I still find the old Bert and Ernie sketches funny. Too bad Sesame street and other Jim Henson programming have degenerated over the years since his passing. Thank god people post the Classic sketches on youtube so people can remember how entertaining Sesame Street was in it's prime.
That would not surprise me in the least. We were all so much happier in the early 70's (at least kids were...I do realize the early 70's were hellish for adults).
There is no greater formula for a happy later life than to have had an INNOCENT childhood, and I feel so lucky that I had that. Innocence is something today's kids are completely lacking and they'll regret it in their adult years when they have NOTHING that can be remembered fondly.
Well, to be honest, we'll never know exactly how "innocent" todays kids are compared to '70s kids, since said '70s kids are now adults and can't very well compare, and the modern kids certainly couldn't tell you how "innocent" THEY are.
Still, I think you're right in that it was a bit easier back then for kids to be unburdened by the weirdness of the adult world (at least middle-class kids).
(Actually, I was an innocent '80s kid, but then I was always a bit out to lunch anyway... :)
In this video Ernie reminds me of a colleague of mine...

That book that Bert is reading in the beginning is the same book he is reading when Ernie plays the rhyming game.

LOL! OMG, this is too much! I don't remember this one. At first I thought Ernie had hit the caffeine bar a little too hard. :)

Relax, Bert. Just get a couple of new pieces of toast, put them in, and TURN THE SETTING DOWN!

Obviously before toasters had settings! :D

my toaster has settings and I still manage to set the smoke alarm off!

We once stayed in a motel room where whenever we made toast the super sensitive smoke alarm went off, and the toast wasn't even burnt.

I never even knew this one exsisted. Do you think it was eventually banned because of the fact they sort of made a joke over a fire?

Exactly...Ernie could've saved a lot of time and gotten to the point by yelling "Fire, Bert...FIRE!"
