I like how everyone makes fun of CSX, but as per the FRA and AAR 2005 and 2006 records, they came in as being the third safest and well-maintained railroad, being behind Amtrak and NS, being ahead of BNSF, UP and KCS. If any railroad is to worry about, it is UP, who put the country in gridlock in 1996 after the SP acquisition. CSX is not bad off at all, but it is idiotic commentary like this above that gives CSX a bad name....(sigh)
i know how that is i dont really mind but CSX is 1 of the safest but they possibly derail alot more than UP KCS & BNSF? i think if anything it is NS which we need to watch on remember the June 19th 2007 Ethanol train derailment?
I was mostly referring to the other commenter, and not you. I have heard different variations of what CSX stands for - Crash, Smash and Xplode, Chemical Spill Xperts, Conrail's Southern Xtension and Chessie Still Xperimenting and so on. I am saying that when someone says "CSX sucks" or otherwise says that derailments are a daily occurrence on CSX, you are giving it a bad name to those who know less about CSX. :)
thats true i think CSX is still a pretty pathetic but in saftey its a RR worth trusting and the CSX deprtment hasnt derailed 1 time this year until now 1 derailment makes them look bad
First of all, how is CSX pathetic? Give me three good reasons. Alot of idiots say stuff like "they suck, I don't like their engines and I have had bad experiences with them." Common, give me some legitimate reasons. I have family on CSX and a couple friends, and I want to know why? Why is ONE derailment bad too? BNSF and UP have had several this year, even NS, but I don't hear you dishing it out to them. (I am sure CSX has had more derailments this year than one), but give me 3 reasons....
1. they derail in the same area alot for whatever reason
2. Quite often CSX crewman (not all) dont blow there horn at crossing and just simply let the gates handle the traffic
3. They sometimes dont pay attention to crossing when they the gates are already down but im just saying CSX isnt as bad as i think it was but CSX NS UP & BNSF even have derailments and i know CSX is just sometimes a dissapointment to the RR's and it gets kinda old But CSX doesnt always SUCK CSX they rate a 7 to me ok.
Sorry about the other reply - but I have yet to see an engineer (on any railroad) fail to sound the horn for a crossing. It happens from time to time, but that is the crew member's fault, not CSX at all. Your reason number three makes no sense to me. And as for reason number one, how do you figure? Are you talking about New York. All railroads have a period of misfortunate events, yet CSX gets the worst of it. I think it is ridiculous. :)
i have seen it actually quite alot on my line they are 4 crossing back to back in my town and they hardly blow it in the day and at night they sit on the horn all through town thats why CSX makes me mad lol but they are an ok RR
That is the crew's fault. What you should do if you see them fail to sound the horn for a crossing, is call CSX and report the train and locomotive number. It is illegal for a train to pass through a crossing silent without city orders or a quiet zone. Don't blame CSX for lazy crews. CSX is a decent railroad, not the best and definitely not the worst. :)
i know it is the crews fault im not saying its the companys fault its the crews fault lots of they're crews are the greatest or the best be sure to check out some of my newer videos

Most of that is untrue and is just negative publicity....
