Honduran Red Points are related to Convicts, but are a different species. The HRP's look considerably different when you see them next to Convicts. The term "Blue Convict" is referring to when they cross. I have some HRP x Black Convict fry in my 10 gallon tank right now actually. I plan to keep 1 or 2 and give a couple to a friend, but the rest will be fed to my flowerhorn and Dempseys.
Honduran Red Point, or sometimes called a blue con. In the video there is a firemouth (just a tank mate), the big con in the video is from a honduran red point and con mix, I have newer videos of another mix just like this one breeding with a regular con, I also have older video of this fish's parents, but can't post links because youtube won't let me.
"Convicts and thier fry" Apr 23 07 is this guy's parents, and "Convicts with eggs" is this guy's brother breeding with a regular con.
i have the same fish, looks exactly the same. it is supposably a convict but he has blue lips and red on his tail. Do you think me may part convict and part honduran red point?? he was sold as a male convict though
Coule be, cons will cross breed with anything willing, many hybrids out there, the main con traits are usually dominate in the off spring so it can be hard to tell. We sold out crosses to a store that sold them as regular cons as well.
Yup red point is a blue con. Colored slightly different that a regular con, more blue gray, less visible stripes, unless they are showing thier colors. Fin size is also different, blues have much longer fins, bred that way. Where as the con not bred for the fins or looks are identical to the wild cons, short fins (because they fight and are territorial). Much like bettas, wild ones have very short fins compared to the ones we see today bred for color and fin length.
the only real difference is where they are found on the earth and as far as wild ones having longer i have a pair of domestic breed pink convicts that have just as long fins as my old bared con the males have longer fins then the females dude i would know i have been breeding them for years and also there is no such thing as a blue convict cichlid the every day hobbiest created it
You've been breeding them for years and you TRUST wikipedia??????? Did I not say that the blues where bred that way? BTW There are "wild" blue cons, it is called enviromental adaptation, the same reason in parts of england you oly have grey moths, and in other parts there are white and gray moths. You said you bred your pinks with longer fins.
I believe honduran red points are a subspecies of a convict or something along that line. The differences are red points are less aggressive and have more blue on their abdomen and throat area
We had a feeder that never got ate, until about a month ago actually he was almost a year old, our tex ate him, one half one day one half the next. Thanks for viewing.
"Convicts with eggs" Dec 15 08, is a vid of this guy's brother breeding with a regular con, you can see the mix a little better, I have to convert my video for you tube so I loose some digital quality.
I think my male is like urs check him out!

But enough, no point to argue on youtube.
