1) Lula is not the chair of any tribunals. Like other people have noted here before, the Judiciary is independent from the Executive. Also, the Legislative (you know, where the laws are written and voted) is also not controlled by Lula. (continues)

Sometimes the laws endorsed by the Worker's Party (PT) get the majority of votes, sometimes they don't. And the President's veto power in Brazil works just like the one in the US.

2) José Alencar, the vice-president of Brazil, is a member of the Brazilian Republican Party (PRB), not of the Worker's Party (now I wanna see the dozens of comments trying to understand how "communists" and "republicans" can run for office together by asking stupid questions...)

3) There are three laws that regulate everything that has to do with elections. They are from 1965, 1995 and 1997. Although they seem obsolete just because they are old, be not frightened: they have been updated throughout the years by other laws.

4) Although the "don't make fun of politicians has been there a while, it was only in 2009 that an amendment to the 1997 law stipulated exactly how not to make fun of politicians (by using visual and audio effects and editing the footage to ridicule politicians). That is mainly because there is a new comedic TV show, as well as countless humor websites out there that are making politicians more vulnerable to publicity of their wrongdoings. And impunity has always been a constant for them (cont)

This has nothing to do with any specific parties, it was something almost all of them agree on.

So there you have it: politicians (mainly congressmen) were afraid of this new generation of multimedia comedians and decided to protect themselves against the legitimate and the very much spectacular-driven jokes at least while they harvested votes back at home (since voting is mandatory and not by list in Brazil, they need to convince a large number of people to vote for them or they lose their seat in Congress).

I suggest you guys at least consult a Brazilian lawyer before the next video...
