Why do we pretend that Kirk Hammet is anything more than a marginal guitarist who has no concept about how to dial in a proper sound and is completely ignorant about controlling string noise? Kirk Hammett is a terrible guitarist. He is slow compared to most shredders, he is sloppy which is evident by most live performances and he doesn't know how to dial in a good sound. If you would only understand what it takes to come up with emotion-filled yet fast paced solos like the ones in The Unforgiven, Ride The Lightning, Leper Messiah, you would shut that hole of yours and think before speaking. Paul Gilbert is fast, I give him that. Broderick destroys Gilbert, MichaelAngelo Batio describes both, but Hammett annihilates all since he ain't all speed. Sure, he can't shred or sweep like they can, but he can compose.

Broderick being better is laughable. Gilbert has been playing around 15 years longer than Broderick has and taught buckethead. That's not to say that Broderick isn't great. However he's still new. MAB is clearly faster and more accurate but not nearly as complex than Gilbert.

Hammett is a laughable guitarist compared to even the most average metal band in modern days. I'll forgive your blind fanboyism.

If I was Kirk I would be soooooo embarrassed. This is TERRIBLE.  Fast playing doesn't mean shit... there has to be some sort of rhythm, and a good lead guitarist shouldn't need someone playing behind them to sound good. Still, I think Trujillo found a way to stoop to a whole new level of crappy playing. I mean I love Metallica, but what the hell was that shit? Someone better start building a time machine, because these guys are in desperate need of a Cliff Burton.
