I love The Strokes...I listened to them before I even became a musician (and I mean musician jazz ensemble funk fusion music university not I'm in a band musician) but why are they at a jazz festival?
I can't help but feel like you didn't answer my question at all and I was just informing that I have a big knowledge in jazz and that the strokes being at the montreal jazz festival baffles me. So unless you have a real answer then answer if you're gonna be a dick then take your dick and fuck yourself up the ass with it.
Answer: Big festivals, like The Montreaux Jazz Festival, are more concerned with popular names than real jazz musicians. They have the Strokes there because they know that it will cause tons of ticket sales, bringing in more money.
As for your last little statement there: it sucked.
I agree, of course. But, c'mon, The Strokes on a jazz festival? Even if they are a great rock band, they have absolutely nothing in common with jazz. Nothing.
Al Jarreau brings in money, so does Keith Jarret, John McLaughlin and Wynton Marsalis. All the big names in jazz do and one would think if Montreal(?) jazz fest can bring in Strokes, they have the money for the afore-mentioned jazz players.
I like what you said. A jazz festival should not be headlining with The Strokes, but the way things are going, attracting a younger crowd with mediocre-to-good bands brings in more money than great jazz musicians that only jazz enthusiasts or the well musically-cultured will know of. The purpose of this 'jazz' festival is purely profit. Organized concerts with a goal of showcasing jazz are usually smaller and less heard of...those are the ones you really want to look for.
The Montreux Jazz Festival expanded into more than displaying solely jazz musicians since the '60s. It's not that odd if you know the history of the venue.
Thanks for the info! Also, thanks for responding to my comment referring to the "strokes UBIK" video! I really need The Strokes, and by the looks of it...well I guess it probably goes the same for you! I guess we're "The stroke-aholics!! Sex,Drugs, and The strokes!
These guys are kings. Original sound, AMAZING vocals, great lyrics. And i love them live. It's almost hte same musical sounds, with slight variations, but more intense vocals and then there's the bands intensity. Don't you just love the lead singers performance!?!?
