  • And now he's in prison for the next 10 years.

  • That year was a horrible draft year for the Colts. No outstanding players. Also, the pick right after Schlichter: Jim McMahon. A little better management, and the Colts could've made that draft a pretty good one.

  • hey art,gimmee the over.

  • he was a bust cause of the horrible shorts

  • I've got to admit, I've got some real respect for this guy, making himself available and willing to talk about how bad he messed up his NFL career and with his gambling problem. Takes a real man to admit to his faults and errors, and on camera at that. Got to respect that.

  • @utewbing

You know, he just got put away again for fraud. I have no respect for him or any other guy who can't stop committing crime. Art isn't just a compulsive gambler, he's also a seasoned felon of countless crimes.

  • "I think the big difference for me was I came from a college team that was a running team & we passed out of necessity, so, I was behind, knowledge-wise, when I went to the NFL.".

Kinda sounds like Tim Couch, according to most people.; I don't think so, though, personally. (**Watch Part 5 & see what Mike Pagel had to say about him after it shows the part where Tim Couch gets drafted.**.).

  • lol, a "regular normal gambler"....talk about self delusion.

  • 3:06.; Frank Filchock & who else?

  • I think he should be up there with Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus Russell of big time draft busts. Also surprise Pagel started instead of Schlichter beginning of the 1982 season.

  • frank...kush? :)

  • "I think the big difference for me was I came from a college team that was a running team, and we passed out of necessity. So, I was behind knowledge-wise when I went to the NFL."

Sounds like someone who's career ends in college.

Did Baltimore's GM/owner not do ANY research? How could you not know this going into the draft? WHY would you take this guy #1? So stupid I can't even find anything to compare it to. Shame on the Colts' GM who decided to make that pick.. fucking stupid asshole.

  • @modestmou5e --absolutely right. Those Colt teams in early 80s under Bob Irsay were that bad. Schlichter should be little higher than the no 7 bust

  • @modestmou5e They took him fourth overall, and to put that in context... At the time, most college teams were still option and run-oriented because the spread was still seen as a novelty offense and the mentality was that it's easier to find a workhorse RB then a great QB. It was common to take QBs from run-first teams and then begin converting them to the pro game. It was a dumb process for sure, but it's still pretty hit and miss now :P

  • All u commenters r fukkin dumb

  • omg are you kidding me with thos shorts

  • what is it with the colts and the number 18 for their QB's lol

  • @kday1131 Maybe because they think no one will measure up to 19.

  • An addiction is an illness...Like stomach cancer is an illness of the intestines...and aids is an illness of the immune system....Addiction is an illness of the brain...The brain is just an organ like all the other organs...Belief that "willpower" and "character" can overcome an illness is medieval superstition....

  • @ShareTheMike

You are missing something in your comments. Cancer can lay dormant in your body and never affect you. Cancer can can also be accelerated by YOUR BEHAVIOR. People can be infected with HIV from a blood transfusion. But also people can become infected with HIV/AIDS from their BEHAVIOR. There are people with a genetic predisposition to Alzheimers. Some of those people because of THEIR BEHAVIOR will trigger the disease. Your simplification of his "addiction" is medieval also.

  • @drbayoms ...And your behavior is caused by that piece of meat between your ears called your brain....There is no part of YOU that is not part your body...If your brain is ill what part of you will overcome that illness?...

  • @ShareTheMike

In a cowards fashion you are talking in circles. If you are suggesting that his reckless behavior is due to an underlying brain "illness". You must first address to everyone why is it SOME people born with a genetic predisposition to cancer NEVER develop it? You used cancer as an example. Conversely that would mean there are people walking around with a "brain illness" that never, ever become addicted to anything, right?

  • @ShareTheMike

Feel sorry for the person who develops cancer through no fault of their own. Pray for the idiot who smoked 2 packs a day, sucked down Zingers and ate butter like it was about to be banned by the Government. Because those things can trigger cancer. There is a difference.

  • Gambling addiction I feel is part of a larger psychological problem.

  • And he is up for a ten year stint in prison!! AGAIN!

  • Not even close pronunciation of the name. Makes my German heritage cringe.

  • Having a compulsion to gambling is no different to drinking or drugs. It's the same pattern of abuse and same spiral downward.

  • The 80's were great. Poor Schlichter. I would make a bet to Mr.Schlichter that Green Bay would win this years Superbowl.

  • @xxpandamidknightxx You lose

  • @normanjablonski Yeah, thanks to the Giants or jynx! Oh well, there is always next year.

  • He may have been a draft bust, but at least he turned out to be a semi-decent human being

  • Who likes short shorts? Schlichter likes short shorts!

  • 0:54 lol.... Those shorts...

