  • Jimmy Page looks like he's got to pee. but he's still smoking that acoustic.

  • Those Midnight Moonlight chords are absolutely heavenly.

  • how wasted was he here he looks fucked i bet he was doing a lot of herorin at the time

  • @shredmaster100 I think Jack Daniels, more likely! He's carrying too much weight here for smack. Rock on Jimmy....you're one of a kind!!!

  • yeah i like it when jimmys wasted hes cool the funniest concert he did though has to be the live aid concert because when hes playing the stairway solo he forgets where he is and just keeps going on and on and eventually robert has to start singing over page its really funny

  • Jimmy Page just mentioned Motorhead. Witch means he's sat down and listen to Motorhead... Fuckin' awesome.

  • motorhead are heavy metal man and i wonder if hes heard any metallica or megadeath before because that would be awesome

  • kashmir chords start at 2:01

  • Is he using DADGAD tuning for all the songs here? Because I think Kashmir is always played in that tuning.

  • @mstech89 yes he is :)

  • I laughed my ass off at the last two seconds

  • Oooh! Midnight Moonlight intro @1:42! Nice!

  • @m1s73r4nd3rs0n

comprehend that metal musicians said themselves they were influenced by Zeppelin. who are you to to tell us differently? get that through YOUR ignoramus head.

  • @lntimidating I'll tell u who I am. I'm th 1 who's repeatin th tru stance/sentiments of page&plant since i've hrd it sed in interviews by th guys thmslves. They nevr likd th term "heavy metal" as applied 2Led Zep. They alwys considerd wt they did 2b far broadr thn tht. Besides, whn they "became part of th scene" it was known as "heavy rock" back then. &Just cos metal bands were influenced by them doesn't mean that's wht they were ! Page&Plant were influenced by RockNroll, Blues &folk &more

  • Jimmy I love you

  • what guitar is that?exactly.

  • I wouldn't say that they did heavy metal, ( they might have influenced it) but the majority of led Zeppelin was normal rock. I have all their albums and have Listened to them many times, barley any hard rock. Then again, heavy metal was different back then, not even ac-dc was heavy metal, just hard rock

  • awesome man.....

  • AND THEN"!! lmao

  • he's so fucking high!!!

  • Heavy Metal?

  • peace

  • He's so restless. Still, as Omni points out, I could watch JP play 24x7.

  • I lol'd at "...the bunch of cunts" at the end of the vid

  • "I don't own this, I just believe this video should be freely available for everybody to view." by TheEvilWeed ....Yep..I agree

  • i really love jimmy page style, i just love it

  • Which guitar model is this?

  • i want to be that guitar

  • I think this guy once played for a band called The Led Zeppelins

  • how can u not love jimmy page the best guitarist in my humble opinion, hes so mesmerising i never get enough of watchin r listenin 2 him play, never stop rockin' jimmy page

  • Jimmy is mesmerizing, I could watch him play forever and a day.

  • hes playing in dadgad, the same tuning as kashmir, thats how he morphed the song right into kashmir, if you look up a how to play kashmir, its pretty easy as long as the tuning is right, i learned it in about ten minutes.

  • "And then..." Kashmir, classic.

  • EPIC GUITARPLAYING-random "and then" - EPIC GUITARPLAYING

  • You earned the right to use it. Good call. More people should use this excuse.

  • It's interesting what he's on about here. The concept of "Heavy Metal" was entirely different 30 years ago. Metalcore, Numetal, Black Metal, Death Metal, Deathcore, Blackcore, & all modern sub-genres of metal all came about because of "Heavy Metal", which was in all honesty, a lot "softer" than today's metal.

  • @dann3th3manni3 a lot better too

  • @dann3th3manni3 And a lot better too!

  • whats the name of the song where he says "and then" on 2:04?

  • @alish911 kashmir

  • Can you subtitle it???Because I don't understand when he speaks....I'm not english!!!! Please!!! =)

  • @stefanopage94 be thankful he isnt Scottish! then you'd be really confused!

Mr Page, you are still a rock-god!

  • I could sit back, play guitar with him. If brought over a six pack of New Castle Brown ale... Oh wait. That was my friend yesterday, who is just as great of a guitarist. Good men, James? Do not your sour son James!

