  • would any VST plug ins work with pro tools m-powered essential? i know its extremely limited but its call i can get at the moment. im kind of new at this stuff so any help would be appreciated.

  • @volcomRiderr Hi, thanks for your question. You can use VST plugins with Pro Tools but you will need a VST wrapper. Pro Tools only works with RTAS plugins (plugin format). The wrapper let's Pro Tools think the VST plugin is an RTAS plugin allowing you to make full use of the effect in your sessions. Search for "VST wrapper for Pro Tools" on google and you'll get more info on how to install and use.

  • Hi Justin. Thanks for the vid post. I just purchased Pro Tools MP9 and I'm trying to use a .vst plug in that a friend designed. Do you know where to put this type of plug in for PT MP?

I tried to just place it into the plug-ins folder but PT didn't recognize it. Is an installer for .vst plugins required? Any suggestions?

  • hey idk if youll be able to help me with this but im running pro tools m powered 8 on windows 7 and my air plugins are nowhere to be found..any idea of what the issue might be? i would reinstall but for the longest time pro tools wouldnt install because it said it wasnt compatable with win 7 but somehow i got it to work and dont want to risk an attemped reinstall

  • HI HOW YOU CAN INSTALL THE AUNTUNE

  • Hi Justin, where would I put them in Windows 7? I'm guessing it would be in a similar folder, but where?!

  • @djlobb Hi, thanks for getting in touch. To install plugins on a Windows computer go to: Program Files > Common Files > Digidesign > DAE > Plug-Ins.

  • i have pro tools se how to i use vsts i downloaded and plugins on windows 7

  • @compact155 Hi, thanks for your question. Pro Tools SE is a somewhat limited in that you can't install third party plugins. To do so you can upgrade to Pro Tools MP. Now, in order to use VST plugins with Pro Tools you'll have to use a plugin wrapper. A quick google search of "pro tools vst wrapper" will turn up some results on where to download the wrapper. Hope this info helps.

  • how do you work them while using protools.

  • @DANCINGBEAR100 Hi, thanks for tuning in. Once you install your plugins and launch Pro Tools click and hold on an insert within a channel strip and you'll get a drop menu of the plugin choices you have. Choose one and you can turn it on and off using the bypass button on the upper left hand side of the plugins. Hope this helps.

  • @GOsaidGoOff Hi, yes correct. Pro Tools SE doesn't feature the AudioSuite plugins : (

  • @GOsaidGoOff Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Sounds like you might have Pro Tools SE edition. Can you verify?

  • i cant find a Digidesign Folder???

  • @jessemitten Head scratcher of the day this. It turned out for me that it wasn't in: User - Library - Application Support. It was in Mac HD - Library - Application Support. For anyone with this problem, try looking there.

  • Please when you give out these great tutorials can you also remember that thousands of us use PT on a PC!!

  • @alanlambert Will do, thanks for the feedback

  • @MrYrgMusic Hey thanks for the question, it depends on what version of Pro Tools you are using. If you are using M-powered, you will need an M-audio interface, in which case the fast track will work. If you are using LE 8 or an earlier version, you need an Mbox. With Pro Tools 9 you can use any interface, although you will need iLok. Let us know if this information helps.

  • Is this only for Mac? Or Pc too...?

  • @ineffect781 Hey thanks for the question, installing plugins in your digidesign plugin folder works for both mac and pc. Let us know if this helps.

  • thanks for the help

I have a problem, i instaled a waves bundle, and all plugins are ".bundle" extension. I'm confused, it should be ".dpm", or not? I tried to rename th files but pro tools still can't read it.

    Thank you guys!

  • i tried installing waves diamond 4.0.5; i get a message that the Waveshell-AudioUnits Utility could not find the waveshell-AU.component. what does that mean?

  • @down2earthrecords Hello for pro tools try installing the wavesshell-RTAS version. AU or audio units wont work with pro tools you need to RTAS version. Try installing that or making sure that is installed and let me know if it works.

    Justin

  • @WiNKsound , thanks for the feedback, i thought it was the RTAS version. I got the bundle from a friend who is using it on an MBOX.

  • how do i get my old mac OS9 waves bundle to work in my new 0SX digi 003? they appear in my plug in folder but dont come up in my session

  • @down2earthrecords Not sure why this is happening but usually the easiest fix is to update the plug ins to their latest version.

Give this a try and get back to me if it works out.

If not I will do some further research for you

  • Thanks!

  • Nice..

  • @ Hamlin. No what u have heard or should have heard is that your sample libraries, if the plug in uses a library at all should be on a second drive not the plug ins themselves.

  • I was told to put all your plug-ins and also your 3rd party plug-ins on a different hard drive. Rather than all of your plug-ins on C: drive. I have always wondered this myself.

  • Comment removed

  • @hamlin49036 Plug-ins always need to be in that folder so Pro Tools can use them, but most instruments' plug-ins come with big libraries that take lots of space on hard drive and it is always better to install this samples (Not a plug-in!) on different Hard Drive. If you need more help with that sand me a message.
