  • How much did motorola pay this guy?

  • this guy comes off as a moron. "Kickstand round"? No shit the only phone with a kickstand will "win". And he can't find a flip clock? Must not have actually searched. Right off the bat I can think of 2, namely Beautiful Widgets. Very Sense-like.

  • the "in pocket detection round"? lol

  • Cant charge while using kickstand on photon

  • the photon also has a HDMI connection also the sales people at sprint also recommend the photon because it also has a a 10 hour talk time evo only has bout 6 hr talk time i would reccomend photon!! hands down

  • I have the HTC EVO 3d and my mom has the Motorola Photon .. hers is faster

  • @wirefly, bob you should condense the categories of each round to a more simple overall thing that applies to each phone, to say that the Photon wins in the pocket detection round well duh it has pocket detection, how about just saying "The Photon wins in the features round" or something like that if you were comparing a woman with big boobs to a woman with small boobs, would you say "well you do win the big boobs round"

  • @xXEl1m1n4tOrXx I don't have a script for these and I more or less take what I know about the phones and ad lib as I go along. I deliberately add things like "kickstand round" to make these funnier... not that anyone is passing out from an overdose of mirth. Thanks for the critique, though. I appreciate it.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • The evo looks better :) the other phone is kinda ugly

  • There is a problem with quadrant on the evo3d where it locks CPU at 384mhz I forced both cores at full speed to fix it and was getting 3k+

  • GUYS I NEED HELP CAN SOMEONE JUST TELL ME WHICH ONE IS BETTER AND DOES NOT MESS UP A LOT

  • Thanks Bob @wirefly I bought the Photon 4G last night and my wife picked the Evo 4G, good to know we are both going to be happy with similar phones.

  • They both are some ((4G.Monster)) Phones...Lls

  • 0:52 he almost said "Schprint" instead of Sprint. Haha

  • @GhostCowboys Here on YouTube, people report problems with every phone, from iPhones to flip phones, and we don't keep track of those reports. I've seen a few scattered reports of problems with every high-end phone, and not really more for the EVO 3D than any other. If you don't want 3D, the Photon has just about the same performance as the EVO 3D, and it's a little lighter and has global capability. It's a good choice.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Im 10 i have the photon in on it now it rox

  • Ey i have a question is the motorola photon work international??? Planing a trip to central america just wondering if it will work???

  • @TheNicoya27 Yes, the Motorola Photon will work internationally. It has a SIM slot for GSM SIMs. If the phone is unlocked, you can use any GSM SIM. If the phone is locked (to Sprint), you have to go to a Sprint store and coordinate with them regarding the countries you will be in.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Plz respond......my evo 3D has been having issues and sprint is offering me to get a photon because of my issues with my evo3D but i dont know if i should switch my evo 3D for the photon....should it??

  • @botafogo42 I'm not sure why you can't get another EVO 3D, but the Photon is a good phone. It doesn't have the fun 3D capability of the EVO 3D, but it has pretty similar performance overall. It's about as close to an even trade as you'll get on Sprint.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @botafogo42 I got the same offer from them after I had so many problems with the 3D, let me know what you ended up doing and how it turned out..

    Thanks!

  • blur lol

  • I have the photon 4g and took some videos at a couple concerts,. The Devil Makes Three, and Hank Williams 3 and like you said the video was pretty good for a cell phone but the sound was extremely top quality i thought for a cell phone. check out my videos on TheBerto840 on youtube.

  • man one of these freakin days i will have an android phone. count on it!

  • Dummy it has a 1.2 gs processor

  • the evo 3d has a 1.2 gz processor

  • Just a suggestion: could you test the Mbps speed with one off while the other tests so that there is no bandwidth sharing?

  • @snakefire78418 Yes, that's really how a download test should be done when it involves two phones on the same carrier. That's how I have done it since this test.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • The HTC EVO 3D has a 1.2 ghz dual core processor not 1.0

  • I appreciate the video but you really need someone who knows these phones better than this guy. He's nice but his lack of knowledge is very apparent.