  • lol he was high

    ....,,,

  • no matter what, there is always a Led Zeppelin song being played somewhere on this planet. That will not change until the world stops turning. Trust in that

  • @mystro810 listening to Whole lotta love right now :D

  • Midnight moonlight originated from led zeppelins Physical graffiti outtake "swan song"

  • What was he on during this interview?

  • the guitar is in DADGAD tuning correct?

  • @coal1987 Correct.

  • Can't decide if he had some to drink or not or smoked a joint or something. lol His movements seem like he's feelin good. Seems very mellow and very cheery. More than usual. Always like his insights about music.

  • @LedWilde. Apparently this was filmed when he was coming to the end of his heroin days. so i've been told. but boy is he wired!

  • Comment removed

  • @LedWilde

Haha, yeah I remember that interview...Robert Plant was acting like a total prick and Jimmy couldn't even construct a sentence.

  • @dodgydoolittle He stopped doing heroin long before that. In 1984.

  • sweeettttt

  • 2:03 and 2:34 SOOO CCUUUTTTEEE!!!! made me smile!

  • @TheEvilWeed

One of the demos originally named 'Swan Song' recorded during the Headly Grange Sessions sounds EXACTLY as played from 1:32 to 1:58. 'Mignight Moonlight' was a combination of more than one of the unused riffs from those sessions.

  • This was my first exposure to Jimmy Page back when I was an impressionable youth. Consequently I ignored Zeppelin for about 15 years. Silly. Now my favorite band.

  • he's hot

  • stoned, drunked, sloppy !! He is always the greatest of all !! was, is and will be for ever : a musical monster....with an extraordinary sensitivity

  • He's so high right there lol.

  • hey thanks for posting this

  • look at that sweet smile he gives he's irresistable.

  • Bad ass clip right there. Cheers for posting, love the disclaimer outro.

  • does he have a un wound g string on his guitar?

  • he look messed up

  • Ltl bit pished aren't we Jim 'ol boy??? The begining is definately White Summer written during his Yaredbird days there's a live version of is on How The West Was Won.

  • I remember this was on fairly late at night around Christmas in 1989. I've still got it on video, I think.

I think it was the first time I'd ever heard him talk. From this I learned how to play White Summer and Kashmir (quite badly but they're fun to learn).

    He was pissed (drunk) here.

  • Wow often i find my self writing stuff like this! ;) Talk about some reassurance!

  • i like the credits at the end LOL

  • he was drunk in the interview i remember this very well still got this on vhs somewhere...

  • hes drunk lol

  • Stunning performance by Jimmy Page, probably my favourite guitarist. I also understand your feelings about WMG...

  • Jimmy Page is the One!! Fucking greatest guitar player ever!! What a legend!

  • This is who he lifted it from:

    /watch?v=SwVsLcawHwQ

  • Thumbs up if you jizzed your pants when jimmy started playing kashmir.

  • DADGAD baby!

  • If I'm not able to play that, say, 5 years from now, I'll consider my life ruined...

  • guitarists dont play like this because they learn guitar they dont master it like jimmy has

  • I could watch Jimmy Page play on forever.

  • @OmniTron1000 me too

  • Répondre à cette vidéo...me too extraordinary artist

  • @OmniTron1000 He´s the only one that can make me feel better, or worse with his melodies.

  • Wow is Jimmy drunk :D

  • fukin awesome

  • Wake up in the morning

    Make A cup of tea

and listen to Jimmy Page play acoustic guitar

    Life is great to live!

  • Not a great guitarist but probably the best guitar composer.

  • he's on coke dope and beer heehheheeh

  • no he stopped heroin in the begining of 79 he said he's smoked weed acouple times after that. other than that he is clean.

  • @brandontylerkaiser Nah he quit the heroin in 84 and then became a heavy drinker. As for right now though, he doesn't even touch alcohol.

  • No in my zeppelin book it say's "jimmy started to lay off of smack around the beginging of 79'. He told me " Richard i think i'm addicted". it began to become a problem but he got of off the drugs before i did. we went to his daughters dance party and that was the last of jimmy's heroin taking's."

