This is great! When I was in Shanghai several years ago during the Chinese New Year I ate at a restaurant that had similar sized red crane on the ceiling. They were awesome . . . like yours. It does help to see how one might fold such a huge sheet of paper. Many thanks for the "exercise".
I have used 300gsm cardstock before which I taped together. You can usually order a big ream from craft shops but is quite expensive. That or as I said in a previous post- get friendly with someone from the paper industry. Hope this helps!
Wow! I am trying to make giant cranes as decoration for my wedding. What do you recommend for paper? (strong enough to hold, soft enough to fold, hum...)
Thank you - I will call a printing shop. I will try to post my results on youtube later (I am trying to reach the goal of 1000 folded cranes as in the japanese tradition... NOT 6 ft each fortunately!)
Sorry for the late response. I've had to change the audio as Frank Sinatra's 'Come Fly With Me' was naughty to put onto here :-(
The acquisition of the paper was a matter of serendipity to be honest. A friend had a whole ream of A1 card which she wanted to get rid of so i sellotaped them together. Later, I received a huge roll of card from Tetrapack which they kindly donated to my University so i made more from that. I'd say just get friendly with those in the paper industry if you want some!
that looks fun