  • @Zackb911 Well, at least you said I'm nice... I can always learn more about phones but it's impossible to make a mean person nice.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • androids usually tend to come down to interface, and manufacturing. Most anything else can be added to the phone just with a simple find and install. I spend less time on features and more time on hardware. (personal opinion) do not attack me with yours people.

  • Thanks

  • What is next to the front faceing camra on the photon 4g

  • @89Poptarts I'll look when I'm back in the office with the Photon.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @89Poptarts That's the battery charge/notification light.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • The photon 4g

  • What are the things nexts to the front faceing camra

  • @89Poptarts Which phone are you asking about?

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Schmackdown? sounds like something that would be said in a porno....

  • @thelasthallow Hey, whatever turns you on.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly not really a turn on due to the fact its a guy (you) saying it.

  • @wirefly Which phone would you prefer getting? the Photon or Evo 3D

  • @MaFiaXGaming11 Did you watch the video? I clearly discuss that in the video.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • U also forgot to mention that the photon is a world phone which can also operate on gsm networks in other countries..oh and also its hundred bucks cheaper than the evo 3d when upgrading/opening new plan..

  • @bob thanks I think I'm going with the photon...I've been doing a lot of research and it awesome...I mean who really needs a 3d phone? Thanks again...

  • Whats the difference between buying a phone from wirefly vs sprint?

  • @imafan It usually costs a lot less to buy a phone from Wirefly than it does from Sprint. Otherwise, it is exactly the same phone and the same service, for Sprint's standard monthly cost. Wirefly's big advantage is that the phone itself costs less at Wirefly.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly buyer beware! 3rd party companies may apply their own contract terms eventhough they are affiliates of Sprint; such as early termination fees etc.

  • the photon runs on motorola applications platform...not blur

  • how could it get unlocked in your pocket? 0.o

  • @roberto13v I've had phones get unlocked in my pocket several times. Once, the phone in my pocket called my home number and stayed connected for several minutes. With millions of phones in millions of pockets, odd things will eventually happen.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • beautiful widgets will get u a big clock for the photon

  • Hi Bob. Do you guys carry the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook with T-Mobile 4G?

  • @freakylocz14 No, Wirefly doesn't carry that netbook. In fact, Wirefly doesn't sell any netbooks at the moment.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • All depends what u want 3d or gaming like the photon plus world phone or a galaxy

  • Did he really say the "kick stand" round!? As if that made a difference in comparing phone specs

  • @qbsfear43 i does, i use the kick stand to watch videos and movie, and even chatting with people, it's really helpful, trust me :)

  • Lmao

  • Duke Nuke Em :) your voice

  • Great review. Love the Photon.

  • Hey guys, I am looking for a new phone, I am stuck between the EVO 3D, the photon, and the galaxy S II, any help?

  • @Rodolcort Did you see Wirefly's Schmackdown videos comparing the Epic 4G Touch with the Photon and the EVO 3D? Those should give you all the info you need.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @Rodolcort you should go with the photon, because motorola last longer, THERE better built, and look at the reviews photon always wins, and the galaxy s II wont last u long

  • @Rodolcort get tha photon!! motorola makes tha best phones. photon is a real droid phone like tha ones on verizon.

  • @wirefly i'm in india planning to buy the photon from the US.......sprint version is for 100$ unlocked is for 500$.......if i buy the sprint phone and then unlock it will it be cheaper or not.....??? please reply asap.....!!

  • @mhkthedude The Sprint version is $100... if you sign up for a 2-year contract with Sprint. Unless you have a residence and established credit in the US, no one will sell you the Photon (or any other phone) at the carrier-subsidized price. FWIW, Wirefly ships only to addresses in the US.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly i do have some relatives down there.....so i can order the sprint version......

so what do i do.....?? buy the sprint version and manually unlock it or go directly for the 500$ one....???

