  • classic landing :))

  • And the benefit of an escort is???

  • Comment removed

  • @EWLGtoday My thoughts exactly! If there were terrorists in there, then I guess bye-bye plane....... and passengers.........

  • wow this is wierd, you would not expect this to happen on Cathay Pacific, or in Canada for that matter. Just a dumb prank call ruins a perfect flight plan.

  • escort is a fancy word for justified positioning to blow you out of the air lmao

  • first one to tell me why the cathay pacific a340 was escorted i will subscribe to them! please someone tell me

  • @SickStyle2397 Hello i have posted this in the info section right below the video.......thanks for watching

  • Why did they escort the A340?

  • @abc153649 a direct hit from a sidewinder or stinger would blow the plane clean in half!

  • @abc153649 Yeah, a burst of 1800 rounds of 30 mill wont do a thing, ya think?

  • where was this flight bound for? toronto?

  • @Cathaydude this flight goes back and forth from hong kong.

  • @delpillar i know but where was this aircraft about to go before it got escorted?

  • @Cathaydude CX838 is the daily flight to vancouver

  • @delpillar thanks for letting me know. Then why would the fighter jets escort the a340 if its going to vancouver anyway? The canadian fighter jets thought CX838 was bound for somewhere else in Canada?

  • wow :) really awesome ! :)

  • 1:14 look an F-18!

  • What exactly would the fighter jets do if there was a bomb, besides nothing?

  • @OzNix05 Shoot it down, if the plane was hijacked with the intent of crashing it into a populated area.

  • What does it help to have two F-18s next to you if you have a bomb? I mean they cant diffuse it or anything?

  • i remember seeing this in the news, and i thought, BOMB ON CATHAY?!?! im going on cathay from vancouver in a few weeks and this happens?!

  • lol niice

  • how dare u escort my favourite airline Cathay Pacific? Did a bomb explode at their destination airport?

  • @Cathaydude are you from Hong Kong. I hate Cathay, they are bunch of racist pricks would rather hire European pilots than Chinese pilots. They also pay less to Hong Kong pilots.

  • @wuyunchi cathay is owned by a english company they are english pilots try listening to the cabin call outs

  • @Cathaydude They are based in Hong Kong. It's partly owned by Swire and Cathay called themselves the "Hong Kong airlines". The HQ is also in Hong Kong, a lot of high ranking officials are Chinese! The stock holdings are also in Hong Kong. But they are bunch of artificial racist pricks. I saw more Chinese flying for Air NZ than Cathay. WTF do this tell us?

  • @wuyunchi Em... Chinese being racist to... Chinese.

  • I was on the plane and have video from the inside...

  • why what happen ??

  • What can a fighter jet really do when there is a bomb on the passenger plane? I guess blow up the plane?

  • why do they have to be escorted by military planes just because they think it's a bomb? the military planes can't do nothing about it anyway?

  • I was studying for Physics when I saw the two CF-18s fly past my window.

They just arrived from Comox and weren't escorting a plane yet.

  • Nice video and you,re lucky that you took this rare ocassion. By the way, did anyone notice alot of A330 and A340s have hard and bouncy landings in Many YouTube videos compared to 777 or a380 and other aircrafts? I never been in A330 so I don't know how hard landings are but they look hard by looking at their wing flex(?)

  • i didnt hear about this before can anyone expand?

  • @roryj123ok there was a bomb threat.

  • @seaboo143 was the threat aboard or called in

  • @roryj123ok yes. aboard

  • @seaboo143 how come people didnt know what was happening?

  • The f-18s were all like awh hell naw man you damn airbus causin trouble

  • A340 landed too extreme..

  • @petertcf Pilots were probably a little nervous with the bomb threat and wanted to get it down fast.

  • @brendalogy

do you know, why they were following your plane?!

  • @FSXFriend There was a bomb threat.

  • @FSXFriend Oops, just saw this comment. I was absolutely clueless on the plane (was seated in the middle row, so I saw nothing) and was still kept in the dark even when we were detained at YVR. The officers refused to divulge anything. It was only when I switched on my laptop and saw the news on CNN (there was wireless at the airport) when I discovered why.

Old news by now, but a phone call was received warning of a bomb on this plane (which was a hoax later on), so the jets escorted us.

  • @g25a25c

    F-18

  • can someone give me the radio transcript for the first 20 seconds?

  • 虛驚一場

  • what was the escorts call? (ei. f-16)

  • F-18 Hornets

  • @wuyunchi we call them cf-18's

  • @g25a25c Aircraft type is a Cf-18; call sign was "Hornet 01"

  • best vid capture ever!

  • Very nice!

  • Very nice video !

  • i was on this flight i saw one of the f-18s and noticed that the hosteses seemed very tense

  • it must be frigin scary to be on that plane even through there were no bomb

  • I saw this on the news wow you managed to catch it on tape great...

  • If your wife wants to learn to drive, don't stand in her way.

  • Looked one of the JFs was doing a "S" Turn if Im not mistaken but why?.... Great coverage Del' - TY

  • @oneofthemdeals to slow down...also had gear down and no doubt full flaps

  • Yes, really interesting.

  • looks like two F18s

  • i saw the 2 cf-18's at Steveston flying back to comox

  • i dont udnerstand why there was a bomb threat, and the passengers were kept on the plane? surley it would be best to get them off incase something did happen

  • @abysalhydra yeah. why didn't they just open a door and jump out?...lol

  • Phew, I'm sure that I dont wanna have a 5/15 happening here in canada.

