How ridiculous to highlight Syd's fuck ups when everyone else is Blessed with one Takes all day long.Haters in the studio, they should be shot against the Wall, for thinking the way they do. Jealousy, envy, hatred. Should have just left it out at the End,for crying out loud !!! What point to prove ? The label is a side show to begin with
Syd wasn't depressed. He FELT differently. Not everybody wants to be a huge rock star, live in a jet, and sell trillions of albums. Sometimes they want to live in their childhood home, make art, and have a cat. He didn't have as many albums as Pink Floyd, or make millions of dollars. But he left behind two amazing works of art, in the vein of Lord Byron with a guitar, yet people are still in love with the myth of 'crazy Syd'. Quite sad really.
@ItGirl666. Spot on. His two awesome albums are indeed works of art, such shocking originaility. And his work with Pink Floyd too - Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Emily and Arnold, it's Syd. And of course, Jugband Blues. He left behind a flash of brilliance, astonishing in its intensity and quite unlike anything by any of his peers or anyone since.

@TheBraybeatles The sad part for me is that he lived the last 40 years of his life as a mental invalid. It's a sobering lesson on what extreme drug abuse can do to a man as talented as Syd Barrett.
@chev6art AHH BUT HE EXPERIENCED MORE EMOTION IN ONE DAY OF HIS LIFE THAN YOU WILL IN THE WHOLE OF YOURS, AND BY THE WAY , YOU WOULDNT EVEN HAVE THIS MUSIC TO LISTEN TO IF IT WERENT FOR THE DRUG ABUSE, EVERYTHIGN HAPPENS FOR A REASON, AND BESIDES WHO ARE YOU TO SIT IN JUDGEMENT ON A MAN AS GREAT AS SYD? YOUR PROBABLY JUST SOME LITTLE WORM
@StronglyFancied Sir, you are wrong about me. I love his music and am sorry his brilliance was extinguished long before his life ended. I am not judging him. My comments were more less observation. Yes things happen for a reason, and when it is found out, the truth is usually more humiliating than the legend.
@ItGirl666 Actually Syd did quite well financially in his last years thanks to interest taken in him. There were some years he earned 1million+ through royalties of music he made with Pink Floyd. In that respect, he did better than his dad, his mother, his sisters and his brothers, who ALL had successful careers themselves. The moral of this story: It pays to live in your childhood home, make art and have a cat!
@chev6art HE DIDNT HAVE ANY CONCEPT OF MONEY, HE NEVER CARED ABOUT IT , HE USED TO GIVE IT AWAY OR WASTE IT ON SILLY STUFF. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, NOT EVERYONE JUDGES SUCCESS IN TERMS OF MONEY, ONLY GREEDY MORONIC SIMPLETONS DO THAT.
YOU TALK TOO MUCH ABOUT THINGS YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF
@StronglyFancied He definitely didn't benefit from the millions that came his way. As you said, he didn't care, nor, I suspect, did he know what to do with it all. That's why some of it was given away, etc. But his brothers and sisters inherited quite a bit from his estate and so did the BMHA (the Mental Health Association, amongst other charities). Seems to me that THEY judged his success in terms of money. I have knowledge about this, Mr Strongly--it's not hard to research.
@StronglyFancied You know nothing about me, sir. So....when you can't refute it you resort to name-calling? Grow up! I like this song, too. Maybe if I agree with you for once I'll quit hearing from you. I like Barrett's songs and that is where we have some common ground. It transcends "feeling."
Shi-do Bareto. Ha! His name sounds even cooler in Japanese. Hey! I just realized something! There's a character named Cid and a character named Barret in Final Fantasy 7. Coincidence? Hmm....
@ArnoldLayne87 It shows me how hard he was to work with, but this spontaneous piece is actually fun to listen to. We get a glimpse into his psyche in 1971 and into the way the songs were produced. It's a beautiful thing. Made me laugh, too.
@moobert22 With the possible exception of "Here I Go," what Barrett song DOES make sense? To me, that's the beauty of his style. On some of them, you have to read the lyrics 100 times to get it.
@Flosydian yeah david did help but i still dont think it would of been david while he was recording this album they were on there first tour in america im pretty sure!
@Flosydian - Malcolm Jones was Syd's producer for most of the LP, but Roger and Dave took over in the end, so it could be one of their voices (maybe Roger, probably not Jenner). I suggest downloading (for free) or at least reading Malcolm's writings at brain-damage.co.uk. Here is the direct link to the page you want.
@manzaniita94 I mourn for him when I hear some of these songs, unfinished. He grew increasingly difficult to work with as time progressed. But even then, you (and they) knew he was a creative genius; but when he stopped making music (and eventually art) altogether, I just want to cry.
It seems like he's taking fragments of images or things from his life, and putting them one after the other, to tell a story for him, but not for anyone else lol. And its just so beautiful.
Ya, I like fucking with people on chat, who don't know syd's songs...I'll write the lyrics of his songs out like I am writting them a message lol...and they're like wtf are you talking about haha....
Best one imo, to do this with is if its in you, because it doesn't seem overly song like, when you read the lyrics written out like normal sentences haha...and they sit there like....ok I is something wrong with me? I don't understand why I am not getting this lol, and then the farther they read it gets worse and worse lol....until it finally hits them that it isnt' supposed to make sense lol
@OmegaWolfPack There is a hint of a laugh in his voice when he goes flying off high at the end. Syd had more control than people thought. Some of us like to play the deranged man and some do it better than others :)

summations of this man's life. You are repeating fragments of
segments of rumors, and the closer you look, the more dubious
they become. The Madcap Laughs alright.
