging balance off a match where one side has vastly more experience with the game than the other and at a point where the game isn't even in Beta. Unless 2 developer teams went head to head you can't jump to conclusions and say "oh x beats y and thats that". The fan players barely even know their class never mind how to beat others.

  • @MrJonnyh94 Maybe they've taken one shot at pets before and realized 'that will take too long' ? Notice how the engineer placed bombs around the necromancer, alot of them, before he could get out and detonated them all. That was a great play. They STILL got owned, they ambushed the guy. Im judging balanced based on pattern recognition, i.e no game is ever balanced at this stage. Ever. Yet every time a game is being released some cornball defends it.. literally 'all' evidence to the contrary.

  • @DarkDain No one is claiming it's balanced. But what's the point in pointing out imbalances in a situation where balancing wasn't even near finished and player experience was massivley imbalanced? Making any judgements where the teams aren't of equal experience and the game isn't finished is pointless because A) The scenario will never again exsist outside this one occurance and B) It isn't even meant to be balanced.

  • @MrJonnyh94 Ok well too me, a Necromancer retaining his pets while using a treb should be fixed. He was ambushed effectively by 2 players, and ended up winning with half HP at the end. That just seems a little lopsided, it wasnt these players first time. Even if he had lost, he held the area for an extended period of time which is what this mode is about. I'm confident some elements of the necromancer will be tweaked.

  • @DarkDain They probably will, keep in mind everytime they came at him he had his elite skill and all cooldowns, their strategy for trying to get rid of him was poor. Sending in 1 person to get him to blow cooldowns then following up with 2 people when he was vunerable would have been a mch better tatic for over comming the skill gap.

  • @MrJonnyh94 I wonder if either of those players had theirs and they are just alot less flashy and effective. They should of just grabbed their own treb instead of taking 2 people off defending the points. I hope they add environmental weapons to counter the treb, like an oil barrel or bomb, take it out faster.

  • @DarkDain They could even have just had a ranged character chip down the treb while it was in use rather than trying to kill the operator. Some siege damage might be a good concept, however from what i've seen the treb drops pretty quick anyway.

  • @MrJonnyh94 I wonder if Elementalists or Engineers can use the treb differently, like other environmental weapons. The treb looks a bit easy to master too, keep it aimed at the center and shoot with the same general power and it locks an area down. Wonder if guardian shields can block a treb. Heh, give treb an ammo supply that needs collected so it cant always be operated by 1 person

  • @DarkDain I think the guardians bubble can negate the treb yeah. Might make the treb pointless then if 2 people were needed to operate it you'd only have 3 people out capturing / defending points and a team of 5 would probably face roll them. Maybe if there was a longer gap between treb shots it would make it a lesser problem but as it stands it brings a depth into the match other than "oh lol capture this and hold it".

  • It depends mostly on playstyle I think...

And a thief is good at backstabbing, and jumping in-out of battle, but that might not be the best in pvp.

A ranger has good endurance, and is a balanced profession, just like the engineer, which is good at defending.

ANet's players play like this: explosive (ele/wari) and massive support (necro/guardian). Can be aggressive.

Capturing and holding a point is easy this way. And I wouldn't want to play Engineer/Thief either... doesn't fit me.

  • @GuildWar2Ranger maybe they're playing their favorite classes? or maybe even just a specific build they practiced with? no doubt the game isn't balanced yet but I doubt their goal when showing off pvp for the first time was to intentionally pick imbalanced classes and try to abuse them for everyone to see. As far as the necro goes, it was clearly built with taking on multiple enemies at once in mind so that it could defend the treb and the other tam didn't know how to deal with it.

  • @GuildWar2Ranger Bear in mind, that necro is one of the Devs, he will know the class inside out, and because he spent the whole match on the treb, chances are he used a build that allowed him to defend it when necessary. Look at the Ghost Armor ability, and see if players stopped attacking when he used it. The lack of knowledge of the challengers doesn't mean the classes are imbalanced. As for those 3 profs not being used much, maybe the traits removal hurt them more than the others.

