Do you use any medium to thin the paints on the palette? And, how do you prevent the colors from combining and creating a new color on the palette? For example, when you're blending the yellow and red how do you keep it from turning green around the edges?
I'm not sure I totally understand. Yellow and red would normally make orange. Normally, I don't thin the paints down unless I need a thinner paint to put on top of thick paint. You need very thick paints for this technique to work. The thicker paints create a strong tacky surface for the thinner highlight colors to stick to. I do, however, prepare the canvas with Magic White (or sometimes a clear medium). Magic White creates an ideal surface for blending color directly on the canvas.
