If religion can not help us to become better people, then what good can it do?

I don't believe in God. I don't believe that there is a "better" place after death. I believe that once your dead, thats it. It sometimes confuses my as to how someone can actually believe there is an ultimate good that can do anything when we, his supposed top creation, suffer like we do from the flaws he supposedly built into us. Religion is not the problem. It's a common mistake to claim that religions cause wars. No. Greed, fear, lust for power, ignorance, these universal human flaws cause wars. There could be no modern civilization without religion, just study history. Religion gave us universities, hospitals, schools, science, and literacy. To judge all religion by its worst constituents is equal to judging all politics by only dictators and tyrants. Foolish, immature, and wrong.

A world without religion would still be at war because religion is only an example of how all human systems can be corrupted by our fundamental flaws. "Religion is bad" is a false meme to distract people from the real problem - the inner darkness that we each bring to the table.

You don't have to. Just look at the texts themselves. How many times do I have to tell people. How is the Old and/or New testament moral? How is the Qu'ran moral? @AECSRQ universities - if you're talking about universities under Exilarch's in the middle east, they were mainly religiously headed institutions that taught many immoral practices, as even Maimonides himself was dumb enough to think that science proved Judaism. So much for an institution of higher learning that you so fervently supported. and claim that the bad comes from man. The University as we know it today is thanks to humanism, the direct opposition to irrational religion. Period

@AECSRQ They say the perfect is the enemy of the good, meaning that the pursuit of a perfect solution to a problem generally has the effect of indefinitely stalling any solution at all. It's true that the church did good things in running universities, schools and hospitals. It's unknowable whether these things might have come about through some other effort had the church not taken them on. We do know that having a power structure with a lot of blind followers is occasionally a disaster.

@anbayanyay There have been times when religion was the only thing holding back the degeneration of society into total barbarism and chaos. During the tribal dark age in Europe (early medieval period) it was the church and the Arab mosques which preserved the knowledge of mathematics, astronomy, literature, philosophy, and medicine. The first universities grew out of cathedral schools that merged with professional guilds in Bologna, Paris, and Salamanca. A complex history.

Not only that but some other organizations may well have formed those same institutions had the church not done so (and they may have done better, or worse, things). Just because the Church created those institutions doesn't mean that was the only way it could have happened.

Only the future holds possibilities, the past is definite and unalterable. Unless time is symmetrical and reality fades off into increasing uncertainty in both past and future... are historical revisionists and futurists engaged in the same activity but facing different directions?

They also said the "Gods" (which came in their vehicles from the sky) gave them knowledge and so on and after the gods disappeared after the big god war in the sky(they destroyed ech other in their vehicles with lightning) other religions were created from those original ones until now. That's the truth. It's all allready PROVEN you just have to read the right books.

I love everything about you. The way you sing (though the high notes are a little scratchy but mine are too, so I can't really say thats bad) Your belief. Christianity literally ruined the world or maybe so the Catholic Church ruined it by turning it into greed and other apparent "sins" Such as Pride.
