The reason they didn't follow the manga with the first amines is because it was still being written when new episodes had to be made. Brotherhood follows the manga almost exactly because they made it after the manga series had finished.

@link0lover Here's the deal: in the first FMA the animators went to the author of the manga and realised that if they made the show following the same timeline as the manga, the episodes would air, like, years before it was published in the manga. So, they came up with an alternate ending to happen in the first FMA series. FMA:B is the way it is supposed to be in the manga. And, trust me, it is, like, a MILLION x more epic!

Okay!!!! For everyone arguing about which version of FMA is better how about this.

1st anime= Darker Story line-Fewer Episodes-Less Fights-less predictable- better soundtrack-more ova's-actually good filler episodes

Brotherhood-original, lighter story-more characters-more fights-more predictable-okay soundtrack-more episodes-no filler episodes I'm not bias towards either and like both. Everyone is entitled to there own opinions so haters go make fun of something else.

I highly doubt that exaggeration, every single moment. I've seen Hellsing Ultimate 1 twice (remember it all well too) but still bought it regardless. Simply all i'm saying is that if you were an actual fan of FullMetal Alchemist then you would make some purchase towards the series.