  • Todd Marinovich just STUNK could not play---the fact that first off he was drafted to the Raiders n they gave him the #12 he's a southpaw which was BLASTPHOMOUS to Ken Stabler which he NEVER was nor would ever be! Second he did not wanna be there he was playin for his pops and now where is he?!

  • @muntzman4sho Prison.

  • Considering what made him a draft bust, Art has no business being on this list---at least not over Todd Marinovich! This list should be primarily on performance period, Art is a bust cause of his gambling, it sucks but it's not a reason for him being a bust!

  • And to think the Colts traded Bert Jones so this guy could start...

  • They need to do this kind of ban regarding steroids.

  • Schlichter has had so many chances to turn around his life. His most recent bust was a fake ticket scam at the last Super Bowl. Sad.

  • Nobody could win under Bob Irsay regardless. He ran his team to make more money off of a loser than a winner.

  • nobody ever taught him any discipline

  • What a Dumbass

  • 3:29 Matt Ryan to the Jets? I wish...

  • Frank Kush was a psycho coach who scared off Elway and probably drove Art towards insanity.

  • who is better pagel or manning? they both wore 18

  • @machiiniiima

I didn't really see much out of Mike Pagel.; I was born in 1989 & he retired when I was about 4-and-a-half years old, or, so, but, from where I'm sittin', Peyton Manning's got my vote.

  • @tthomaselli2 of course

  • Sadly he's back in for 10 years in prison for his involvement in a million-dollar ticket scam. guess that program of his didnt help. A felon 20 times over. wow.

  • he should have been named art shyster.

  • The shorts in the training camp footage were disturbing (too much exposed man thigh). Thank God I wasn't eating.

  • His gambling addiction was probably a symptom of some larger unresolved issue...

  • did you play in the c f l for a while i think it was with the ottawa roughriders

  • WHY THE FUCK DO MILLIONAIRES GAMBLE???????????????????????? THEY ARE ALREADY RICH!!! GEEZ LAWEEZ SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST DUMB

  • And just a month ago, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for fraud. Guess he didn't straighten things out

  • this guys was a bust pete rose a god, mlb you can forgive the hit god for one mistake. pete rose HOF

  • Whats with those shorts lol

  • For some reason when art says "thumb in there" at 42secs it made me laugh.

  • Is Tim Tebow #1???

  • @bm4nu Why would Tim Tebow be number 1? He's only played like 4 games and he played pretty well when he was playing.

  • @BarackSays I would think the fact that the Broncos used their first round draft pick to aquire a 3rd string QB would be somewhat disappointing,

  • @bm4nu Not the first time they've done it. See: Tommy Maddox.

  • those are horrible shorts!

  • ME: "Mr. Schlichter, I'll bet you $1,000 that you can never overcome your gambling problem."

    ART SCHLICHTER: "Okay, you're on."

    ME: "You lose!"

    LOLROF!!!

  • @danning1 good luck collecting

  • Wait...your telling me a guy that went to Ohio State has broken some LAWS???? NO fucking way!!!!!

  • pussy..........flop........bitch

  • @TheLastMonarch So we are thinking of illness more in the mental illness sense, rather than the disease sense.

  • @TheLastMonarch I'll go for that definition.

  • Gambling is a sickness. It's another form of addiction, which like it or not, IS A SICKNESS!!!!

  • @demonchildking Blow me.

  • @demonchildking How is gambling a disease? There is no virus, no metastized cells, no bacteria, no fungi, no prion, there is no virulence vector of any kind. The addiction, albeit destructive, is purely psychological, there isn't even a physical component like cocaine or heroine addiction has.

  • i never even heard of this guy before

  • @luxy009 He's only one of the most famous flops in NFL history.

  • @xrt199 he's an osu qb they should have known better

  • @luxy009 That's funny because it's true. Hahahaha.

  • Read his book to see how seriously he even took showing up to training camp he was a disaster I would say read the book to see how he overcame his gambling problem but we know now thats a lie.

  • Let's make something very clear, AIDS is a sickness, cancer is a sickness, habitual gambling is not a sickness. To say that gambling is a sickness is an insult to those who truly are ill. Nobody put a gun to his head at OSU and said that he had no choice but to gamble. His gambling had to do with the fact that he made very poor choices in his life and he's trying to gain sympathy for it. He has no one else to blame but himself. I don't feel anything for him, and everything he did, he deserved.

  • @cityhawk You can get a serious gambling addiction.

  • @cityhawk Addiction is a sickness. I don't see him trying to gain sympathy in this video, he's being honest and talking about how he's trying to make up for his past mistakes.

  • @cityhawk not is not a sickness. a sickiness is something you cannot help. gambling is just poor decisions and an addiction. I dont feel sorry for any of them drug addicts.

