Do u use a smudge stick or cotton wool..I could'nt tell. I'm learning from guys like you and any tips are gratfully recieved. How long did that take...oh! by the way that was outstanding...Also you started with the darkest tone first which is more unusal if what I see on utube is anythng to go by.

@MikeCAE1 Practice :) Take some time to do some preliminary sketches throughout your portrait ordeal. Check out some other artists, I like to study Rembrandt. :)

If you soften the edges (softer where there is fat or muscle, harder edges where there is bone underneath the skin) you will avoid a "cut-out" look and make it three-dimensional.

For your charcoal work, i'm not very experienced at charcoal work...more of a graphite person, but ANYWAYS! do you just color it in (with the right shading porportions that is) and smooth it out with a brush and paper stump?

Very impressive. I recommend going another step and adding your own original lingerie and design elements so you're not only reproducing the photo but using it as a template to build on. Put something of yourself in it or it's a rather pointless exercise aside from practicing your skills. Aside from that consideration, I think you should be proud of the technique you've developed which will only get better. Since so many pin up artists work from photos, it's important to not be a xerox machine.

@MaryMiYaVi I do Bettie pencil drawings from her photos too but my technique is no where as good as yours. I'm left handed too.MIne take 60 hours not 6 because I do very intricate work on lingerie patterns like repeating ovals mimicking lace with a sharp pencil. I think you have a very bright future ahead of you as an illustrator and painter. You can see the enthusiasm and curiosity in your technique which I assume you created yourself through trial and error.
