  • Sounds terrible, like an irritating back wash but maybe if I wasn't into Neo Classical and Virtuoso music it would sound "Insanely Awesome!"

  • Still loving you guys ! Great performance..

  • Good cover, slightly ruined by trying to play waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many notes. Get rid of the shredding and it would be excellent

  • @georgeprowse You're obviously not familiar with Maggot Brain. It's a lead guitar extravaganza.

  • mindblowing

  • Cool ^^

  • J is god!

  • Oh. I thought that song was an instrumental. I thought maybe the bass player was doing some sort of odd improv poetry of his own as an intro.

  • "The bass player" is Mike Watt... one of the best bassists EVER. Dig it.

  • @jongreek...that's the spoken word before a Funkadelic song called "Maggot Brain"

  • for yall have knocked her up

  • J Mascis did a version of Maggot Brain on Mike Watt's album with Bernie Worrell himself on keyboards.

  • Mike Watt is friggin' awesome in this video.

  • maggot brain is all about how you interpret it..if this is how this guy wants to play maggot brain then thats how hes gonna play it...even hampton doesnt play it the same everytime

  • It goes a little beyond pentatonic here dude.

  • l2 J Mascis

  • i think its an intrepretation, thats kinda the point

  • at 2:29 there is a very audible shout of "Fuck You!"

  • Parlaiment! Watt! J.Mascis!!! This show would have been better than going down on Madonna.

  • ummm what wouldnt be better than going down on madonna?theres brobably some leftover baseball or basketball players hanging out in there.

  • Awesome version of an awesome song by an awesome musician. I love J. Mascis and Dinosaur Jr. J. has the coolest voice. Anyone here like the fucking champs?

  • the fucking champs are rad. instrumental shit , yeah?got a gang of it on my ipod, never seen a cd/record cover tho. they from s.f.?im gonna look em rite now, dog.

  • Yeah I believe they're from SF. They were first called the champs (not to be confused with the 60's band of the same name). All their album titles are numbered, they have up to 6 albums, as well as some with the group Trans Am under the names TransChamps, and The Fucking Am. Peace.

  • yknow, its not actually a written out song if you listen to the live funkadelic version of it. just mainly the first part, which j did. btw, its not a parliament funkadelic song, just a funkadelic song( although thats basicallyt he same band)

  • brilliant.

  • J is god. I can't believe how amazing he is here... or anywhere

  • Mascis killed that shit

  • I love Mike and J is pretty cool but I dunno how to feel bout this Eddie Hazel is like god to me...

  • dude,

    wtf?

  • Is this guy for real? Watt...sounding like shit? Idiot.

  • Sad, ignorant minor. Educate yourself about these legends, then come back and talk. Until then, go back to your room, stand in the corner, and stare at your Panic At The Disco poster.

  • The stupidest comment I've ever seen on youtube. stick with your nickleback and stop posting dumbass, uneducated, moronic comments. did I mention that you're a dumbass? and a douchebag??

  • oh my goodness. you're an idiot. have u ever even heard of j mascis? wow. go back to fallout boy and nickelback, kid. how did you even find this vid?

  • go jerk yourself of on your britney spears poster you dumb F**k

J mascis is a legend dont go and call him "the guitar player". and mike watt rules.

  • Probably the best lead guitarist to ever come out of the punk world.

  • dito pala ginaya ni steve vai yung for the love of god punks not dead

  • Fuck man this is 2 short.Maggot Brain should be at least 10 minutes

  • Listen to the original by Parliament...Bernie Worrell rips it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wtf?

  • Remember that on Ball-Hog or Tugboat J did the song and it went 12 minutes. This is just a short version of it. J knows the whole thing; listen on Rhapsody or something.

  • come on mkahl it's called improvisation. bottom line is it rocks. don't be all anal about it

  • wow, i never knew j mascis could play like THAT

  • oh fuck yeah. this should be like 10 minutes long.

  • ok, how was it wrote out? musically, perhaps but as far as lyrics go and such, yea, i think you can rock out on it and also i think J Mascis here just made it a hell of a lot better.

  • i like the live version on the "one nation under a groove' album much better than the original from the maggot brain album. But you can hear pure skill in every version when Eddie Hazel plays

  • I agree that you dont have to cover a song note for note. You have to put your own style to it. I think this a great version. But to say its better than the original now thats going to far!!

  • not better in my opinion. but different and hella tight. Never heard somebody play it like this b4.and almost every famous guitar player tried 2 play maggot brain.

  • so what? what would be the point of replicating it note for note , other than perhaps to satisfy anal retentives like yourself? im a massive eddie hazel fan too!

  • you are right my man....maggot Brain is a feeling and not everybody can feel it the same way but that doesn't make it better or worse

  • Go, Maggot Brain!

  • Wow!!

  • isn't that Perkins on the drums?

great video, the version on Ball-Hog or Tugboat is amazing

  • it doesnt get any better than mike watt, j mascis and funkadelic

  • J and Watt - the best.

  • A-MA-ZING!