  • @TheShootTruth10 i hate you

  • @cityhawk

AIDS and cancer are physical sicknesses. A gambling addiction is a mental sickness, just like alcoholism, animal cruelty or child abuse, etc.

  • @JeriousGreenwood i dont get why we should have sympathy for alcoholics though they started doing it and they should be resposible to stop

  • @cityhawk Compulsive gambling is clearly a disease for some...You have no clue how gambling consumes some peoples lives. I suggest you attend a gamblers anonymous meeting and see first hand how sick these people are.It's.No different from alcoholism which is also a disease and hereditary. You don't put yourself through hell like Art did without being mentally ill. This man CANNOT help himself.

  • @cityhawk addiction is a disease

  • @cityhawk i agree 100%, but "addiction" is a sickness. addiction can be to anything, drugs, food and even gambling. i was once addicted to opiates, but have been clean since seeking help and even though i'm in treatment, i could still relapse, as could anyone dealing with addiction. that urge will always remain.

  • @cityhawk you're such an arsehole. no one is saying he couldn't have prevented it, no one is saying it's like "cancer" or "AIDS", but it's still a real problem that people need help with.

  • @cityhawk A better term may be Obsessive Compulsive Behavior. Everyone has their vice.

  • @cityhawk Amen! Thanks for having the guts to say it. Schlichter is a shyster. A few months ago, a judge sentenced this creep to 10 years in prison for fraud. This confirms that everything he said on this program was said to garner sympathy. He's never been repentant for what he's done, and continues to lie, cheat, and manipulate others for his own gain. And the bleeding hearts who feel sorry for him are the very suckers he preys upon. This jerk is pathetic and deserves no sympathy.

  • @cityhawk By that logic any addiction is not a sickness. Being addicted to gambling is similar to being addicted to drugs. It is a propagation of a mental disorder. Nobody wants to become a heroin addict, or a degenerate gambler. Do you think somebody in their right mind would have been jailed 44 times just out of 'poor choices'?. His behaviour is the same a junkie. Granted its something difficult to be sympathetic towards, but it is a sign of a mental illness.

  • @TeifiValley123 Not necessarily drugs force your body to crave it and gambling doesn't

  • @110superdude Granted, that is a difference but if gambling was not some kind of illness (or at least a side effect of one), you wouldn't have specialist hospital wards set specifically for problem gambling. It probably took took 44 of those different jails for Schlichter to accept he had a problem. I think someone who is that deluded over something so harmful to their life must be mentally ill. At least he's trying to do something constructive now.

  • @cityhawk atleast he admitted that he messed up and takes all that blame and is trying to help other people, u cant for much more then that

  • @cityhawk well gambling's an addiction he never called it a sickness he's bringing to light gambling addiction problems which unless ya have ever known someone personally who had the addiction or experienced it yourself won't understand how much it really can ruin a persons life . i wouldn't call it a sickness and i don't sympathize with him too much like you said but all in all it is an addiction

  • @cityhawk so you have a PHD in psychology that quantifies you're personal assessment of a gambling addiction? so when an elderly person goes in to buy some groceries with their social security check, and are inudated with 85 various types of scratch tickets telling them they could be instant millionares, that's not a subliminal and mind fuck by the lottery to play on their emotions? and the kicker is they all have on their lotto machines, call 1-800-get help for their addiction! it's a disease.

  • @cityhawk You don't understand how addiction works

  • Nevermind, I get it. LOL

  • @TheLastMonarch I'm confused with what you're saying.

  • This guy is a geek !!!!

  • in the early 80s, there was huge FAIL for the QB position for the Colts. Art Schlichter = FAIL. Drafting John Elway and him wanting to be traded = FAIL

  • @MisterConan90

When you think about it......the Colts could've drafted Marcus Allen in '82 and Elway in '83. With Allen on the Colts roster......that may have persuaded John to stay in Baltimore and there's no telling how well they would fared in the '80s. And their move to Indianapolis probably wouldn't have happened.

  • 44 DIFFERENT PRISONS?! WOW!

  • It's just funny how the colts thought this guy who came from a wishbone, wild-cat like offense in Ohio was gonna single-handedly save the franchise. I AGREE his gambling prevented him from being @ least a SOLID NFL QB but keep shit in prospective. This was a team that was BAD in every facet and was in the stages of being KICKED OUT by their own city prior to Schlichter being drafted. He was in NO WAY shape or form gonna help that team compete, not by himself anyway.

  • Wow, I feel for the guy. He really has a sickness.

  • The latest news is that Schlichter is under investigation for running yet another business scamto finance his gambling. I wonder what the betting line is on whether he's going to be behind bars at this time next year- and how many years he's going to do this time.

If you see Art,keep a good grip on your wallet.
