Dothan, Alabama was the place of my birth and I still live near there, close to Ft. Rucker. I've traveled to places in Canada, Europe, the Middle East as well as India and most of the places i've been are interesting from a cultural and historic perspective but I've always been glad to come home again. I was never affiliated with the military although I do support our troops in their endeavors. Incidentally, I'm totally insouciant when it comes to the opinions of those who live elsewhere.
what a beautiful song and so proud they are from my home state as well. I no longer live there but visit as much as I can. It is a shame some people on you tube make fun of us from Alabama. My sister put on her profile she is from Alabama and there is two especially mean women on here called onelassstime and her friend from Australia named carelesslove46 who constantly call us backwoods hillbillies, inbred and moonshine drinkers and racists! they need our prayers, they are pathetic!
A nice hello from Europe.Alabamas music history is a big part of my life.We need to take back the down to earth way of living. We have lost respect for the ground and earth that feeds us all.
@cvte2 Well, I'm from Austraila, and I say: who are we to call OTHER people "backwoods hillbillies"? I apologize for my compatriot. Go Alabama! Home of Hank Williams and the Louvin Brothers.
@cvte2 I'm from Alabama and live in Australia and yes, they can be a racist bunch. Sometimes though, they're just "pulling the piss" which means they're just joking and winding one up. Sometimes.
@cvte2: I've never been to Alabama, but I was raised in VA and heard so much good about Alabama from friends that had visited. People there are as genuine and happy as people can be. And as for racist stuff, well Governor Wallace had a huge change of heart and spoke freely of the err of his ways as Governor, which helped others there change their hearts for the better too.
The Louvin Brothers were so awesome.I love the music of the Louvin Brothers who were from Alabama...and by the way, I am from Alabama, too and still live there. This should be one of our state's official songs if it is not already.
Re: comment to me from soothsayer0 concerning my comment above, stating the fact that the foreign born Camila replaced the native Goldenrod as the Al. state flower several years ago, and I think it is a shame--a state flower, bird, etc. should represent one that is native ti the area, And, for that, he called me a racist???? Strange........
One of my favorites; I remember it playing on the radio as I was going to sleepat night as a child. And, I feel the same about this beautiful state; my home state! (His mention of the beautiful goldenrod, a wildflower that blooms everywhere in late Summer-Fall. It used to be the state flower, but several years ago some Camila growers managed to have it removed in favor of the Camila, which came here from China!)
This is one of the Louvin Brothers' greatest songs ever. Bless you for putting this up there---It makes me homesick for a state I've only been in about three times in my life.
Just mentioned these people to my dad and found out that they are my aunts ex husbands close relatives and were from not far from where I live.
