thank you to all the people who have 'liked', favourited or left a positive comment! if anyone's interested, i've left a couple of new videos in reply to this one - check them out and i'll appreciate it!
@cybergodson yeah, i just felt that one of the greatest popular lyricists of our time needed an acknowledgement of how essential to his culture he is the same way that he paid tribute to Ra.
don't worry. i get that kind of reaction all the time. i'd also say that because this is one of my somewhat earlier works, this isn't really a good indicator of what i can do now. i've got this really big project going on right now and hopefully i can upload some material from it later this year to show what i'm capable of now.
hip hop is supose to come from the heart. and that sounded like you put of geniune heart into it. good job. you can stand to break your flow up a lil so we can understand the words more.
it's a bit of a problem on the international scene cos hip-hop is so essentially urban American. there hav been 'foreign' rappers who hav crossed over into US hip-hop culture tho. ppl also forget that Slick Rick, a pioneer in Golden Age hip-hop, was actually born in Wimbledon, which is only a quick jump on the train away from where i live (just south of London)
I know where Slick Rick came from and I am aware of his accent. I even know a lot of underground artist who are trying to come up that have all sorts of accents even some relevantly close to yours. But it is a known fact, accents in general do not compliment the essence of hip hop. It just doesn't sound correct to the ear. But people like Low Key can pull it off.
hahaha word well other than what i said, i thot it was great! u could rap circles around alot of the rappers hot in the us rite now and thats real.
i suggest u work on either getting a really distinctive flow or a delivery to make u stand out. u already got the lyrics down so if u do that who knows, u may be able to become a professional rapper :)
i've got a friend who does this (he's the frontman in a rap/rock band) and he says that a personal flow is something that comes naturally with time. it looks like he's right cos my voice does sound more unique now when rapping than it did about 2-3 years ago and in another coupla years, it'll probably change even more.
and yeah, sumtimes i swear i cud pick up some random kid freestyling on a corner, put him in a studio & make a better song than most the shitthey have in the top 40...
black? the closest i come to using ebonics is the contraction "'y'all", which is pretty commonplace...'wack' and 'ill' are general terms in hip-hop culture - the vast majority of rappers are used to saying them regardless of race.
anyway, thanks for dropping the feed - i appreciate it.
thanks man. i've actually thought about sending him the proper track when it's done, but for the obvious reason, he ain't too keen on making his email address public...i guess i cud wait until he's in concert in England and try to give itt o him personally, but then i'd probs jst end up looking like yet another desperate fan, haha.
mainstream hip-hop may be in a time of drought even in regard to our local stuff (wack grime artists spitting nursery-level rhymes at high speed over electronic dance beats >.>), but there's still plenty of Brits holdin it down for Nasty Nas ;)

Pretty sick dude i only suggest you work on making ur words clearer, sometimes u seem to slur them prolly cuz ur trying to keep up wit the beat..
other than that, i liked it a lot!

5.5
TenSets 2 years ago
sorry, was that meant to indicate 5.5 out of 10 (average/pretty good) or 'out' of 5 (excellent)...?
Corallis 2 years ago
You're just a kid, but talented as hell I can tell...(I'm a professional musician myself)
stop talking like you're black coz you're not
5.5 meant I rated 5 of 5 - excellent!
Lots of Good Luck!!