  • @mhkthedude Again, if you buy the Sprint version for $100, someone will have to pay the monthly rate for a 2-year contract. You won't be able to get the phone for $100 without this contract. Think about it... Sprint is not in the business of losing money by selling you a phone that costs it much more. It recovers that difference on the monthly contract. No contract, no $100 phone.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly what about an early unsubscription......??

  • @mhkthedude The companies are pretty smart about that, and have ways to get their money if you don't pay or try to get out of the contract early. And if you do somehow welsh on your agreement, that is a crime: fraud. The companies do prosecute for that.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly ok thanks.....

    so 500$ it is......

juust a question.......is it worth the price or should i go for some other model....??

  • @mhkthedude I like the Photon a lot. However, you want to use it internationally (outside the US), right? You should also look at the Samsung Galaxy S II, which I think is a little better than the Photon. Still, the Photon is an excellent phone. Only you can decide if it's worth $500.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • just switched to a photon from a crappy go phone so im sooooo confused!!!!!!!!

  • i have the photon and it is amazing

  • I need a review between Sensation and Photon it will be a Super review

  • @vip3r95 I know... you keep asking. I'm thinking about it, but it will be a day before I'm back in the office to see what is on my plate.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly Ok, Sorry

  • 3:26 "you can flip it off" I'm sorry Bob I had to say it! :) I want the photon to come to verizon! Awesome review (as usual)!

  • Thanks alot Bob, i will be very pleased if you do it, and thanks alot for your quick reply :) and if you do it please link the website below :)

  • Really good review!

  • Does anyone know how much Sub-Pixel does the photon have?

  • Hi WireFly, Im worried about 1 thing in Motorola Photon 4G, The pix elation, does it show alot or when you zoom your eyes to the device? please help me i need a response fast maybe anyone have Photon and can share the Pix elations , thanks guys :)

  • @vip3r95 There's been a lot of talk about pixelation with the Photon and other qHD phones, but I don't see it. I think the display looks very nice, and I'm a video person by background. In other words, I'm used to looking at displays critically. I think the Photon lools really good.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly Thanks For your response and id like to ask you one more question, The screen feel's plastic when you touch it or it's like the HTC Sensation or more better? thanks again

  • @vip3r95 I just fondled the Photon I have and the screen does not have a plasticky feel. One of my co-workers has my Sensation at the moment, so I walked to his desk to find that he is out. Therefore, I couldn't directly compare. However, the Photon's screen has exactly the same feel as the HTC EVO 3D.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly Thanks alot :) so it's smooth like iPhone 4? and last question when you can please make a review between the sensation and the photon when you can, thanks alot :) and how much you rate the photon out of 10? and which is better as a CPU 1.2ghz dual core snapdragon or 1ghz dual core tegra 2?

  • @vip3r95 I'm embarrassed to say that I don't pay much attention to the type of processor. I may have to start, because the Samsung Exynos seems monstrously fast. Yes, the Photon is as smooth as an iPhone. I can't promise a Schmackdown between the Photon and the Sensation, but it's a possibility.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly Bob please help me, This Phone need's to be unlocked to work in other GSM network in Vodafone-Malta? I heard that the Photon comes unlocked in the factory (stock) or you need to check a photon Unlocked? please reply soon as possible i need to order one before purchasing but i need to be sure about this b4

  • @vip3r95 The way it works with the Sprint version of the Photon is that the phone is locked to Sprint. To use it internationally, you have to go to a Sprint store and they will activate the SIM to work in the countries where you plan to go. Of course, if you get an unlocked version (or unlock one that you get from Sprint), then you can use any GSM SIM at your convenience. That's my understanding of how it works.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly But i live in Malta, and I'm gonna buy 1 from Ebay so I'm a bit worried about that,

  • @wirefly So if the phone isn't locked to Sprint than the phone can work or you need to unlock it, Sorry for the border :(

  • @vip3r95 If it is a phone that was bought for Sprint in the US, it will need to be unlocked before you can use it. Google "motorola photon unlock codes" and see what turns up. You can probably buy the unlock codes, but I don't know where or for how much.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • i still am all the way with the evo 3d. it looks great and has much more to offer then the crap moto blur. the photon reminds me of a mix between the galaxy s1 and the old htc hero which equals shit. I also dont understand the sudden hype over 3D, its been around forever and now people want it moble?

