i got a doubt, this thing supports a max of 8gb of memory, so it is supposed to use 4 x 2gb dimms, but what if i have 2 dimms of 4 gb each. will it work? luckily they are 1333mhz modules, but if i want 1600mhz, and since 1600+ needs to be OC, do i need any special brand/model memory? and what would happen if i populate with 4 x 4gb dimms with a total of 16gb???

Quad gigabit LAN, 10USB's just on the back of the MB, quad CF, bigger southbridge cooling block.

But I'm happy with it, about 31-34C on the MB temps, GPU (Sapphire 5770 New Edition) 31C idle.

CPU temp - 13-19C idle, with a cheap Foxconn stock-like (but v. big) cooler.

But, yeh, I prefer the Intel chipsets, but everyone has their opinion I guess :)

Not bad too to have the Linux built in the board in case you loose your OS for some reason. Great recovery tool. And the 2600 FSB rules for gameplay. You really see the difference. Especially during games with intense water. Yes water. The hardest graphic item to render in any system ever made.

Asus p5q-e, i run one with an e8400@3.6 on standard cooling, 4gb ram and an xfx 4870, insane setup, so i sure a 4890 would be like, WOW! i can run crysis very vry well, also, with my 4870's fan on 100% and with my case fans on the lowest setting it overclocks with catalyst very, very well 790Mhz clock........Yeh Boy! haha =D

Well, the HD 5850's and 5870's just came out, but the 4890 is still a very high performing card, so... the choice is yours. The HD 5850 and 5870 are both very high end cards, and the HD 4890 is still up there in performance.

Do not buy an ASUS Striker, Maximus, Rampage, or Crosshair MOBO. All versions of these motherboards are plagued by the dreaded CPU INIT error. Even the RMA's will come back with these errors. Do yourself a favor, save your money and get an EVGA, XFX, or MSI motherboard. They'll work, and you'll make it to the post. The ASUS boards won't post because of several problems from CMOS, voltage settings for RAM, not having a PS2 keyboard is even a problem with these friggen boards. LAME.

yes youll need a very good cooling sink or fan to get that, id recomend going for water cooling.

you really want the best quality water blocks and tubing, if you want a really want great performance out of water cooling go for a really good quality pump id spend the most on the pump, as for the tubing if you buy a low quality cheap brand run the water cooling system for about a week outside your system to make sure its not leaking. just some advise if you wanted it

currently have one cpu waterblock, but planning on getting northbridge and mosfet blocks (i heard that southbridge cooling isnt really needed for intel processors, dunno why) and possibly a block for my 4870

well the pump should do the job alright, if your overclocking your gpu youll want to cool the southbridge, but just put a sink on it and it should be alright. the reason you doont need to cool it because the cpu goes through the north bridge to the ram (but the i7 goes directly to the ram) and the gpu goes from the pcix to the southbridge to the cpu.

Running P5N-d board in my Cosmos 1000 case with older 3.73 Extreme dual core that is OC'ed to 4.07ghz. Running two 8800GTX in SLI but getting silly stupid 3Dmark6 score of 2980.

Yes, using latest drivers etc.SLI confirmed.Windows Ultimate 64 bit. Any help on stepping up this 3Dmark6 score. Note- Runs stable at 59 degree C.

High Temp was anticipated due to 3.73 Extreme dual core was always tempermental.Has Corsair 4mb. Ran "Pi" stress program for 48 hrs burn in with no problem. HELP anyone??

Intel chipset is not good in the Over Clocking rigs. For instance, Intel's Skull Trail is the worst mb (maximum pc magazin benchmark).

Also the Nehalem is not that great. Even though Nahalem speed is higher than the rest, it still is a 45nm processor and other minuscule features. Don't get me wrong I like the Nehalem but it is not worth the wait because you will not see much of the difference with current high-end processor such as the QX9775.

Well i have the Q9770 which is the Extreme Edition, but if you are into more multi tasking you would consider with the higher L3 cache memory because i do alot of autocat, Pic edit, video rendering and lots of editing. Even i OC to 4.0 i still bottleneck because it lack between the cpu cache and gfx card. Well Nahalem would defiantly out perform my QX9770 i promise you! Note* if you considering buying the Nehalem for gaming you should just wait for Q1 2009. I dont want to say why, just go figure

Of course, i have a 680i motherboard, the Asus P5N32 - E SLi motherboard which has one of those sound cards.... You'll notice that the card connects into a PCI - E 1x slot right right next to the PCI - E 16x...... Only Dual Slot cards can Tri - SLi, and if you do that, you'll need to remove the sound card because your video card will literally dwarf the Sound Cards slot, pretty disappointing. My sound card uses a modified PCI - E 1x slot, different shape and golden fins, behind the graphics card

yes it can but this is a NVIDIA board it would be better to go with a NVIDIA grapics card ^^ but if u get a ATI card than it will work with it

Yeah you can, but you can not put two ATI graphics cards (ATI Crossfire) in this motherboard because its not supported by the chipset (Chip supports SLI only!)
