  • Marc Russo just wrecked your shit!

  • Now that's a band

  • the sax solo in this song was absolute talent...he took that thing to a whole other level...i dont even know what else to say about it...this song is on my greatest hits album and this was the first time i seen the video....im floored by it...listening to it is one thing, but seeing it in action....WOW!!!!

  • They released this video as a special feature on the Live At 25 DVD :-)

  • Gran voz la de Huey , pedazo de concierto :)

  • Just perfect!

  • Wanna quit drums and grab a Sax

  • @slashdelbarrio funny thing is i also play drums and i was thinking the exact same thing...lol

  • I was born in the wrong decade, why couldn't I have been a 80's child growing up?

  • This live performance is just sooo good. Unbelievably tight, and bloody hell, Marc Russo blows that sax another asshole!..

The 80's had some of the most talented musos who ever walked the planet. Fantastic stuff !!!

  • There's another guy who loves performing. That's what makes him so great. Just like my other favorite singer, Michael Hutchence from INXS.

  • Everything else held up alright in here

    Except sports by Huey Lewis

  • At first, I listened to this song on "USA gfor Africa" albam. Nice one!

  • I love how Huey sings, "Troubley in paradise" in this song.

  • Love this song! I think it's my favorite track from Huey Lewis and the News.

  • sweet feelings from the 80s. great time with great bands. Love it.

  • did evry song have video ?i would lust after seeing tina turner looking sultry for 'total control'.

  • what the hell is he singing at 3:11?

  • Man, I remember hearing that alto solo the first time in utter disbelief. I knew it was the TOP horns so assumed it was Lenny Pickett. Who else could play with that much technique AND soul. I guess Mark Russo! Kudos to him.

  • This is one of my favourite live performances from any band ever, Huey Lewis and the News totally rock!

  • Actually Marc Russo plays the Alto sax. :)

  • If I didn't know any better, I'd think this performance is the one that was included on the USA for Africa LP We Are the World, at the end of Side 2, or at least very close.

Incidentally, Huey Lewis & the News are one of my boyhood musical influences. I was in nursery school when they were at their commercial height. Listening to their stuff was a lot of fun.

  • @CircleCityEric This IS the version included in the USA For Africa album. I know this version by heart and it was my favorite tune from that LP.

  • hahaha oohhhh great

  • Probably the best LIVE performance at the Apollo Theatre!!!! :D *thumbs up* :D

  • At 2:44, I am SO close to being able to play those notes on my alto :D once I get them down, the hard part will be trying to get them to be in tune XD then the next step is incorporating them into an awesome solo like that :)

  • This song is the balls. I was a major Huey Lewis fan in High School.

  • Best Sax Solo Ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • too Cool...The band and Huey are WAY Beyond Hip!!

  • Live music doesn't get any better than this!

  • as good as it gets

  • Great Song Mate

  • Tower of Power, baby! This song features the absolute greatest saxophone solo I have EVER heard. It gives me chills every time I listen to it. And in the latter part of the song; man, that guy just tortures the hell out of that thing.

Did you catch the guy next to the guy in white pointing at him during the sax solo and at the end of the song? It looks as though he's saying, "Holy sh!t, would you LISTEN to that?!"

    Love it.

  • Huey Lewis and the News "Rocks", and when they added the Tower of Power horn section it made it even better with all these musicians. Gotta love the music from that time. It was done with heart and soul.

  • great quality!! thank you for posting!!

  • This is not my favorite song of theirs, but it IS my #1 live rendition of any of their songs. When they released TIME FLIES, I am glad they included this version to represent the song.

  • Hall & Oates and Huey Lewis and the News were my favorites from the 80s. Love this tune....

  • This is my favorite track off the "We Are the World" album, but I hadn't heard the song in years and I somehow had never seen the video before. Huey and the boys were definite at their peak back then. Thanks for sharing!

  • This song is TIMELESS...

Back To The Future picked the right band.

  • a very small nitpick whatiship73 - you have Marc Russo listed as a tenor player when he's an alto player.

  • Looking back now I can honestly say that this is their best song. The other one that could possibly be tied with this is Walking on a thin line. To me the three songs by Huey Lewis and the News that have really stood the test of time are Bad is Bad Walking on a thin line and Trouble in Paradise. Neither of these were big hits though.

  • At 0:32 does he say "plenty of lines" and then make a cocaine-noise gesture?

  • The best performance of the bando live

  • Wow, The Doctor was skinny back then.

  • A very underrated song by these guys.

