I think dirk left at the right time, best to leave after the climax of their fame. Glad their still going for our sake. It's hard living without incubus.
ON THE CONTRARY!!! i saw them live this past summer and they did Redefine and Ben slapped...played just as well s dirk...it was fascinating...even did his solo! =)
Shame they don't play the younger more crazed bass tunes, probably because Ben can't probably slap or do octave jumps as fast as Dirk's speed. Like the end of Redefine for sure.
@TigerTaint Of course he does, that's why they play songs like "A Certain Shade of Green" and "New Skin" completely different, and not as good. Dirk was Incubus' backbone, now all they do is moan about their feelings on every song.
@Inthedeadofknight Dirk was an amazing bassist but he was definitely not the backbone of the band. If anything he hindered a lot of their progression. You can see in interviews that he just does not fit in with the mentality that Brandon and the rest have. Also Mike wrote many, many of the basslines that he apparently "owns". Maybe it's praxis not theory but I think it does matter.
@Lotrfan99 I saw Incubus last summer at the Mile High Music Festival and I could've swore was watching Maroon 5 play Incubus songs because of how soft they were. All Brandon did was moan on the mic like he was making love to it, and half of the set was acoustic. They don't rock anymore. By backbone I meant he was the balls and what gave their songs power.
@Lotrfan99 If Mike actually wrote all of the basslines you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the songs they wrote with Dirk and the songs they wrote with Ben so easily. Maybe it's because I play bass, but you honestly can't tell how much softer ACLOTM and Light Grenades are compared to the other albums?
those were the days! fantastic video, i wish i could say i saw a live performance when dirk was still in the band. i dont think ben kenney can even play a song like glass live
i think there was supposed to be one and they just never used it...instead just for the nice to know you and circles music videos. best guess from me....
your incubus vids are amazing, especially the bakersfield ones! I'm a hardcore Incubus fan and would kill to have this on dvd! Please upload this thing to Dimeadozen or somewhere as a torrent if you actually have the dvd of this! Jose Pasillas, Dirk Lance, Mike Einziger and Brandon Boyd make a wonderful band i tell ya

I'm tired of comparing Dirk and Ben.
Let's just say that Dirk was perfect for them back then and Ben is perfect for them today.

and you can easily notice this by watching "Are you in" video.
man, I can't explain..but the way he plays... Ben will never do it!
he is FREAKING good, but will never be Dirk.
anyway, best band ever.
I think my life wouldn't be the same without them.. Dirk or Ben, I'll always love them :)

The thing is that Dirk and Ben are two different musicians!
Ben is an amazing bassist, I love everything he did with Incubus till now..
But don't you dare comparing him with Dirk.
He can play the old songs.. but Dirk had the "feeling", he OWNS those songs,
and nobody will never play them as good as he used to do.

I wonder why?
