that version is so close to the original recording it's unreal. that's when you know you're listening to a class act imho. Shame the very end is cut off, but a CLASS vid. Especially liked the mirth at the idiots thinking the song was over before Red had died. lmao.
Cool! Brianna Corrigan was still in the band for the video! I have loved these guys for years. Loved this CD...so many good songs. I was lucky enough to see them live in Chicago 2 or 3 times. Thanks for the memories on this one.
The mindless, thick cattle that are the audience start cheering and clapping because they think the song is over! Idiots. Listen to Paul Heaton stifle a laugh as he continues the song to it's logical conclusion.
lets face it. these were the last of the bands who could actually sing. never anymore do we see bands that can sing. long live the Beautiful South. The very last of Englands true greats.
Oh my God! Classic. Not necessarily because of the song... But because the mindless, thick cattle that are the audience start cheering and clapping because they think the song is over! Idiots. Listen to Paul Heaton stifle a laugh as he continues the song to it's logical conclusion.
2:19 into the song. People clearly start clapping and cheering. Why? They don't know the song and they think it's ended. Listen to the lead singer's emphasis on "died" a few second later. Sounds very much like a stifled guffaw.
The band are laughing because Paul Heaton 'won the bet' by singing 'Old red END' (rudely) rather than 'Old red EYES'. Just watch his co singer unable to contain his laughter.

brilliant - i loved this song..I guess it was all about the time in my life. Someone recently said he thought it was a very sad song, but wstill beautiful, like Stay (shakespeare's sister or with a sentimental twinge eg. bluebells..young at heart)
It's an incredibly sad song, but incredibly beautiful, too. It's probably my favourite lyric , telling a story and painting a picture of a character that is easy to see, and the crowd on this occasion are just plain stupid because they simply are not listening to Heaton's words.

At 2:21 he said "old red head died" meaning the girl who sings in the band? And both men are trying not to laugh

The original lyrics are "Old red he died" but here it sounds different.
In my opinion anyway it's more likely that he is singing something like "Old red then died", that makes more sense than "Old red end died".

i think its because as one other poster said the crowd thought the song was over and began clapping etc and he stiffed the words
