We urge you to come out to the zoo and look at our elephants for yourself. You will see relaxed, healthy animals enjoying their large exhibits with full sized pools, natural terrain, and a carefully planned enrichment program that enables them to be stimulated and active. We are very proud of our elephant program and the opportunities that it presents for countless people to learn and be inspired by these amazing pachyderms. We hope you will be too.
Zoo Miami has been voted one of the top zoos in the country for housing elephants on large, open-air exhibits with natural terrain and in social groups. We are presently home to the oldest and one of the largest Asian bull elephants in the country. Dalip, a 45 year old male arrived at the old Crandon Park Zoo in the 1960’s and has grown into one of the most magnificent elephants anyone has ever seen while also becoming a father and maintaining relationships with females.
Poor elephants...Maude could have been moved to a Sanctuary where she would roam free with a whole herd of other elephants and explore acres of natural habitat, plants, forests, lakes, and ponds...the closest thing captive elephants have to life in the wild. Instead she's cooped up in a zoo.
Jojo, we look forward to seeing you at Zoo Miami. Maude is so much fun to watch. She is really enjoying her new habitat and her new friends Dahlip and Nelly.