  • what are the cords from 1:32 - 1:58 ?

    thanks if anyone answers

    laterz

  • @diaghilev

There's a sort of tutorial in the Video Responses - Re: Midnight Moonlight chords

  • I love Jimmy...BUT he really hasn't done anything creative since 1975! Thats a long time to be regurgitating a DADGAD tuning for the 8,000th time..He was the best ever...Most adventurous, best tone, GREAT ideas and execution.Too bad he died musically when Bonham checked out.

  • @johnnyd63 not to be rude mate, but i think you'll find that Bonham is alot more dead than page is at the moment if you get waht i mean. But yes, it would be great if jimmy reminded the world just how good he is with a new album

  • @johnnyd63 Ok What About "Achilles Last Stand" Listen to That ;)

  • @johnnyd63 uh haven't you heard ''presence''?

  • @BleachTW Uh....yeah I have...Recorded late 1975,released 1976.

  • @johnnyd63 Also He had some great stuff on In Through The Out Door Jones is the reason that album is a masterpiece

  • @TheEvilWeed Hey EvilWeed, Hows it going? I'm In New Zealand. You say this piece is from a doco? Can you post the whole part wih Page? Cheers

  • @R0ckers2R0ckers

This IS the whole of it. Just 2 short clips, which I edited together, minus the 1969 Led Zeppelin coverage which WMG objected to (eventhough the whole thing is on YouTube somewhere). If you want to see the whole Arena documentary, search for 'badwolf1973'. All 6 part's are on his channel. Thanks

  • @TheEvilWeed Hey EvilWeed, Hows it going? I'm In New Zealand. You say this piece is from a doco? Can you post the whole part wih Page? Cheers LOL I didn't see your credits til the end of course, and I agree

  • @diaghilev the song is 'Midnight Moonlight'-off the 1st Firm album-excellent album & song,highly reccomended,if you can find it

  • Its the opening sequence from a song called Midnight Moonlight by Jimmy Page on the first album with The Firm (Paul Rodgers et al). I believe he had been developing the idea since the Physical Graffitti days.

I must admit that album version is absolutely stunning

  • @diaghilev i think its either rain song, or jimmys other song swan song, which is where the kashmir riff came from

  • @zingweav No i think its White Summer Black Mountain Side

  • @diaghilev : If u have heard 'wonderful one' its similar to the starting of that song from "unledded dvd"

  • @diaghilev @diaghilev : If u have heard 'wonderful one' its similar to the starting of that song from "unledded dvd"

  • @diaghilev do u realize that he in tuned to D A D G A D?

  • @chase1959burst

    yeah; thanks!

i figured that, and now i can play it just fine..

    thanks everyone that answered....

    laterz

  • @diaghilev ok i don't like this guy, very overestimated in my mind only for one solo (starway), but here, i shut my big mouth !! super!!

  • @roland17110 one solo ? You had better dig a little deeper

  • @diaghilev Uncle Jimmy has his guitar tuned to (from the low E-string) D-A-D-G-A-D. which was popularised by a guy named Davy Graham who wrote the tune White Summer which you can hear in the first part of this clip. Try tuning your guitar this way and I'm sure you'll learn the song in no time. Oh! And thanks to TheEvilWeed for this clip. I hadn't seen this since since the original Arena program was broadcast in the 80s and I always remember the words. "And then then." :-) Class stuff.

  • @DrewWlliams As far as I'm aware it was invented by Davy Graham - He observed Sitar players on his travels and was the first man to think of trying to imitate a Sitar tuning on an ordinary steel-string guitar.

  • @diaghilev That song is called "Midnight Moonlight." It's by The Firm, which is a band Jimmy Page was in throughout the mid '80s.

  • there is something magical about this

  • jimmy page is a great guitarrist for me one of the best

    of all times

  • how pissed is he?????? I remember watching this 'heavy metal heaven'

  • Damn, I still have my old VHS of this recorded who knows when!

  • jimmy composition skills are still superior

  • What a free spirit! Plays the way he feels at the moment, not what is expected of him.A true hero for me!

  • He's on cocaine.

  • Comment removed

  • there was a time when jimmy wouldn't reveal what tunings he was playing in......this sounds like a minor tuning...................it's nice to see he's mellowed a bit

  • Description is awesome. You gotta be lawyer. :D

  • those chords werent into kashmir they first were the chords to no quarter.

