i dont like her style. she may be skilled, but shes overly sappy, forceful, exaggerated, dramatic, etc. dont want to be trollin but im just saying, i've heard way better
@ModellMeister You state that you have heard way better. Please provide us the names violinists who you have you heard play this piece way better as well as providing us with their discography/videos etc. We will then be able to make comparisons.
@DrMontague Again, this is my opinion, others may think she is the best. What you or any others think about other versions (btw the version I like is by Arthur Grumiaux) not at all affects my feeling towards anything. Good day.
@bellphegor nope, and shes playing like them. Thos sick, DISGUSTING neo romantic people.... Mozart is to be played clean, fresh, crisp and brisk, not sappishly romantic.
@DrMontague you dont have to be there to know. The style of playing in the early ages differed significantly from that of the neo romantic untermensch. There is substantial evidence for this, including many books and manuscripts, and even the style of bow back then.. The bow tip was not in the curved fasion, making the hair weaker but sound strong. The modern bow is deformishly curved, for playing long deep notes. The strings are different too, in order to accomodate disgusting vibrato
@ModellMeister It can be argued that music r played now is being played better due to the advances in technology of instrument manufacture and audio equipment. . Imagine never actually being able to hear yourself play an instrument? We can never know for sure, how each Conductor interpreted the music., remember not everyone conductor would have seen and heard Mozart. What we have today is psychological yearning for wanting to believe everything was better played back then
@DrMontague yes, I accept that technology makes overall music efficient, but instrument manufacture makes instruments lose their charme, especially wooden string instruments.
@ModellMeister I don't think you are gasping my augment. In modern day society we tend to think of classical in the past as somehow being played better i.e As if we are in a some kind of futile attempt striving to replicate it Personally I think Mozart would be astounded by today's musicians and conductors. Again in my opinion many have a psychological yearning for the past to be better.
@DrMontague Yes, of course, people think past is better because its the ORIGINAL. In the past, Mozart was alive and he played it as HE wanted, as HE wrote it. Thats the correct way of playing this piece. But then again, what reason is there for the past NOT to be better than now ?
@ModellMeister Technology allows every musician to listen to themselves play . If you were Paganini you would not have heard what you sounded like when you were not actually playing the violin. In other words you could not stand back and listen to yourself. Further performances can be filmed and recorded allowing us to compare and contrast various interpretations of music. It is strange that you yourself have a notion of how Mozart should be played., yet others will disagree.
@DrMontague yes, some will disagree, but some will also agree. The romantic style of playing originates in the romantic era...hence the name. mozart was very close to baroque, and its only common sense that, they played in that style.
@ModellMei i have heard a few different recordings of this Mozart violin concerto. In my personal opinion this is the one I enjoy above the others. If you listen the likes of Menuhin they sound old and stuffy and very constrained. This interpretation is more fluid. Another example is Kennedy's 4 seasons, I think he murders it. It doesn't have a rustic sound, yet others think it's the best ever. It strange how many believe only Mozart conducted Mozart. There were lots of amateur performances
@DrMontague yes, you are correct. there were lots of amateur performances, like this one. Grumiaux and Szerying are experts of Mozart. Menuhin is also great because of his style
@ModellMeister Again I have heard other versions including Menuhin's. In my personal opinion they sound dated, old and stuffy. Probably like yourself. You simply don't see the big picture. When some one like you thinks of the great composers you get a romantic notion of how the music was performed. You have an imaginary standard of how a piece of music should be played. You have the false belief only Mozart played and conducted his own music. In short you are narrow minded.
@DrMontague maybe they sound old and dated because....they ARE old and dated. Record quality wasnt its best back then. And I do not get a 'romantic notion.' I am accepting of all the people who play Mozart RIGHT. How do you know whats right? Because of simple reasons I already stated. Not only violin but in other mozart pieces in piano, and conductors too. Szeryng, Fischer, Grumiaux, Uchida, Gould, Kremer, Karajan, Levine, Abbado.... I dont think Im narrow minded, just intolerant of butchers
@ModellMeister Again we can never known for certain how the music was performed in Mozart's era. Every conductor has his or her own interpretation. For example i love Debussy's impressionist music. I have heard several highly claimed musicians play his works. I have my favorites. Others might disagree with my choice because it comes down toy subjectivity. .If you are claiming Janine Jansen is a butcher then you need your head sorted. The BBC proms do not deal in crap. You sound jealous.