  • @WEINBAUER I agree it never became a big hit but it really is a good song even after all these years

  • @MrBuc128 Totally agree. This and Walking On A Thin Line were some of the best written songs they ever did.

  • @WEINBAUER Yes walking on a thin line is a great song.

  • @trollywoodstudios I DON'T KNOW

  • Marc Russo PWNED the hell out of Johnny Colla with that solo!!!!!!!

  • @fetymann Amen... the man's altissimo is just freaking insane. I so love this concert, I have it on commercial VHS and digitized it for my iPod... :)

  • @Llarion Hell yeah, I have it on VHS too :) Was meaning to rip it long ago cuz it wasn't on YT yet, but someone beat me to it.

  • Huey Lewis is so hot

  • @Pivosquash He's the whole package, good looking, nice, and talented. Why can't guys be like that today?

  • amazing sax solos

  • Huey had a great style and sound. He had class and showmanship. He still sells out today and puts on a great show..thanks for the memories your songs gave me, I loved the 80"s

  • Huey Lewis comme on l'aime; autant rock que blues et jazzy. C'est pas demain qu'on aura du aussi bon dans le genre. Thanks Huey Lewis & The News.

    Tonton Doc, Station-709, France.

  • it does NOT get any cooler than this. Especially at 3:45

  • Saw Huey and the boys last night at our Elkhart County fair along with about 8, 000 others!!!. New album later this year. These guys still put on a great show, have fun, and it was just a rockin'good time. For those of you who he's coming to, go see'em. Take your kids.

  • These guys will be in Daytona Beach for the American Music Festival first weekend of September.

  • These guys?!! This is music!!

  • This concert was on Warner Home Video years ago...I bought a copy in 1985 or so on VHS.....lost it long ago.

  • they are touring right now! Trying to talk the wife into seeing Aug.24 in Snolqualmie, WA!!

  • @enm97 AWESOME!!! Which county fair?

  • what a great band!!! solos impressive!!! i want this song in my car tunes. =) Huey come on, come back!!!! we miss good 80s songs!!

  • Is this video concert available anywhere, i remember recording it off the tv when i was younger but i only got half of the concert. I like the bit where he interviews his-self, ha ha ha

  • 20 years since he wrong this song! And it's still sweet to the ears. ;)

  • Unforgettable voice of Hewey Lewis - great band - classic. This is the stuff that I grew up on.

  • gorgeous

  • Love the sax solos. Smooth handoff from Colla to Russo--like a 2-stage rocket, Colla's the booster and Russo takes it into orbit. Awsome.

  • Saw Huey Twice in My Life. The Best Show Period. Don't care for anyone ele Thank You Huey.!!! P.S Therefore, My YouTube Name !!!

  • love there music HLN

  • this version was featured on the "USA for Africa : We Are The World" album and also this song was recorded live i believe in Feb of 1985 at the Kabuki Theater in San Francisco, CA

  • @Fieldsfangirl28 ...so glad I'm not the only who likes to keep up on the all the little details..thanks fangirl!!!! appreciate ya!!

  • This song was on their first album in 1980

  • They are coming back!!!! I looooooovvvvvveee this band, and I have been to at least 5 concerts in 1 year. LOVE him, such a nice guy (I met him a couple of times, sooooooo sweet!!!)

  • @Liongrowwwwl97 they are coming to our county fair this summer. We're expecting around 10,000 for the concert. It will be great.

  • This band, The Tubes, Jay Giles, and so many other big-guy-bands of the 80s sure helped to make that one great decade for rock music. What memories!

  • Marc Russo DESTROYS Johhny Colla!

  • I saw them in 1989 in Melbourne, they have so much fun on stage. They're coming back !

  • They're coming bacK? I must see them.

  • Greatest band in the WORLD folks. Believe it.

  • wow great

  • Saw these guys in '87 on the FORE tour. One of the best live acts ever. Played for a long time, several encores for the L.A. Forum crowd. Huey finally said, "Come on, I'm old and need to go to sleep!"

  • on of the most talented groups in the 80ties..no question

  • Russo rule's!!!

  • I agree about the good mood - HLATN always leave me smiling. If you liked Marc Russo's sax solo, check him out on Celebrate Me Home by Kenny Loggins at the "Live At The Grand Canyon" Concert in 1991 - pure inspiration.

  • I actually like the version from "Outside: From the Redwoods" better.

