  • does the high crotch hurt the Nuts? Or do you guys where cups?

  • once you establish the right hand gable grip both your hands together keeping the knee in tight and your right wrist on the back of the knee joint, but remember to keep your elbows in tight to your body as to not get under hooked. pop back up to your feet and pinch his ankle with with both your knees... you are now in the proper position for a single leg take down, there are various ways to finish from here either with a knee tap, single drive, single with a lift, turning the corner..etc :)

  • that isnt a single shot. he's doing a high crotch shot.

  • At 3:14 the guy is gonna be holding on to you and sprawling way harder out what our coach showed us was to do the same thing with leg leg but bend it inwards and drive it back. That will put him on his back. and for single legs you always shoot and stay low.

  • ive looked through comments for an attempt to understand the head on the outside. it is just as easy to set up a double or a high crotch with the head on the inside like it should be, not to mention you have so much more a solid position. and just dropping your level instead of doing a real shot wont take down anybody with any hips whatsoever. then again, thats not really something you learn by sitting and watching youtube vids.

  • If you really want some lessons on the single leg offense and defense, you could just watch the videos under ISUwrestling taught by Cael Sanderson(undefeated college wrestler).

  • If he gets caught in a guillotine, he can get out by stacking his opponent, driving his shoulder and weight into him to relieve the pressure. and from there he can push against the opponents throat or jaw with his arm while either breaking the guys grip or work to pass him... Most guys won't pull a guillotine unless it's a double leg, Guillotines from the half guard aren't effective.

  • Hey i was wondering in the next video if you could demonstrate some Throws. Like headthrows and fireman carrie.

  • no offense but this isnt the most educational video when it comes to wrestling

  • Love this new Wrestling 101 series wish i would have had both a good coach that could explain and answer practical questions. Example the greco grip was useless after that good sprawl, my coach would have just told us we F-ed it up and had to get stronger and cut weight.

  • Make more wrestling videos I don't like jiu jitsu

  • muy bueno master.

  • any chance of an mma 101 series?

  • great like always

  • Thanks for putting these out there, they are pretty good

  • This is hard to follow but i'm learning what to do. I wish i lived in America so i could learn first hand, but this is still helpful

  • "Superman" HA!

Anyway, I don't like that my head would be against his lattimus dorsi. Guillotines are reflexive.

  • Great vid!

  • what's the point , get a decent D! college wrestler who has hadd one a little BJJ or MMA, u guys are missing the boat on this one, sure he might have wrestled but there are a thousand guys better.

  • why is he single legging with the head on the outside? bjj variation? in high school wrestling, i was told head on the outside is incorrect, though some olympic level wrestlers (mark schultz) do it. As a coach, i tell my wrestlers: head on the inside.

I'm very loyal to submissions 101, and i honestly want to know why nick shows this variation. i tried to see how many people advocate this type of shot. I have seen none on youtube. hundreds of other wrestlers, coaches, camps say inside.

  • @abcdenoerrors

You can't strike the head or wrench the neck in wrestling; head on the inside makes your head a target for all sorts of punishment. This vid seems to be a vid on how to use wrestling techniques as the basis for the takedown game for any kind of combat sport, not just wrestling.

  • @OneAngryAsian

nice try, but not really what i was looking for. thanks regardless for the answer, though your logic is fallible. shooting for a takedown opens up the head for "all sorts of punishment", regardless of head inside or out

in terms of grappling, either single leg is susceptible to attacks: rolling omaplata, crucifix, sitting kneebar, switch, fly triangle

if done properly, punching shouldnt be a worry. fighterjust needs to keep motion

and plenty of fighters do head on the inside

  • @abcdenoerrors Nick does the head on the inside as well and he realizes that many people will instantly say guillotine and such. He was showing this style as a set up for a double or high crotch.

  • @Submissions101 Thing is that is something and both have stuff to do my issue with head on outside is its going to get ripped off. Then as you turn to underhook and crossface then you redirect throw him to his back. So im crossfacing and then redirect throwing him. He will not turn the corner all from how the shot was taken.

I need to also say I'm very loyal to submissions 101, and Ari im your friend but as always im very proud your working and doing wrestling on here thanks bud!

  • @Submissions101 but he goes on to say to hit "running the pipe" from there. that is incorrect instruction. I do however love to hit high crotch, fireman and doubles from this position, so with that i agree

  • @abcdenoerrors I was saying same thing head on outside, never shot for single that is a turning double. The next thing is droping to his knee and not drop steping

  • @abcdenoerrors i think it dont raelly matter my wrestling coaches say the same thing but i do it on the outside all the time so it dont really matter as long as he is off balance

  • @abcdenoerrors I agree... besides if you leave your head in the outside can't you get caught in a guillotine faster?

  • @abcdenoerrors When going for a single leg head should always be on the inside. When going for a double leg, head should be on the outside because you use it to push to the way you want them to go. thats what i was trained.

