@Superbook4Eva So glad to hear that Annette continues to have fans :-)
Your are correct..... Paul wrote "Puppy Love" with Annette in mind in 1960
However "Tall Paul" was by Richard and Robert Sherman. They'd already had a hit with "You're Sixteen" for Johnny Burnett when they were hired by Walt Disney in1958 to write for Annette. Walt liked their work so much that he kept them on the payroll. In 1965 they won an Oscar for a film soundtrack they wrote for Disney. The film was Mary Poppins
This song was originally recorded on the Disneyland Record label! Annette charted on BillBoard's Hot 100 List 1/5/59, peaking at no.7 & staying on the chart for 15 weeks! Everytime I did "Classic Sat. Nite" over the air-waves, this was my most requested song!
oooooh the wild fantasies this young lady inspried in all american red blooded boys of the 50's and 60's !! probably more then a few dirty old men as well, like I am now!
This was written by the Sherman Brothers who wrote all of the music for Disney and got the academy award for "Mary Poppins." It didn't have anything to do with Paul Anka. It's so sad that she has MS.
@jhwink i believe it was about paul newman...at the time...annette had a big crush on him....from what i heard...then again i could just be making this up...
yeah i knew that they were "dating" i was given the album as a christmas gift, i went to see the mouseketeers when they came to sydney in , i think, 1956?i sat behind jimmy and bobbie, what they were doing in the audience , who knows, but being 9, i thought karen and cubby were my age, lol, and when karen came out she had make up on, and was a teenager. but i still loved them, even more, if that was possible, god, they were good days, thanks for replying
I was in the ninth grade when this soared up the charts. I remember cringing for a particular boy in my World Civilization class who was named Paul. He was painfully introverted and (in the ninth grade) rather short. There was a self-involved girl in this class who absolutely delighted in sarcastically singing this song's refrain whenever Paul shyly drifted into class. She always succeeded in getting some of the stuck-up kids to imitate her. The next year Paul was taller than all of them.
He is both...okay? He is Opie and Richie from Happy Days. Ron Howard is both of them. He played Opie when he was a little boy and Richie when he was a teen.
i wanna go to malt shop and listen this music in the jukebox, only my dreams fuckkkkkk you can believe it?????

It's total bubblegum, but it's a pretty tasty flavor. :) Love the spoken-word part.
Didn't Paul Anka write "Puppy Love" about his feelings for Annette?

@Superbook4Eva
Really?? I was thinking the spoken part was the least appealing part.

Paul wouldn't have had to be very tall to her, I heard she's pretty short. :)

The funny thing about Annette Funicello recordings is that they cram in so much in a matter of minutes (most being under 3 minutes).

This may in fact been lyrics I wrote as a child trying to gain popularity and kindness back then. In reverse I was so small . . .
