  • you kinda left the sheathing a little short it is always a good thing to get the plastic outside underneath the crimp so that you will have less stress on the cables. Just thought i should throw that out there.

  • your technically not supposed to crimp ends onto stranded pre-made cat5. fyi

  • @powerlineman20 I know, all I had as an example. LOL

  • @powerlineman20 Can you explain yourself?

  • Great video. Thanks. By the way how can a person tell the different between cat5 and cat6 cables and are these two cable compatible? would it be ok to replace cat5 with a cat6 patch cable?

  • @Snowcatclaw Thanks! Cat6 will usually be labeled as such, it's much thicker, etc.. Cat6 transfers at 1000bits/s where as Cat5 is only 100bits/s. It is perfectly okay to replace your Cat5 with a Cat6 but your network will only be as fast as it's weakest link. So if you are running a 100bit router that is all you will see.

  • @Johnnysshop Cat5e works perfectly well at 1Gb/s.

  • @luuuuuuuuuuuk sure does

  • how long is an ethernet cable?

  • They come in a variety of sizes. The maximum run length is around 330 ft

  • do you know where i can physicly get one?

  • Best Buy, just about anywhere. If you are looking for a spool, Home Depot sells them.

  • just a note ur not suspose to have the wires hanging out of the end

  • Yeah, I know. Just a quick vid. You really aren't even supposed to use that particular wire (too thick) but it's all I have laying around.

  • do u know a way to crimp w/o a crimp tool? i want to make one but i dont have that necessary tool

  • I would just get the screw on type connectors. You could crimp it with some needle nose but you have to be careful.

  • great video

  • Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.
