  • if you dont want to repair the wheel yourself go to rimspec.com for wheel repair or rim repair service

  • never seen alloy glow? it usually just melts.

  • thx mate.

  • Don't be a fricking Compton savage!!!!! Buy a new fucking wheel or get it Tig welded!!!! On second thought, get a new wheel! A crack like that with a weld will only crack again you retard!!!! Safety is first!!!! Get a new wheel kneegrow!!!!!

  • @ColtDeltaElite10mm Your wheels / tires are the MOST important thing for safety on your car.

  • you need to warm up all the rim so there are no inner presures and no you do not repair a rim like this u use a tig machine and tig-weld it

  • Sorry. We wont repair wheels that have damage extending into the area where the tire bead seats. Too much risk for such little reward. Your life is worth more than the cost of a rim. But you are right in saying that welding a lip is far more durable than filler. Be safe

  • Good wheel shops weld damage and only use bondo in the refinishing process for minor nicks. If you weld a wheel it has to be done by a certified welder or you can be held liable for injury. The shop i work at wont repair wheels that have gouges be

  • or you can park 12inches from i curb how your so-post 2

  • Where is a video for mild curb rash? I'm not dumb enough to take out huge chunks...

  • your a badass

  • Warning! it's not worth it to repair the wheel. If you don't do it right, you can weaken the metal and you could have a blow out on the highway. You can wreck your car and loose everything to save a few bucks.

  • Aluminum wont glow when hot in direct light, It will discolor when it gets so hot that I becomes brittle upon cooling. This is what I mean by saying someone can get into some serious trouble doing this at home. I fabricate in aluminum all day long at work. This metal is HIGHLY UNFORGIVING. You need to warn viewers about this.

  • I can see a noob doing some serious damage by destroying the wheels temper. Not good.

  • um im a welder and you DONT BRAZE WITH TUNGSTEN RODS YOU TIG WITH THEM!!! DUMBASS

  • @MrNecrokiller he didnt say it was tungsten, i weld also but this to the welding world would be a filler rod. in this case it is some aluminum mix

  • @fatqwert200 well they looked like a tungsten rod form that video i really couldnt tell i didnt have me glasses on but their is a difference between tig rods and filler rods but this video is showing people how to fix cracked rims which if you have a cracked aluminum alloy rim its should be replaced not repaired not everyone understands metallurgy enough and are certified in the field to fix their own rims.

  • I am looking to get a set of Ford Focus SVT wheels from someone for $100, he has informed me that 3 of them are in perfect condition (his son swapped them out for custom wheels) but one has some damage on the inside of the wheel, from driving over a bridge that has a bad lowering mechanism (the county is out there working on it once a damn month) so he said it has a small dent inside it... is that repairable or should I just scrap that one and try to get a replacement?

  • Hey I just bought some used rims today, and they seemed alright until I got home and noticed a VERY slight wobble when it's rolled on the carpet. Theres no tire on it. Theres no visible dammage, and you can't feel there the damage is either. Can I still use them without getting them repaired?

  • @lolley1100 It is likely bent, you can use it if it holds air, but it is going to vibrate like crazy. You can usually get a bent wheel repaired locally for 100-150 dollars. Best of luck.

  • @91ludesit Nah, it was just the carpet i rolled it on that made them look like they were wobbly i guess...I got wheels on them 4 days ago and had them at 145 mph with no problems.

    Thanks for the info anyway.

  • Remember to always keep your safety glasses on your head while grinding. You don't want your hair to get hurt.

  • 5zigens?

  • @Fox1991 Yes an original set of FN01R-C's, not that new hot version.

  • Comment removed

  • @allaluminium What? I think some punctuation would help here, that was very hard to understand.

  • @allaluminium hahaha, you seem really dumb, i wouldn't trust you.

  • What did you drag through the bead of technoweld?

  • @dereklacy in the box there is a stainless steel abrader, you drag that through the bead of technoweld to break the surface tension and ensure the bond with the material.

  • I'll do it for $50.....No weld, no bondo no filler at all and if you can tell me where the damage was after I'm done it's free. The job above would go alot faster with one change. (an angle grinder and sctoch brite sanding disc) it wont digg into the metal or jump like a dremal......Not takin anything away from this guy, just trying to make it easier for anyone trying to do this at home.

  • @ROUGH27 Thanks for the suggestions, I was doing this with what I had on hand to avoid spending more money.

  • @ROUGH27 $50 dollars really per rim or set of four? I may just take you up on that offer!

  • does anyone know if the technoweld can be polished to blend with a polished lip?

  • @eclipz I doubt that it will polish to the same color, but you can try.

  • Does the repair material have the ability to polish out for polished wheels? I know that some shops do a weld process to repair wheels, but I'm not sure of the proper materials.

  • you prob already mentioned it, but could the repair be powder coated afterwards? Concerned about the baking process for the powder coat paint.

  • @hm008vaj

Good question! Yes they can be powdercoated, that is the whole reason I did it this way. In fact one of them was powdercoated a second time, and they have held up for 2 years now. I think the fix was well worth the money and time I invested.

  • @91ludesit from expirience dont powder coat a heat treated wheel their isnt alot of them on the market yet its new but powder coating a heat treated wheel will make it 10 times as brittle as a standard wheel so check with your wheel manufacturer first

  • @BADBLOOD713 Good to know, this process would also not work on a heat treated wheel. It would significantly weaken it as well.

  • this guy cant afford a stick welder

  • dude you are the best!!!

