It's not harmful to install your drivers and then download the latest. Especially, if you're upgrading from one card to another.If your screen is messed up after you install your graphics card, it may be difficult reaching for the latest ones on line. I don't know why everyone recommends getting rid of the drivers CD ^^

I'm pretty sure the Ares will stay the fastest for now. The 5970 Toxic is a 5970, not 2 5870's. People believe the 5970 is two 5870s, but it is not.

You can think of the Ares as two 5870s raped together.

i got the exact same card. bought it at canada computers in mississauga. i have a corsair hx1000psu. i drove 2200km round trip to get the card.they are hard to find. it fitted perfectly in my case. a raidmax smilodon.

Heres the kicker, I got one of these cards and I'm getting almost on par with two 5870s in crossfire, just a few fps slower and I saved 150 bucks in the process. And also, my one 5970 beats out 2 radeon 5870s in Crysis.

ive seen some benchmarks that the 5970 does better at 850mhz core than a CF 5870 because the signal linking between the dual GPUs in the 5970 are more tight so they are more compatible with each other. also SLI and crossfire always has the tendency to do horrible on some games and with the 5970 you wont have that problem.

Well you will probably be needing 650watts, but still it is a little low if you are planning on a high-end system. really, there is no need for this card unless you are going expensive. so my personal suggestion is that you should get atleast 850w. then you also got the possibility to go crossfireX if you got the wallet for it. though it won't be a need for another one in a year or maybe two.

Although it's cheaper than two 5870s, the GPUs are heavily under-clocked and with only one card I can imagine it being quite loud and noisy. I can't wait until they release a water-block for it, with a triple rad I'm sure you could clock them slightly above the 5870's specifications and achieve some serious frame-rates. Although I believe the performance of the card may be throttled by the fact that it only uses a 16x lane?

TBH I have the 5870 and the half a slot for cooling actually works really well, spits like a gajillion litres of hot air out of it while playing games, it's actually a really effective cooling system in there, the most I've seen my card get up to is about 48c