  • I like 3D, but too bad i can only share with another 3D device!!

  • @frankjaker You can easily convert 3D images to 2D images, and I have a video that shows how. But the 2D image doesn't have the fun factor of the original 3D image.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Does the indicator for being in your pocket turn off the screen at night? Because I would imagine it working because of how much light there is

  • @anniemary1234 I assume the pocket sensor senses proximity and not light, but I really don't know for sure. The phone should hibernate after a couple of minutes, depending on how you have it set... it won't keep the screen on overnight.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • I have been considering switching to Sprint for the unlimited data, but I have been hearing that since Sprint runs at 2.5Ghz, the 4G signal drops drastically indoors, and if you are in a solid brick building the 4G is non existent. I have seen countless claims of their 4G not working in doors, have you found this to be true?

  • @googleaskyahoodogpil My desk at Wirefly is indoors and it is a brick building. I am not right next to a window... in fact I'm at the farthese end of a row from a window. I get good Sprint 4G connectivity at my desk.

A couple days ago, at my desk, I did a 4G speed test between the DROID Bionic (Verizon LTE) and the Samsung Epic 4G Touch (Sprint WiMax). Sprint clobbered Verizon. I only ran that one test and used it in a video.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @googleaskyahoodogpil that is something that weakens all wireless signals even Wifi suffers when your in a Brick walled building. Im in an old Pre war building and its all bricks and concrete I get 4g and 3g. This phone has the best Radio antenna in Sprints lineup

  • Hey Mr. Review... I went to sprint store, compared both phones and i immediately noticed photon had pixelated screen or as its called pentile screen... i would see little blurish squares and it would come in waves as if the screen was breathing out blurry pixels lmao... wtf is that??? I compared them both on youtube videos and browsing, evo3d looked way cleaner and better.. i wanted photon but now im leaning on evo or galaxy s2

  • @teoatl I've not seen anything like that on a Photon, and I've used it quite a bit. Different eyes perceive things differently, however. You might want to try looking at a different Photon, just in case that one had an issue.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • You should try fancy widgets for your photon bob

  • heard of phonedog? that guy love to drag on time talking about himself. great job man like the review if its possible shorten up the time a little more.

  • @gaivoron Yeah., I've heard of PhoneDog and think they do a good job. Keeping these reviews short is a full-time job, but I keep trying. Thanks for the nice comment!

    Bob at Wirefly

  • there is a lot of important information you left out. call quality, battery life, the texting. but besides that it was a good review.

  • I always put a different launcher on my phone as soon as I get it. I'm not impressed with either Motor Blur or Sense. The Photon's 16 gig memory is a selling point for me. I'll use my sd card from my old Evo 4G for an extra bump of memory.

  • First u could buy a case that has a kick stand, next if u a true android fan then u know HTC makes the best phones cause u do more customization to it which u are limited to Motorola's crapping Widgets that u can't change, trust me don't get anything but HTC if u want an android phone to have fun with...I could change anything from my dialer to my whole natural look with my 3D

  • is the motorola ph. avaliable in Europe.plz Aswr??

  • @mergrimful I don't know if the Photon is available in Europe. You should check with a European cellular vendor.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • the 16gig internal memory is enough for me to declare the photon the winner ..

  • So i was gonna get the evo 3d but after doing hrs of research on both devices i ended up getting the photon 4g and i do no regret it the phone does not disappoint!

  • I need to watch more of these cause listening to the comparisons sounds like the photon won. But wirefly sells both so they call it a tie so EVO 3D customers don't feel short changed? Why not video playback clips see who's resolution is better?

  • evo is any day better than the mortola photon

  • dude thats the first time that I watch a video of 17 mins without jumping parts.

  • @soladetenis I guess you liked it... thanks for sticking with it!