  • @abcdenoerrors i think its just more of a freestyle variation because i train freestyle mma type wrestling and my head is always on the outside

  • @chetownboy Thing is with your head on outside I will crossface you so hard and that leads to 6 or so throws and then your getting pinned or if your grappling you will end up in a nice arm bar or few other finish moves from crossbody. This is comming from 37 year wrestler, 20 years jui-jitsu, 14 years of judo, & 24 years of Hapkido.

  • @abcdenoerrors

yeah the other knee should be down too. if you get in that deep its not even a single anymore its a double leg or a high crotch.

  • @abcdenoerrors I've always done my single legs from the outside because I'm using it in MMA, inside loves receiving knees more then the outside and I'm more worried about those then a guillotine, and love switching to the double. different styles, different backgrounds and uses/lead ups, as explained below :)

  • @abcdenoerrors Inside singles are common in wrestling. Some coaches only teach to circle for outside singles or shoot straight in for doubles, but outside singles can be tough to finish, and some wrestlers block your lead hand from reaching your back leg on doubles. Options off inside singles include switch to a double, high crotch lift, crackdown, and switch to outside single / take the back. In submission wrestling, they might expose you to the crucifix and guillotines (just like doubles).

  • great videos Ari...Thanks nick

  • i don't think your head should be on the outside

  • this is good shit, i've always thought my takedowns wasn't up to scratch, but seeing this i'm going to correct a lot of my errors.

  • Will these moves work on the street? Assuming your opponent doesn't have a weapon.

  • @FrankGarrett316 You'd blow your knee out by landing full force on a concrete street or hard surface by attempting this. I wouldn't use this on the street in a self defense situation. The First Leg take downs are ok to do, however not my choice. I'm a Judoka and would much rather throw with an Uchi Mata,Osoto Gari Or Uchi Gari. Before the throws I would've palm striked full force to the nose, or spear hand to the eye, shin kicked to the groin & pop to the ears.

  • @chavamma You are correct. This is for SPORT and mat work. Judo or leg trips are a much better option.

  • @Submissions101 Thanks, I'm a Shodan in Combat Judo but also cross train & love to get in the cage which is why I subed. Great tips on the channel Love the vids Ari Keep up the great work.

  • @chavamma your palm strike loses to my gun 10 out of 10 times

  • @chavamma Your knee doesn't have to hit the ground when you shoot. Of course that is the way that he is doing it in the video and it gives you more leverage to finish your takedown. But nonetheless wrestling takedowns are effective on the street as long as you aren't driving your knee into the pavement like you can on a mat.

  • @chavamma the greeks didnt mind using it

didnt they fight on like pavement?

  • @lagook Then do it, don't have to reply to me and ask me to attempt a takedown on your knee. I'm a Judoka and Judo is my fighting Style I stick to what works. -Kind Regards- ChavaMMA

  • @chavamma Judo fucking sucks. You did a throw, OK, now what are you going to do?

  • @TGUNZ562 submit him, or keep throwing until he gets a concussion =D

  • @DannySMalone Judo is wack, mayne. Ken Shamrock/Chris Lenniger, 'nuff said.

  • @TGUNZ562 most people who don't know how to fall safely and break falls will certainly hurt themselves on concrete... or it will certainly discourage them to attack you again.

  • @waldomarek don't waste your time with TGUNZ562, his very poor very limited brain does not let him function as a whole. He's blinded by ignorance. He's one of those jerk type of people with an "ego" due to their low self-esteem who wears Tap Out & Think his a "Fighter" by watching online vids. Stay strong when trying to have an educated argument with Lowlifes like TGUNZ562. -Kind Regards- ChavaMMA

  • @waldomarek Very True Excelent explanation, however it's useless trying to have an educated argument with @TGUNZ562 his very poor very limited brain does not let him function as a whole. He's blinded by ignorance. He's a jerk with an "ego" due to his low self-esteem. Who wears Tap Out & Think his a "Fighter" by watching online vids. Stay strong when trying to have an educated argument with Lowlifes like TGUNZ562. -Kind Regards-ChavaMMA

  • @TGUNZ562 You truly are ignorant, and not afraid to advertise it. Respect! 'You did a throw, and your opponent has landed on his neck on concrete. What are you going to do?' Erm, walk away, call an ambulance etc? Oh, and I guess if he's still ok after that you could always choke him out, or put some un-natural stresses on his joints.

  • @edsheadsaid Catch owns Judo... Judokas stay getting there asses kicked.

  • @TGUNZ562 if the first throw doesn't stop your oponent, your options are kic him while he's down, ground and pound, improve position, submission moves like chokes and joint manipulation or you can let him up and throw him again.

That's if the first throw doesn't end the fight. If it's on a hard surface like concrete it probably will, especially if your opponent doesn't know how to break fall.

  • @riopieboy But, all of that shit you just said to do after the throw is not Judo.

  • @TGUNZ562 After reading your other comments I have realised that you are not even considering or reasonably arguing any points. Just dogmatically cussing out judo because you support wrestling. As if they were in competition or something.

They are both valid martial arts. Watch some mma. Judo trips and throws are just as prevalent as wrestling take downs.

Ignorance is not your fault. Arrogance is.

The mind is like an umbrella, it functions best when open.