  • Can I have my turn please! Can't wait to try out the PvP! Prepare to be stomped!! Looks awesome, the interactive maps are spicing it up nicely.

  • when i watched the so called "2v1" it wasnt a 2v1. One of his teammates came to help him out >.>

  • Necromancers are overpowered as fuck as usual. Mages are gimp, as usual.

  • @xenteko Cry about PvP balance much? Any class in any game can be countered, unless you are talking about 1v1, which is a waste of time to balance in a CLASS BASED game. PvP games are better when there is a class that counters your own, because at the same time you will be a menace for some other class. Letting players duel was the dumbest thing Blizzard ever did.

  • By more complex, I'm pretty much talking about you need to know a bit more to counter them.

  • It's not that any professions are OP, it's that exploiting their weaknesses is a slightly more complex thing to do. Like necro for example: both of those two blue teams players tried to attack him when he was at the trebuchet, but kept fighting on even when he popped his elite. The necro elite is probably the absolute best at fighting multiple enemies at once, so they should have made him trigger it, then run, then come back when it wore off.

  • wow, everyone who competed there got GW2 Tea. Awesome.

  • Complaining about ele? Necro could 2v1 and take down both!

  • Wind meel! Or wind meal!

    xD

  • @Vayshen Windmill*

  • @Augustenborgify The presentator would like to have a word with you!

  • The way that announcer pronounces "wind mill" is extraordinarily distracting.

  • The trebuche is no less or more powerful than it was at Gamescom because it's the same exact build. I saw it kill more than a few players at Gamescom doing 10k damage +.

At least this match is closer than the Gamescom ones were. But someone has to hammer Anet one of these days! We have one more series of matches tomorrow. Come on blue team! lol

  • I love how people were calling the treb useless in gamecon and now they think is OP, humans are so funny sometimes.

  • GOD DAMNIT! I DIDNT SEE THOSE KILLS BECAUSE MORON IS SHOWING PEOPLE WHO JUST RUN AROUND / STAND AT POINTS !!!

  • Brilliant strategy by ANet. Necros can't normally summon multiple minions (with a single skill anyway), but the Lich Form elite allows you to do that, and ANet used that to spawn a minion army to protect the trebuchet.

  • If it had ff, then it would only be used for griefing.

  • @DarkPractitioner Yes, exactly. If the treb had FF, I can imagine every other PUG game you get into would have a griefer.

  • @DarkPractitioner As far a griefing is concerned it would be as simple as having friendly fire off in pick up play, and turning it on for organized games.

  • Pro Necromancer!

  • Does anyone else think that the trebuchet not having friendly fire is bs?

    Besides that, amazing competition.

  • @AikaTenlo that would make the trebuchet almost useless

  • @mhrce I don't think it would. I think they are really trying to emphasize the treb on this map so they want to make it extremely effective, almost overly effective by taking away FF so that players will pay attention to it. As you can see most players seem to ignore it anyway. Once people learn to take advantage of it (like Anet) it will be the centerpiece of this map like they want it to be. FF would reduce its effectiveness but I don't think it would be close to useless.

  • @kinorobloodlust i think they reduced the blast radius then they can turn on FF, otherwise i'd imagine people would just start ignoring the treb.

  • @kinorobloodlust yeah, i see it as too effective as well, but i think putting on friendly fire would severely reduce how useful it is to the point that they wouldnt want to waste one player using it at all times. this would mean that you could only use the treb at points where you have no allies since it is so hard to gauge how far/where you are shooting it. if friendly fire was introduced i definitely wouldnt waste one player using the treb at all times.

  • @AikaTenlo Well, it's all about the game mechanics, and adding another element to the battle. It is a Trebuchet to fit the style, but they could maybe have made something that is more logical to not hurt friends. i don't know.

  • That was a pretty good match, the blue team just underestimated the power of the trebuchet and Necro that was manning it. Necro definitely looks to be a strong defensive profession.

  • they got pwned lol