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly omg also mine... dint noticed that the video was of almost 18 mins...

btw im thinking to buy the atrix or the photon...

i liked the most the atrix becouse its kinda smaller than the photon(i need a phone that doesnt be too big)... but the photon its better in all the aspects...

    what one do u recomend?

  • @TheNecromancer077 The Atrix is a pretty nice phone. I have to admit that I like the larger display of the Photon, and the Photon just seems more "elegant" somehow. I guess I prefer the Photon.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • The EVO 3d has a1.2 ghz dual core CPU not 1ghz!

  • The photon destroyed the evo in internet speed....

  • Oh. The latest brain cookers, huh?

    Great.

  • I've had'em both and ended up returning both...coming from an AT&T iPhone the 3D felt like a brick in my pocket, why do I need a larger screen I am one of those who don't sit around watching whole movies on a phone's screen and the 3D is cool but definitely something I can do without.

The Photon? simple put, fanciest phone I ever had, great hardware but it could use the Evo 3D's software.

I ended up using an evo 4G which is not as fancy but works alright and is not the size of a house phone.

  • Yeahhh evo 3d has me sold!

    Getting it on Friday! ;D

  • hey man just saying there is going to be a quad core tablet in 2012.

  • This video it a bunch of bull i mean rly a kickstand round the evo 3d dosent have one if you are gonna be like that y not give a 3d round because the photon dose not have 3d and even if you dont give a 3d round how does the photon win the cam round IT HAS A 3D CAM!!!!!!

  • @THEBEASTMODERS13 I thought I did have a "3D round." And yes... the EVO 3D would have wiped with floor with the Photon in the 3D round.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @THEBEASTMODERS13 it has a 3D cam that IS SHIT, AND a drain on battery, not to mention the 3d means absolutely dick when you can't upload them or send them to other phones unless it has 3d. it also causes eyestrain. so it loses the cam round.

  • @KingRashidsWorldTv The Evo 3D is awesome. The 3D cam is great. The 3D photos and videos are great. The battery is great. My girlfriend or myself never get eye strain. Sense is smooth as butter. The Photon not only looks ugly, but has a crap UI, blueish whites, no 3D (which is great and I use all the time), and doesn't have as responsive of a touchscreen as the Evo 3D as you can see at 11:32. I'm sorry you got the crap phone and can't exchange it.

  • Please stop shaking your fists. You look like a supreme tool.

  • no bob! the photon is the better PHONE. it wins.

  • HTC Evo 3D actually has "in pocket detection" built in. It actually rings louder when in pocket. HTC Sense Feature.

  • The Photon in my opinion is much better than the EVO 3D. Motorola phones have the best wireless radios and the EVO 3D gives me nasty headaches. We'll see how the EVO compares to the LG Thrill 4G because I got hugely spoiled by the 3D because it was way better. Plus, I didn't get a headache.

  • I'm not sure about the evo, but I have the thunderbolt, and it has an in-pocket detection, but instead of locking it, it boosts the volume level, which can be just as, if not more, useful, so there's that.

  • I THINK YOU IN LOVE WITH PAMELA

  • U should compare htc evo 4g vs photon 4g

  • the photon is just the evo 4g with motorola. there are very few differences

  • I just bought the photon and found your video to be a big help. Didn't know about the pocket off thing. You didn't mention one big fact though. It's a world phone so travelers greatly benefit. Thanks for taking the time to get us up to speed here you guru u

  • @queenmarciatrixi You're right, the global feature of the Photon is significant. It's a good thing that Sprint is getting some high-end phones with this feature.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly if i buy this can i put a sim card from my country in it will it work?

  • @shairki If you buy "this"...? The Motorola Photon? The Photon is "locked" to Sprint, so you would have to unlock it first. That will almost certainly cost money. But yes... when it's unlocked, there's a very good chance it will work in your country for 2g or 3G data service. It will not work for 4G, because your country probably doesn't use WiMax.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly

I love smart and very simple phones.

    WHAT IS BETTER FOR ME?

im not good at technology really...

