  • @Piranhaboy01 Hey mate,

Do they actually die off during winter or just close up?

    Cheers

  • @MrMrSmith85 they just go into dormancy. some leaves may brown off

  • @Piranhaboy01 Ahh much thanks :)

I've had ones die in the past and just wanted to double check I didn't throw the poor little guys away while they were still alive and well.

  • So I got a little tinyer than yours, but the thing is that alot of people had probably messed with the catchers when it was in the store, making all of them close and then basically they all died. Now there is 1 large stem just sticking straight up and a few very small but alive catchers left. But it haven't fead for atleast 2-3 weeks now, is there a chance it will recover, or will ir probably die? The small catchers are way to small to eat any kind of insect.

  • @Copopit yes, it will recover as long as it's in the proper growing conditions - bright light and clean water-soaked moss

  • How do I get my Venus flytrap out of dormancy? Nothing seems to be growing.... :(

  • @AnimalKate it will stay dormant until spring. it needs that nap. patience is a virtue

  • I live in washington, where it gets pretty cold in winter. I know venus flytraps need a chill, but I never know how long they need to hibernate. All my other hibernating plants die during their dormant period, how can I take care of my little Oswald? (yes I named it, don't judge)

  • @SillyLitleGirl you could put little Oswald in the fridge for 6 weeks or so wrapped in some swaddling sphagnum moss - wet, of course. you could then keep an eye on him as he's napping to make sure he doesn't dry out in his plastic bag sleepie. the bonus is that you can also coo some affection to little Oswald all winter for extra luck until he opens his eyes in the spring... good luck

  • @Piranhaboy01 Okay. "plastic bag sleepie" was probably the cutest thing I've ever heard. :p This witer i've just had him outside, since it's cold and -very- wet in Seattle. He's doing okay but not growing or flourishing. I'll do just as you said. Thanks for the advice!

  • @SillyLitleGirl that sounds perfect anyway. don't expect anything to happen until it begins to get warmer and brighter. leave it outside and keep it wet - that'll do

  • is that as big as they get?

  • where do you get all these exotic plants from?

  • @305paintballfreak from the vids ive seen he works at a greenhouse

  • This plant usually makes a noise right?

  • i have three questions please anyone answer:

    1) dont have much sunlight.. would florecent lights due?

    2) what happens in the winter when they die temporarly or hibernate -whatever- do i still water them untill the summer?

    3) i understand that you really sholdnt use manure or anything like that.. but im puzzled because i dont have professional plant stores here where i live -egypt- can i just use beach sand? as somthing that has no nutriants or anything? or can i just use sand from a local park?

  • @islamconstitution missed your question earlier so here's some answers:

    1) very bright fluorescent lights will work. Compact fluorescents have brightest and best wavelengths.

    2) you keep them soaking wet in cold to frozen conditions all winter long. most people lose their plants by drying over winter

    3) you can use sand but if it's salty as from a beach, it'll kill them. wash the sand over and over until clean water comes out. Add some garden peat moss or better yet sphagnum

  • @Piranhaboy01

    thank you

.. i also think the company maybe screwed me over by giving me immature seeds? i read online that seeds take 5 years to mature first before being able to germenate? anyway.. mine didnt grow.. and i dont know what to do with them now..

the seeds are just lying their in the mud for some time now.. didnt even water them.. im in egypt so its kinda humid.. but.. i dont know.. im just kind depressd all over.. my pet tarantula's died off too even though i feed them.. ;'-(

  • @islamconstitution first time VFT growers should avoid seeds at all cost. they are sure to disappoint and frustrate you, leading to non-confidence in growing them. they take many years to grow large. always start with a plant first. if you want to try again, i will be setting up an e-store to make them available to my viewers once the weather warms up a bit. if you still want to try your seeds, never let them dry out... what happened to your tarantulas??

  • @Piranhaboy01

thanks again, dont know what happened to my tarantulas, i had a chelian rose, a golden knee and a blood leg.. one after the other they just started to basicly go on a hunger strike and 2 of them died in a half-molt.. i dont get it cause Egypt "alexandria" is quite humid, the weather aint that bad and I get them fresh grasshoppers like every week. Good luck with the E-store.. dont know if i will get back into the hobby but just incase.. ? could you actually send a plant to egypt?

  • @Piranhaboy01

    cont.

the reason why i ask is because i had enough trouble "smuggling" in my tarantulas but to bring in a forign plant, espcesially in BACKWARDS -for now atleast- Egypt,

the SO CALLED health ministry here doesnt google anything to find out even what it is. they just confiscate the shit.. regardless.. and/ or they ask for like 20 diffrent papers -some nonexistant- to let anything pass.. xenophobic as fuck..

    sorry for my language!

  • @islamconstitution sorry to hear about the tarantulas. i understand the issue of importing various forms of flora. that may prohibit you from getting any from online. are there local nurseries that can bring some VFT's in?

  • @Piranhaboy01

nope.. 0 i looked alll over egypt no one has them.. i was wondering they might atleast give me info on how to get a new flora into the country.. but they where no help..

im screwed in Egypt basicly :-(

  • @islamconstitution it's understandable that invasive alien species are prohibited from importation but to declare everything... we as a society seem to always reach the lowest common denominator and lump all things under one rule - it's just easier that way. keep the faith brother

  • @Piranhaboy01

will do! hehe, Egypt is in Revolutionary times now eh! hehe

hopefully things should change down the road or atleast maybe I will be back in the US.

  • i got a testicle stuck in one once. good times!

  • u know i bet u never have a bug problem in ur house. EVA!

  • to my sister i was like LOOK AT THESE THEY LOOK LIKE MINI TACOOOOSS!!! they look so cute when the are so little!

  • @puppydog304 LOL they totally do! They're so cute!

  • SUPER WATER SPRAY CANNON!!

  • Can this kind of care work with sundews as well?

  • @BlueSkyFlacon very much the same although I wouldn't spray the sundew leaves but just spray the moss surface. the 'dew' will wash off the leaves. this method will allow most carnivorous plants to flourish

  • @Piranhaboy01 Are you using peat moss below the sphagnum by any chance?

  • @BlueSkyFlacon yes, basic compressed peat moss that has been flushed clean

  • Do nepenthes care please ^.^

  • YES!

  • can water trigger the venus flytrap

  • @Coast94 not usually. look at the traps after all that watering, not one closed. they are adapted to heavy rainfalls

  • @tmack1337 no its not that strong

  • @tmack1337 nah, it just closes nothing actually happens :P

  • lol

    u almost lost ur finger

    XDD

  • when can u post more vidds on nepenthes