  • kudos to Canada Govt (military) for drastic action

  • Good catch. They always have these fighters doing dog runs and training runs here at Cold Lake, but I've never seen them outside of a training run =P

  • Your video was featured in the news. Saw it just a couple of hours ago on the telly.

  • I was originally booked on this flight but luckily changed to an earlier flight. Thank god no one was hurt

  • @dchong77 then u just missed out a once in a life time experience

  • Top Gun 2010

  • Great vid! Amazing catch!

  • What an amazing video to capture, pretty much a once in a lifetime type of thing, contratulations on making such a good job of the filming. One can only wonder how freaked you'd be as a passenger in these circumstances. Well done.

  • I saw news about this. Excellent catch!

  • Great catch boy!!!

  • Didn't expect such a good video. Nice one.

  • I've heard it in radio today---

  • prob something to do with Ragheads again

  • @BushPir8e

You're disgusting. Officials have found that the entire thing was a hoax, and that there was no threat.

  • @revaholic

Perhaps you might be one eh.

  • @BushPir8e

Nope, never worn a turban in my life. No lineage to South Asia.

  • the 1st CF-18 looks like armed with a Sidewinder missile on left wing

  • @type45tomcat21 Most hornets are usually armed with one heater, and one radar guided missile while on patrol. They're in and out of CFB Trenton almost every week and they are always armed. Just the demonstration jet is unarmed for airshows.

  • @type45tomcat21 Standard load out for a NORAD intercept on a CF-18 is 2 sidewinders on the wing rails, 3 sparrows one on each outer pylon and one on the starboard inlet. 3 drop tanks and 1 flir pod on the port inlet station.

  • @type45tomcat21 I don't know why the planes had such a light load out on this intercept, probably because it was a civilian plane and not the usual bear patrolling in the north

  • Great video! Is it me or was that CF-18 unarmed? I didn't see any missiles mounted on its pods.

  • @KrisYYZ Look at the wing tips, they are armed. Their guns are also hot as well.

  • @KrisYYZ Actually looking at the wing tips again, they don't look armed. Anyway, their guns are always armed and more than enough to take an A340 out of the sky.

  • @SkyWestCRJPilot thanks.

  • I was on this flight! Many of the passengers seated along the window seats saw the military jets following us (while I was in the middle row and didn't see anything). They kept the situation top-secret from us until we eventually discovered it ourselves mostly through media reports from the television screens at the baggage collection area.

  • @brendalogy i've watched some of the passenger interviews on the news.

  • @brendalogy Cool!

  • @brendalogy I was the shipside officer of this flight at Hong Kong Airport

  • The registration was B-HXD , Great footage !

  • wow!!!

  • great capture!!

  • It was B-HXD.

  • delpillar, did you just happen to be on the scene at the time or did you hear about it first?

  • @lennylovesit it was luck and the other guy there gave me a heads up cause i was on outer Van. frequency and looking somewhere else then quickly changed over.

  • Wow! Some drama there! Nicely captured!

  • If a bomb did go off, what would the fighters do?

  • @TheAviationSpotter97 i think they were just there to make sure the plane wasnt hijacked and didnt decided to go off corse and try hit a building. Just for procaution

  • Great vid!

  • Wow amazing fottage :D

From ACARS database, the registration might be B-HXD (cn 147).

  • WOW NICE!

  • I just watched this on the news. lol

  • Just found a photo on CTV news in the article "Vancouver flight bomb threat was a 'false alarm'". I think it might be B-HXF (MSN: 160) or B-HXE (MSN: 157).

  • Ummm.....a major clue that this should have been marked as a prank is that terrorists wouldnt plant a bomb on a plane and then report it. Like, what would be the purpose? Second, scrambling a jet....firstly, its pointless especially if a supposed terrorist tipped you off that a bomb was on board. Like, WTF? Finally, I was at that airport today, you can have a picnic watching planes fly right over you. If a terrorist wanted to swat planes from the sky hed bring a picnic basket with a grenade.

  • Crazy kids and their pranks. When i was a kid my favorite prank was having Pizza Hut deliver a pizza to Dominos. We`d watch and laugh our asses off. I´d never have thought about causing jumbo jets to divert and fighter jets being scrambled. Very cool!! Puts my prank to shame.

  • Great catch, how many other YouTube spotters can claim capturing something similar? :D

  • Scary stuff

  • It turns out it was an hoax with two calls made from a pay phone.

  • @dchengg

Interesting the call was directed at a particular flight.

  • Excellent Upload!

  • what's the point of the escort?

  • @jjouney

Might have to shoot it down in case the plane was going to do a Jihad into a city.

  • @jjouney to bomb the shit out of the bomb carrying plane :))))

  • cool

  • nice filming and an interesting catch!

  • @frequentairbusflyer8 thanks. tough to film smooth when there way out there. but doens't happen everyday so i uploaded anyway. thanks for watching.

  • oh if you still was wondering what happen, there was a bomb threat

  • Im going on this flight during the summer seconds thoughts now... Your so lucky were you just there and this happen or did you hear the news and went to record?

  • uhmmm can i know why they escorted the plane??? uhhmmm maybe a zombie was on board lol!!!! haha or the president

  • @mutizen99 hi how do you do that @youtube.comdelpillar?? plsss share i dont want my vids to be stolen too cheers

  • @mutizen99

hey man!!!! i have solved ur problem plss read this ---On 15 May 2010, Cathay Pacific Flight 838, an Airbus A340-300 from Hong Kong, China was escorted to YVR by two CF-18 Hornets after a bomb was suspected to be on board. After receiving the bomb threat, the Canadian Forces scrambled two of the fighter jets to ensure it made it to Vancouver, BC. The aircraft landed safely...cheers