  • @riopieboy LMMFAO @ "Judo trips and throws are just as prevalent as wrestling take downs." GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE! How many wreslters have been champ and how many Judokas have been champ? 'Nuff said.

  • @TGUNZ562 Glad to see you are "LAUGHING MY MY FUCKING ASS OFF".

The current middle weight champ of the UFC trains capoiera. The Welter Weight champ trains kyokushin Karate. You take what you can from each martial art. It's called mixed martial arts for a reason. Judo and wrestling borrow moves from each other.

You're watching JJ guys learn wrestling in this vid. They show moves from plenty of grappling arts.

Your as bad as the BJJ guys who look down on 10thPJJ.

Enjoy your wrestling and your box

  • Dude there is no point in arguing with @TGUNZ562 he's full of it! From his comments& way of expressing himself I can assume he has no knowledge of any martial art what so ever. He just cusses out Judo, I'm a NiDan In Combat Judo. Judo is my way of life I respect all martial arts there is no good or bad martial art only bad martial artist. He said his "muay thai" & wrestling would "rape me" I invited him to any of my 3 dojos in Texas to come and train and turned down. Stay Strong & Kind Regards.

  • @TGUNZ562 Or maybe judokas just are not into MMA...?

  • @chavamma actually im a black belt in japanese jujistu also

    im not disagreeing with you

im jsut mentioning the fact that the greeks used to do it

  • @chavamma correct. so in street, i wouldn't do the knee drop for full force, just get the single or double, it would still def work for the street people

  • @ukuledoj Yeah Defintely, that's what I've mentioned that the first few takedowns would work, however some subscribers must really like submissions101 that they find the need to reply to my post and trash me. Due to the fact that Ari replied to me and this gets them jealous... I dont know why that's happening my post was at somebodyelse and I guess it made good sense worthy of Ari's approving. And yes they're great takedowns for self defense, however I'll stick with Judo.-Kind Regards-

  • @chavamma Im a Judoka as well and I used to use single leg takedowns but traditional Judo schools (at least in my dojo here in Tokyo) look down on single and doubles as not being clean Judo. I love Judo and I consider it a way of life but you have to admit that a lot of these attitudes suck. That is why I left the Kodokan and now I practice Kosen Judo (ne waza) exclusively which is where BJJ came from. If you are able to practice it locally give it a shot.

  • @Jackthemeat Well my Dan grade is in Ju-Te Ryu Combat Judo. Ju-Te Ryu is an eclectic system incorporating elements and techniques derived from Judo/Jujutsu,Taekwon-Do, military combative systems, police defensive tactics, Aikido, boxing, Filipino stick fighting and Muay Thai. It is designed solely for self-defense purposes and has no sporting objective. However I Cross train and the self defense base makes a huge difference In the Cage! -Kind Regards- ChavaMMA

  • @Jackthemeat @Jackthemeat Kodokan Judo's changed & evolved to sport. Ever since Jigoro's death, may he rest in peace. This is why the Gracies were victorious vs many Judokas. Many emphasized in the sport aspect, & not the Do,happens when you compete alot.BJJ's the Ne Waza of Judo. Masahiko Kimura's victory over Helio Gracie proves this. Thanks for the tip, I roll @ the Gracie JJ academy in torrance and in all honesty havn't learned anything that I didn't know.

  • @chavamma my thing is non go farther back from who was the teacher of Jigoro, my issue and way look at this The founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba who was his master? The founder of Hapkido Choi Yong-Sool, it was Master Takeda Sōkaku if look back and see all the info you find how everything comes together. I also trained at JJ academy in Torrance for a time and seemed they would not teach very many things since more money issue to some people.

  • @MasterHatfield I've respect The Gracies and have learned alot from them, My comment was honest yes I've learned new things from them as far as humor, technique tips, respect and BJJ. However I meant to say that yes I did learn but it was nothing new to me. Or anything that I hadn't seen in Combat Judo. As far as the money issue?? you lost me there. -Kind Regards- ChavaMMA

  • @chavamma no disrepect but I trained through Pedro Sauer when went to Torrance just very simple movements and like 2 moves over few weeks and just seemed they was streaching it out. The thing was I know that Pedro got in an issue since he was showing to many things as in alot of things and they would get on him for giving too much info.

  • @chavamma I'm a judoka, and your comment is embarrassing me by proxy.

  • @chavamma in a self defense situation i would just grab him and pull guard. and work my bjj. xD

  • @TimisaWhiteMan That's Great man, if you're aggressor has no knowledge of self defense whatsoever. I in your place wouldn't go to the ground I'd avoid it as much as possible why? 1) you don't know if he's carrying a knife or a weapon & if so. him no top of you is not a great idea 2.) pulling guard on the street takes much more than on the mats. I would stunn him, throw and leave the scene. Distance is also self defense.

  • Good vid I really struggle with my wrestling I think that is like my biggest problem.

  • the best

  • more single leg options please!

  • this is pretty good

  • coooooooool mooooooore!!!

  • Is there going to be Double Leg takedown vids? As always you guys rock!

  • sweet first view haha love the wrestling vids guys