  • @bassgroove21

It's actually the intro of The Firm's "Midnight Moonlight"

  • @TheEvilWeed no actually its was swan song demo form physical graffiti or outtake what ever you would like to call it first which became midnight moonlight firm

  • "White Summer" is where I know them from.

  • do you have the rest of this documentary, i remember watching and taping it, iirc it was on bbc2 around Christmas time, they also showed the docu-movie decline of the western civilization pt 2: the metal years, would be cool to watch this again

  • @SexyYfronts

Yeah, I've still got the whole programme on VHS.

You can see it here on Youtube, on badwolf1973's channel.

  • Well, at least he wasn't sweating all over the place like he does some times when he's "sick". At the end when he's talking I'm just staring at his cigarette the whole time waiting for him to flick it before it falls off! Thanks for this post even with the slight cringe factor involved.

  • Is The Hammer of the Gods ... HAMMERED? Couldn't care less if he is, I love him anyway. Just caught me off guard is all. Too funny

  • Fingers of fury!

  • is it in this documental that led zeppelin's lost performances are shown?? asking case of the last image

  • @HuggyGraves - what follows is 'How Many More Times', from the Led Zeppelin performance recorded on Danish TV in 1969, which is available to view on YouTube from the ledzeppelin channel. There was no other 'lost performances' of Led Zeppelin in the Arena documentary.

  • what albums are these songs on?

  • @coal1987 - White Summer is on the Yardbird's albums 'Little Games' and 'Cumular Limit', Midnight Moonlight is on The Firm's self-titled 1st album, and Kashmir is on Led Zeppelin's 6th album 'Physical Graffiti'

  • To bad he's floating around up in the rafters somewhere. Somewhat lackluster performance. I wonder how much better some of these guys would have been if they weren't high all the time.

  • @planesx12 Oh did I forget to say he's one of the greatest song writers ever and played some terribly awesome licks.

  • Thanks for your sharing !! appreciate that

  • Fuck all these comments, the man is a legend. Any questions..????

  • WMG stands for Warner Music Group. Now I don't know the exact history of there record labels but last i checked they were with Atlantic Records until like Physical Graffiti.

  • @someone180 Yeah, they were with Atlantic Records til about 1973, then started their own label 'Swan Song Records', which has the parent company 'WMG'. And I'm well aware what that stands for, thanks.

  • @TheEvilWeed Yeah haha I'm sure most people know what it stands for, I just felt the need to say it

  • just a tad outta sorts eh? ... it ain't easy when ya' don't play them riffs continuiously... .

  • Awful. He's only good on recordings. He looks stoned too.

  • absolutely beautiful, absolutely blows my mind

    a gift from the gods

  • Altered states of consciousness ... you just end up looking a twat.

Comparisons are a waste of time. But ... can't help thinking Beck makes him look lame.

    On his day wicked though.

  • Someone is STONED

  • looks like his covering himself.. hahaa i hate jimmy page keep those faggots off the stage...

  • Lol, He is so stoned!

  • I hope hes on herion here cause if hes not life isnt fair =(

  • @scottelliotmusic To me it doesnt matter if you get lost on stage as long as you can get found and come back quick enough. I also think the sloppieness adds to his sound. He is a very good player and arranger either way.

  • kashmir is perfect

  • He's so lovely, he plays with such tenderness.

  • TheEvilWeed, thanks for sticking it to the retards that have screwed up youtube.

  • I could watch him play all day.

  • scottelliot seriously if you think thats a mess then you this is just, "my opinion." dont exactly have a correct view on things. Seriously Jimmy Page is one of the best musicians of the 70's hands down. Not the best cause there never is a best just a better then most. Because some of the greatest are different from each other

  • @90zosoman09 Hes a great arranger and writer, but also one of the sloppiest live players of the 70's, or any era given his success, meaning that for the primary guitar player of a massively successful band, he is notoriously sloppy. I have yet to find a video of Zeppelin live that is not over-dubbed where he doesn't make a mistake. Sorry if thats an incorrect view to think a guitar god should be able to play his own music clean on stage.

