Hmmm. My dad also had similar views. As he got older, perhaps seeing wanting to re-establish a relationship with his son, he said that now he had no problem with me being gay. But I don't think that was true. Seein his own mortality getting closer, leaving my mother, he wanted to re-establish a relationship with his son. I wanted that too but I didn't want him to give up his beliefs. I just wanted him to love me; not my gayness but just to love me, his son.
Totally agree with you about the "snowball effect" that is certainly what happened in the UK. It deffinetly is "tabbo" and indeed a criminal offence to be homophobic here and thats a change thats taken just 10 to 15 years. Hopefuly the USA will be there in a short time too.
Great video, it makes me so happy for you that your dad has become so supportive. It really shows that he loves and cares for you - something that the fathers of most gay men don't often show! It definitely is a snowball effect, you hit the nail on the head with that one. Thankfully everyone's views are constantly evolving..it might take a generation or two to take affect, but acceptance is definitely growing in the right direction.
I wonder if your dad's religious views have also changed? It seems that the vast majority of people that have issues with gays do so for religious reasons.
@StraightActingGayGuy And that, to me, explains a LOT about how it is he can hang out around gay people and not be all nuts about it. Good for him! And you no doubt! Wait till he starts trying to fix you up!
I think it is really awesome that your dad has come so far. You are an amazing young man and I hope that your dad and I and other straight people in this world that do accept gays can continue to make a difference.
Eric, those have got to be six of the loveliest, most beautiful words, I have ever read entitling any upload I've seen on YouTube to date! Your Dads' "Change of Heart" and subsequent involvement, mirrors that great "Paradigm Shift" that has been, and is still working its' "Magic" on the "Hearts and Minds" of many in our Society, and in others around the World! In other words your "Snow Ball Effect", right on! I wish many blessings upon him,
congrats on having made such a difference in his attitude. you're a great person and i'm glad your father has been supportive. i agree about your 'snowball effect.' this is why we are changing the world.
I think your father is a good role model and he's doing an amazing job at really trying to show you that he loves you and loves the person that you are. I guess he's realized the truth in that, you are the same person you always have been. Only now, the secret you had to keep - that was destroying you inside - was revealed. It made your life better. He sees the good person he raised and will always be. So, I hope you show him some of these messages. And, I hope my dad can* be the man yours is.
@badger5402 I think the evolution of people's thoughts and opinions change as they are exposed to new things. For example, some people are not supportive of gay people because they perceive them as weird or they really don't know anything about them. But as these people are exposed to or learn that their child or friend is gay people reconsider their thoughts and their opinions and feelings evolve.
@StraightActingGayGuy You are certainly correct in many cases about proximity being a change factor. Unfortunately, they have to be relatively open to change, and some people are just so closed-minded it can't happen.
@badger5402 That's true but you don't ever know who's too closed minded. My parents threw me out (well gave me a few weeks to leave 1979 but attended my very gay wedding in 2004. Actually, they came around much earlier than that.
My guess is that Watching you pour yourself out on this channel changed him. Im not related to you, never met you but was seriously impressed by your honesty. A father couldnt have a more amazing person character wise for a son. And oh yeah your Gay. Did you find someone to cuddle with?
@joedawggg08 I haven't been looking for anybody to cuddle with. Once I am completed with school and I begin a new segment of my life, then perhaps I'll begin looking more actively. It is not always comfortable speaking so honestly about some issues, but I've chosen to do it because I think it's the best way to connect with people and to help people.
I hope that you tell your dad that you love him everyday and you are very lucky my dad who left us when I was younger um he's dying wish was that he hopes that you'll see me in hell to make sure you give your dad a hug for me as well
@kmilobjork There have been some barriers this past year that reduced my ability to make videos. But I still love making them and I still have things to share and speak about. I'm glad some of you continue to tune in despite my lapses in making videos.
I am 60 years old. I told my sister when I was 19 and she was fine with it until last year. As she got older, she started to watch women's TV channels. Now every child molester is a "queer". If she watches 100 shows on those disgusting channels; and every show is about a little girl being molested; it is always a "queer" doing it. Only gay men molest little boys - is what those shows teach even if they are all about fathers having sex with their own daughters. We no longer speak.
My mother never really liked gay people, and I don't think she ever really accepted the fact I am gay. Even my dad accepted it more than she did - rather like the parents of Randy Philllips. Generally, the subject was never discussed. I guess they thought it might go away if they didn't talk about it. My mother even wanted to send me to a psychiatriast to "change" me! Her sister was an RN (obviously a homophobe), and her sister recommended it. I enjoy your videos. Cheers!
Nice to hear from you again Eric! Great news!
Any chance of another shirtless vlog (an update)?!?!