@DrMontague Do I ? Well I have nothing to be jealous about. Maybe of the great skill of ACTUAL great musicians who play (ok, even if no one knows how mozart is exactly played) following the music (all dynamics, etc that were left from many sources, to elimitate the arrangements by others) someday, I might want to be like them. Janine Jansen maybe a very skilled violinist, and may play great music of other composers, but should stick to Romantic music.
@ModellMeister Would it not be simpler to simply state that this version doesn't appeal to you? Again I have heard this concerto played by several orchestras but they don't appeal to me. In short you have come across a performance of Mozart that appealed to you and you have used that as a frame of reference as to how Mozart should be played. I've heard Jensen and Kennedy play the 4 seasons and neither appeal to me. Yet other people think they are brilliant performances.
@DrMontague If you dont like Jensen's 4 seasons then you are agreeing with me, Vivaldi style is closer to mozart than Brahms or Tchaikovsky style, and if shes bad at playing the earlier style then chances are her mozart isnt very accurate. Now you're probably going to say no one knows how Vivaldi played, and thats not necessarily true. Yes, it is simpler to state it doesnt appeal to me. Im just explaining WHY it doesnt.
@ModellMeister Then your argument would have to apply to Kennedy's 4 seasons as his interpretation doesn't appeal to me at all.,yet it has critical acclaim. However I don't argue that his interpretation is wrong and that he should avoid playing Vivaldi, I can only state that Kennedy's and Jansen interpretations don't appeal to me. In my opinion their playing is too refined when they play this piece and lacks rustic charm. yet other people love their versions. It comes down to subjectivity.
@ModellMeister Further although I don't care much for Kennedy's or Jansen's version of the four seasons I find their playing of Bach appealing. e.g. search youtube for Jansen' playing Bach Sonata 1 for unaccompanied violin. I love it you might hate it.
I just heard this Mozart Violin Concerto #5 performed by Anne Sophie Mutter w/ NY philharmonic here @ the Lincoln Center, and let me tell you I was absolutely blown away... time seem to stood still in there throughout this whole movement it was so riveting. Honestly& surprisingly I have to say it was much better performed than this one by Janine Jansen. I say surprisingly because I usually don't like the way Anne Sophie Mutter plays Mozart, but today it was special, she played it more elegantly.
@meatpie29 Nonsense. I like Mozart but i don't like every piece of music he wrote. I love Debussy's impressionistic music but I don't like everything he wrote. I like Bach but I don't like everything he wrote.. Don't be so closed minded.
@DrMontague I agree. I like Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Handel, Shubert, Elgar, Beethoven...just not every piece they wrote. I do love this piece though.
@unitednerdsbeproud I think it's because studio versions does not have the spirit of the audience with them. I also think that the youth is not held back by convention. It has a more open, more fluid interpretation which seems to suit this piece of music. In other words it's not all note on.
I agree! Playing for a studio is not the same as playing for an audience. There's more spirit and more emotion being surrounded people than recording equipment. I tend to fine the recordings are more 'perfect' but the imperfections are sometimes what makes them beautiful.
Que excelente combinación!!! Es una excelente interprete de mozart, brahms y vivaldi, tiene una Excelente técnica y una prolijidad esencial para tocar bien mozart...Y a todo eso sumémosle que es hermosa!!!
This is the same rhythm (probably not coincidentally) as the stereotyped chant of marching soldiers: "Left ... left ... left right left." (It should not be imagined, however, that the tempo is necessarily plodding: the Janissaries conjured up in Mozart's Fifth Violin Concerto, for instance, would be making considerable headway following the tempo of most performances.)
there is a story line in this movement. I always see an underwater scene; a naughty fish who goes to discover the sea (in spite of disagreement of all other fish) and after all the deadly adventures comes back home safe and sound.. :P
it's so vivid. you can imagine the details according to every part as the music develops
the first movement i liked - the second movement was dull and not emotional enough for me - the third movement the tempo was all over the place, i thought ahkenasi was always guilty of this in his performances as a piano soloist which i did not find convincing either, please forgive me
You have a right to express your opinion. I allow any comments here as long as they are not written to deliberately hurt or insult the performers, and are intelligent criticism.
i'm neither hot bloded nor heterosexual, but that doesnt even sound like music from a german classisit composer, perhaphs is not the soloist fault, i blame the director, he is a great musician but a pianist after all, she is pretty and her bow and left hand look good but its painful on the back to play standing like she does, besides it looks bad