  • @scottelliottmusic

People tend to confuse sloppy with frantic and soulful...the mistakes tend to make the sound raw and more personal, which is a quality many people like, and came to like with grunge too (most notably Kurt Cobain's style - he was a fan of Page too)

I think most people just throw the term "sloppy" out because so many other people who aren't as good as Page say that, and they just jump on that train

  • @demravager I can get what you are saying somewhat, but sloppy means missed notes, bad notes, off rhythm....I know it can add character but its not how most people play for a reason. And if its so much a part of his style, why are the records immaculate? Why would he record one way and, according to you, intentionally play another? Sounds like BS to me.The only 'train' here is one where Page fans saying his spotty live playing is just a style only certain people can understand.

  • @scottelliottmusic I agree with your insights. I've often wondered why there is such a difference between the recorded material and the live shows. I'm a huge JP fan, but even I have to cringe at some of his live playing. I think he was a brilliant composer and producer and probably a perfectionist in the studio. But once he got on the road I think he was probably wasted every single show - probably due to nerves in the beginning and then just living up to the Rock God hype/mythology later

  • @Pickher u must be kidding...Stairway to heaven live solo from the song remains the same is for me the best live solo ever played by a human being

  • @D0nRidah Um...one its not THAT impressive, and two, its over dubbed. Anyone who needs to overdub the solo from their signature song has some explaining to do

  • @scottelliottmusic Jimmy's "sloppiness" was due to the constant touring, and excess. This wasn't on purpose and no artist was impervious. Even so, Jimmy's sloppy playing is an exaggeration and can be refuted with multiple examples. In addition, Zeppelin was all about dynamics, the band was adamant to varying their performances every night. This variation cannot be considered spotty in any way. ...There were definitely some clunkers in this video, I do declare :p :p

  • @Grubbsy fair enough. Yeah, I know that raw emotion is a huge part of his signature sound, almost like the album is just the version they got during that session. But to be fair, I have heard him mess up in live performances more than any other guitar player at that level. Its just part of who he is i guess. Very off the cuff and if something goes wrong, you can be sure its not your eyes that catch it! He always LOOKS like the greatest guitar player ever.

  • @scottelliottmusic

I see now, it's the standards in which you are comparing. In comparison with other well known guitarists, Jimmy does appear to "mess up" more frequently. However, in comparison, many guitarists don't vary from their original arrangement as frequent nor as much as Jimmy does. Case in point this video. There are no smoke and mirrors in bootlegs mind you and I've heard much more cases of Jimmy not messing up than so.

  • @Grubbsy I guess thats it, he varies from the arrangement, but sometimes more successfully than others. He has problems with timing and fluidity. If you get too all over the place, the core melody and structure that make music (as opposed to sound or noise) get lost, leaving one to question the merits of such straying. I guess he would rather try to and fail than fail to try (I dont intend to say, by any means, that he always fails, he just a bit undisciplined)

  • @scottelliottmusic

Agreed, this is why I love Jimmy's way of playing. Most of the time (from what I've heard) he can pull some great things out of his butt, although not fluid in some cases, It's forgivable. I believe this is my main argument :) "it's forgivable". In my opinion.

  • @Grubbsy well sure, because the end result, like him or not, is that no one else sounds like him. Its part of what makes him original, and to some irreplaceable i suppose. And no one's got his swagger!

  • @scottelliottmusic There is no comparison with Page pre-73 to Page post 73. Get some boots. This guy was AWESOME. In this video he can't even sit still he is so screwed up from H.

  • @fulltruck totally agree. Anything after 73 hes shot. Although I have a boot from 77 hes not too bad in. In this vid I think he just smoked some weed

  • @demravager Angus Young is 'frantic and soulful' whereas with Page, a lot of times its obvious he didn't quite play what he wanted to. Like a run in a solo suddenly stops dead, or Bonham tries to add light rhythm to a solo page piece and drops out because Page HAS no rhythm, or solos seemingly unrelated to the rest of the music. Its things like this that make him sloppy, not because he doesn't play the same every time or he bends differently. He just sounds amateur live many times.

  • I am moved by your reasons for posting this video, I believe even if you are not learning to play the song. I find any man who is worth his weight in "pardon my french" shit can see that this gives a knowledge wether you're a musician are not thank you for the post and the words in the description.