  • The Good Mood Band

  • As a child this was my favorite band

  • Yeah they were this tight They've been thrown in with the mix of 80's music but as far as more standard rock and roll goes, there are few bands this polished

this was at the Kubuki Theater in San F

and Marc Russo really outshined Johnny Colla in this one and Johnny was a good sax player, but Russo could hit those altissimo's like no one else except maybe Lenny Pickett

  • Yeah, I like Russo; I've always enjoyed his stuff with Kenny Loggins.

  • Comment removed

  • I saw the news live with the tower of power. they were indeed that tight. this is a group of truly talent musicians.

  • Are they really this tight and polished live? This sounds almost too good to actually be live.

  • Tower of Power is always that tight. Watch them live if you can. They are amazing. Of course the news weren't bad at all.

  • Honestly? That's just good live music. In fact it could even be better than that. I wonder if people have forgotten what a good live band is really like. One other thing about HLN, their live backing vocals were always great. Some of today's big stars can't even get close to that.

  • Believe it !!! .. I saw them on the Fore tour in 87 and it was a total mental melt down .. what you hear in this vid is what you got back then !!!

  • @b7160 Yes, they are that good. It is possible. Hard to believe given the mainstream garbage these days.

  • This was at Live Aid if I'm not mistaken.

  • Actually this was from a Huey Lewis concert broadcast on either Showtime or HBO .

  • Yep. I saw it on cable TV back in the mid 80s but can't remember the channel.

  • Marc Russo for president!!

Best ever on the alto. Watch the Yellowjackets Revelationvideo and see what I mean. Need no drugs after that.

  • these guys were so tight! I got to do concert security for them back around 1991. I met them before the show and they were really down to earth.

  • Love the alto sax solo

  • I love Marc Russo! The bands not bad either! (haha)

  • i had this on vinyl we are the world album .this was a high light for sure .huey is cool and tower of power amazing horns.love the guitar chris was under rated definitely. this and if this is it are my favourites .though i love sports album and power of love off fore .huey rocks!!

  • that song is not from the sports album...

  • if you read my posting closely you will see i was just saying i loved sports album. i stated at the star of my posting that this song is on we are the world.not sports.

  • sorry I was kind of drunk, my mistake ...

  • hey no problem it,s an awesome tune tower of power incredible.peace!

  • But then again Power of Love wasn't on Fore?

  • This crowd has no idea what they just heard in that sax solo!

    Awesome!

  • These guys had alot of good sleeper hits that could have been singles.

  • im a sax player and this song, especially the solo i wanna learn

  • Best version of this song

  • i think this is the only version

  • What the names in the horn section?

  • Tower of Power Horns. Greg Adams on trumpet...I think Mick Gillette also..Not sure Doc on Bari, Mark Russo on Alto, Emelio Castillo on Tenor. Saw this Live....In F-ingcredible!

  • I thought that I was crazy but the crowd seems that don´t appreaciate that notes!!!

MAN THAT´S HEAVEN every time I listen this version, scream on the high notes..man!!!

AMAZING ..by the way thanks for the info...

  • i know sax player is lenny pickett, trumpet ,s greg adams ,mic gillete and a guy called steve kupka bit i don,t know what he play,s.help us out people let,s work on this!

  • Read the description, it's correct.

  • huey lewis & the news le meilleur groupe des années 80

  • Saw them 2 years after this concert was released and if you can believe it ... THEY WERE EVEN BETTER than this amazing performance !!!

  • Was that with Robert Cray opening, and with Richard Elliott playing with the TOP horns?

  • No opening act when I saw them which is something I prefer anyways . They played for 2 hrs and 45 mins that evening !!! ... Not sure about the line-up for the TOP that night but I know "The Doctor" was on baritone sax ... he's impossible to mistake ... lol .. Regardless , the horns were AMAZING !!!

I saw them again about 3 years ago and Johnny Colla was sooooo much better !!! .. He was great then but he's a complete monster player now !!!

  • best music of the eighties: Huey Lewis, Poison, David Sanborn, The Beaver Brown Band and Lenny Pickett

  • The emotional feeling he gave to his performance on stage... oooh the 80´s! Best music ever. Huey Lewis unforgetable.

  • Groovy. So very groovy.

  • good

  • K..l'm playing a lil' game w/myself. It's called AM I SOBER ENOUGH??? I'm trying to name the members of the News....Huey, Johnny Colla (Guitars, horns, vocals) Sean Hopper, Chris (guitar player), Dennis Gibson (Drummer, vocals), Mario (bass, vocals). Am l close?

  • no

    Bill Gibson plays drums.

    Mario doesn't sing

    Sean plays keyboards.

