  • I used to watch this on tv and was amazed at how Sebastian's facial expressions are like my own. Even tho I am not an English aristocrat who takes a fancy to heavy drinking.

  • I agree totally

  • Oh I so want to see the mini-series, I loved the book, this is one of my favourite lines.

  • i've never been gay-but i understand.......

  • The straight male world is still full of these "romantic friendships," especially in college. We just no longer have a name for them.

I watched this as a child, before I knew I was gay. It took me years to figure out why I was so fascinated by Charles and Sebastian's friendship.

  • Exactly - it's a loving yet platonic between two immature men. To suggest that it is sexual in nature is to debase their friendship somewhat. If Waugh had wanted to make the two characters gay he would have done so in stronger terms; the homosexual Anthony Blanche is supposed to be a contrast to these two, not a more explicit representation.

  • @beardo373 dude... there wasn't a name for them then - now.... BROMANCE XD

  • I am love with this show! Sebastian is such a deat here and charles is to.

The casting here is great and I don't think that Julia is flat. The remake was bounded to faile!

  • I mean deare...not deat...sorry:P

  • Brilliant. Classic.

  • The Greatest Gift is Love

  • LOVE this. They had so much chemistry!

  • I thought You were dieing! So did I the pain was excruciating! This is truly a beautiful film and book!

  • Anthony Andrews was great as Sebastien. Jeremy Irons his best work. The actress who played Julia was flat. Laurence Olivier... fantastic as Lord Marchmain and Claire Bloom and Phoboe Nicols were also excellent, but John Gielgud stole the show as Charle's father. Why remake this classic?

  • Absolutely magnificent! I even went to Castle Howard! I was so tempted to jump into the fountain!

  • The original idea was for the two men to play the opposite roles.

Thank goodness the producer and his team changed their minds.

  • DOES NOT! WAS NOT!

  • I completely agree. miscast? I have never heard such bosh in my life!

  • Sebastian? Miscast?! -faints-

  • Well, deserved or not, you will get your wish. They are remaking it (Andrew Davies).

  • Shall I send for Mr. Chips?

  • Reading a newspaper at dinner? Horrid little boy!

  • This TV series took 22 months to shoot. Very little editing was required. The book became the film. One of the greats---and the musical score is almost as fine as Waugh's script!

  • Brilliant! How could they EVER think of a remake! This superlative television cannot be topped!

  • I completely agree!

  • wait

they're making a remake? better not.

  • Such an adorable scene... I bet gout makes Sebastian crave champagne... ;o)