  • You know that J B weld works the same way and its 4 dollars at walmart. you just have to wait for it to cure then sand then re do it one more time

  • fyi aluminum does not glow orange...

  • DUDE,PLEASE SELL ME THOSE WHEELS,seriosly i want them for my e36! pm me asap if you will sell them

  • @iloveloosey101

I will never part with them unless I end up totaling the car. Thanks for the interest though!

  • Just call a real shop try this Performance Wheel Repair and no need to buy nothing just under $100 for all the job.

  • @801aco Yea but they will charge you 100+ per wheel. I did all for wheels for an investment of just under 60 dollars.

  • This is a really helpful video for those who have the time but don't want to waste hundreds of dollars on curb rashes, thanks for a great vid!

  • do you want to grind the damaged area smooth or leave it rough before "fixing" it?

  • @ifeeltheperks You want it smooth and even with the rest of the lip surface.

  • can buy the portable butane torch used in this video here../cgi.ebay.in/Portable-Butane-Torch-1Xcan-butane-/330463609798?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing your skills.

  • those look perfectly fine to me but then again i drift so anything that works looks good haha some sick ass 5zigens nothin like some fn's ftw!

  • hey dumb ass u r using the wrong dremel tip

  • @chezbalz Instead of showing everybody your ignorance and poor grammar skills, you could have made the proper recommendation. Oh wait trolls have nothing but ignorance.

  • If you heat aluminium it changes properties of metal,.ie strength. Not a good idea if you don't know the correct temperature resistance of the metal.

  • @Mega251181 Yea I suppose, but they've been on for over a year and through 2 sets of tires. Potholes, and my extremely stiff suspension without issue.

  • @91ludesit mmmhhhmmm

  • nice

  • whats the point of fixing them when ur just scratching them on the concrete ?

    intresting video tho

  • @tykx104

Not sure I understand what you mean? I fixed the curb marks and had them powder coated, they looked good as new.

  • @91ludesit he means that your getting dust on the rims and that your fixing them on the floor without a cloth or anything under it

  • @azntioy

Ah I see, well it was the backside, which you won't see anyway. Once they were sand blasted the minor scratches in the paint weren't noticeable since it was gone LOL.

  • you don't have this problem if you don't curb the rims, save yourself money and look were you are driving

  • where did you get the techno weld kit and how much was it

  • Do you have a 91 Prelude si turbo?

  • @MaddDogg81 A long long time ago, in a galaxy far away.

  • what if you have polished lipped rims? won' t the place where you bonded be different than the rest of the original paint. it's a good job but if you are painting them afterwards but for polishing what is the scenario?

  • @rneoman I would suggest letting a professional look at a polished lip, usually in that case they grind the marks out, and then grind the lip all the way around to match.

  • thank you for the vid, some day im this is gonna help me.

  • or you can send it off and have it done by professionals for 135

  • You could also have the sense of acomplishment of doing it yourself for under 60. Also bet thats 135 per wheel, I did 3 wheels for the cost of the techno-weld and the torch.

  • and did you refinish the wheel yourself?

  • @lemonzdrums

No, I had them all powdercoated which ended up costing around 60 a wheel. To have

"the professionals" fix and refinish locally would have cost me 220 a wheel. I think I saved plenty this way.

  • @91ludesit they are a rip off then i my cost is 80 to have it done and it takes them i have my wheel back in one business day

  • @lemonzdrums where lol what webiste?

  • @lemonzdrums no

  • a bet the balance is not right...well, the damage wasn't that bad, i did some serious damage to my rim tonight.

  • After over a year they are still holding up great, and when I recently got new tires 3 of the 4 wheels took no weights.

  • you can also just use a orbital sander with 320 grit and grind the lip of the entire rim, then paint. Saves you the $35 on gas and whatever on the brasing. You can also sand all wheels including steel and magnesium

  • I had a chunk missing on one of these wheels, and I wanted to fill the curb marks not sand them out.

  • I can see a noob doing this and burning his parents house down.

  • I take no responsibility for misuse of a torch, and recommend working outside.

  • @killersushi99 bahahahaha

  • hy first sorry for my bad english ... i want to know if it possible to give the right (angle) to my mag becauz i bought this rims from a guy y know but he he have do a lot of hand brake with and they are not bent but jost / can i do something or put it in garbage??

    plz respond

  • I am not sure I fully understand the question, but the material I use here will not bond to mag wheels. You can use a traditional welder for mag wheels, and then grind them back to shape the same way.

  • what if your rims are not aluminum?

mine have graphite and something els but its not aluminum ( they feel like stones and there heavy as fuck) but would this type of thing still work. i would paint them so not matching is not a problem thanks

  • This will work on most metal alloys. However it might not work on your wheels. On the same page that technoweld is available from my link you will find a product called pyro putty. That is like epoxy on steroids and cures harder than steel. It will bond to anything and you can grind it to shape.

    GOOD LUCK!

  • Very informative vid. Thank you.

  • man.. stuff is so cheap in america!! good vid!!

  • you should upgrade to the TS8000 cuz it really does get the job done 30% faster

  • Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed it.

  • Very informative video. Great job. Wish the camera was able to get a close up on the repair

  • This was done with the video camera on my cell phone so the quality and zoom were limited.

  • are those 5zigen fn01r-c? i have a bent one.

  • They are, you can probably find a shop locally that will get your bend out with a press. Luckily mine were not bent.

  • Future CEO of Techno-Weld...That was awsome...

  • Nice wheels, great DIY!

  • Thanks, I would have just let them go but they are no longer in production.

  • You are Legend.