  • There was a band called The San Fransisco Allstars where you can hear a song sung by mario . theres a live concert online somewhere

  • Some of the best Sax on Youtube.

  • Huey Lewis & The News was my first concert. I agree that their place in music history may be underrated. I think they're one of the best of all time.

  • It's up to us fans to make them popular again. Sadly, many radio stations only do have "The Power Of Love". Let's keep HLN alive!

  • What does he say in the last verse- something about "that's good advice"?

  • "Five long years since I wrote this song

Many people dying, so many gone

    Take one more

    Coming still as good advice."

  • Thanks, I've been trying to figure out those lyrics for years:-)

  • Fab!!

What does he says?`` He used to be cool he used to laugh for laugh

    Down ...................in the parking lot.´´

  • ... at the Kabuki (the room where this was shot)

  • Thanx

  • Great video !!!

  • I am very proud to say I am 19, living in a generation filled with people who are obsessed with rap music and come in the middle of it all, blasting this song on my car stereo!

  • You've got good taste! Huey rocks! Turn it up!! :)

  • LOL..Austin...if you were living in the 80's and gigging...they were not "under rated" they were the standard to be measured against. I wish we had music today with such great dance beats...geeeze...I am starting to sound like my Dad..who would be almost 100 years old!

  • I really think Huey Lewis and the News is the most underrated music group in recent history.

  • Huey Lewis and The News were gods of radio music in the 80s, the 90s werent too kind to them but in this decade everyone looks back and misses these kinds of bands

  • Yeeeeeeah!!!!

  • Amazing what 24 years did to Doc's looks....but....he still rocks on the Bari!

  • I always thought this was the best song on the We Are The World Album, other than the title song. I wish it would have been a hit single.

  • Loved this song! what a great performance,J Colla is a good player , but when Mark Russo takes over its Fantastic!!! I cant get that high! not even on drugs!! cheers for posting this Mate!

  • Best version of this great song. I originally heard it years ago when I brought the album "U. S. A. for Africa" Remember "We are the World"? Anyway, this song was the last song. Great live performance I must say. I've been looking for it for years. Thanks for posting!

  • nice!!!!!!!!!

  • It has also been issued on their latest DVD "Live At 25" as a bonus clip.

  • Gotta love that sax goin to the stratosphere with optissimo

  • hey that's awesome. i have the time flies..... cd and i wanted to see this video thanx :)

  • You should been around BEFORE the 80's! The only way Huey could get a contract was with DISCO which made him and his band sound like a club band, not for real. Huey played the streets of Europe for years and years for nickles. Too bad what a guy has to do to make a living with music in the U.S!!

  • Played the Alto, Tenor, and Bari...wouldn't play the Soprano and could never find a Bass...I'll take the Tenor all day. The thing about this...Johnny did get owned and I always thought those solo's should have been his.

  • they can all sing. so great

  • with all of the good music that came out in the 80's, how in the world did we wind up with such garbage as we have today???!!(well at least on the radio anyway)

  • The really amazing thing about the sax solo is that Johnny Colla ends on a note out of the "Standard" range for a sax(ends on like a b above the F# that ends the "standard" range and the tower of power guy just keeps on going up and up all the way to a "b" two octaves above that). Simply amazing! By the way I have this entire show on Vhs and I transferd it to Dvd. It was produced by Showtime way back when they used to have regular weekend concerts. Bought it at Schuncks for like $1.50 Lucky me.

  • The thig about Johnny is that he uses too much tenor sax. This song,is it me, and back in time are the only times he ever uses the alto.

  • Johnny got OWNED by Mark Russo!

  • simply awesome sax player. Makes me want to pick up my sax again.

  • I have been waiting to see the video of this for almost 2 decades. I grew up in the 80s listening to the USA For Africa/We Are the World album and this was on the B side I believe. Simply amazing.

  • is this the soundtrack of any movies? i have this kind of feeling to already had heard this song before...

  • maybe on the 'we are the world album'??? :)

  • thanks goofy! you were right! thanks a lot!

  • This song is avail. On the "USA FOR AFRICA/ We Are The World " Album which is on Cd on behalf of Polygram/Mercury and also this song can be found on the album "Time Flies: The Best Of Huey Lewis and The News" on Elektra Entertainment in 1996.

  • Crazy sax solo...

  • Good old Lenny Pickett of ToP. Simply amazing.

  • Nope. Not Lenny Pickett. Mark Russo. Now playing with the Doobie Brothers. Lenny was long gone from TOP by the mid 80's when the TOP horns toured with HLN.

  • Great song by HLN.