  • @AndresNavaChannel Both these phones (Motorola Photon and HTC EVO 3D) are very nice, but they are a little on the complex side. If you want simple, the Samsung Conquer is the only one I can think of for Sprint. A better choice might be the Samsung Epic 4G. Otherwise, you might grow into either the Photon or EVO 3D... they really are both terrific.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • seriously annoying that the camera shutter sound cannot be silenced on the Photon. The pictures are also subpar for a so-called 8mp lens. Why is it that the higher the pixels, the worse these phone cameras become (seemingly)?

My Evo 4g Camera is SUPREMELY good in the sun, but blooooows in low light, and even with flash ( i get it, camera phones don't have the necessary power to capture what a 'real' camera would). You'd think these things would get bette with each phone. Photon disappoints.

  • bob, where can i get the unlock code for the photon? please answer

  • @MrBOOTYGUARD671 You may be able to buy the unlock code from Sprint. Also, try doing a Google search for "unlock code for motorola photon". Once you have the code, unlocking the phone is easy and safe. However, getting the code will cost you money... no one gives away that information.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Can i unlock my Photon

  • @Bulletboyebk If you have the unlock code, you can unlock the Photon. You could then use the GSM radio with any GSM carrier that uses the same frequencies.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @MrBOOTYGUARD671

Yes, its rooted, and yes its overclocked to 1.6 Ghz. (1.8 is the max stable). But this is part of having a EVO device. The customization... (A EVO 4G owner before the 3VO)

  • i want da Motorola Photon 4G ;)

  • i54.tinypic . com/1j81hu.png

Lets see your motorola crapton pull out that quadrant score.

They way the dual cores are functioning are different. But when the EVO 3D dual core is forced to be a dual core all the time, you get that.

  • @zander145 if your getting that on a evo 3d your definitely rooted and either have your phone overclocked or running some kind of rom, my friend went through 3 evo 3ds and none of them went over 1900 on stock..noob

  • HTC phones arent very shock resistant. they are always breaking. I'd go with the Motorola Photon

  • Aww yeah (: I'm getting my htc evo 3d on thursday :D

  • photon battery sucks real bad, i need to buy a spare battery just to match the iphone

  • you sound somewhat like adam west..

  • the in pocket detection is just for that phone.i have android 2.3.5 on my low end huawei ascend from cricKet and do not have that option

  • WHICH PHONE IS BETTER FOR ENTERTAINMENT PERIOD? E.G. GAMES, INTERNET, FUN TO USE, ETC.... PLEASE ANSWER ?????

  • @TheBranthony

iphone... the android market sucks! where are all the big 3D games?

  • @TheBranthony EVO

  • Your opinion is bias. You tends to favor Motorola..idk, but it sounds you make Motorola is a better phone.

  • Sprint has been working for a week on their 3g and 4g and their 3g is now hovering over 1 MB ;)

  • how much money do they cost ??

  • @mergrimful These two phones? You should go to Wirefly and check, as prices change all the time.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • This review is crap, kickstand round wtf!, its like comparing apples and oranges. I have both phones and there's always something that I love more than what the other has.

  • OMG, you're shaking your fists. I can't bear this. You're trying way too hard, to the point where it distracts from the content (the whole point I am watching the video).

  • the word "schmackdown" makes me feel sick in the stomach. please rebrand.

  • @IrSpock I'm pretty sure that we're sold on continuing the use of the term "Schmackdown." Sorry to hear that you don't like it, but we think it's fun.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • I just bought the photon on Monday and I have the evo 4g as well believe me or not but the evo 4g has a longer lasting battery the photon last about half a day im upset in that. Another thing is the camera quality is not as good as the evo 4g . I test both phones on speed and the photon is way quicker phone on the network and in general, it's a fun phone. Do recommend though..

  • @HIFONICSM3

ARe you talking about the Normal EVO. Because I need a new phone and I am thinking of the EVO. The EVO 3d seems like a waste .

  • @Joeybsmooth get the evo 3d cause it has android 2.3 and sense 3.0 and who cares if it has 3d just dont use it.
