Gray has never had anywhere near the following he deserves. He is a BRILIANT songwriter, a fantastic voice -- and a really fine performer. I saw him i Oakland, CA in Dec. 2007 with K.T. Tunstall -- she was good, but he opened for her and BLEW HER AWAY. I had no idea how strong a performer he is!

Could someone enlighten a non-musician? Does David write all of his own music? He is playing with a band live and his music obviously incorporates all types of instruments but how does a single person write music for several types of instruments? Not that other instruments are producing very complex sounds but still.

Typically artists write for a single instrument (if any). For David Gray, that appears to be guitar. Most likely he wrote the song on guitar and had a vision for other sounds going on in the song. Most likely he got together with his producer and some band mates and experimented with some sounds until it felt right.

In short, I doubt he physically wrote every instrument. More so he had an idea of what it would sound like and jammed with his bandmates.

I believe it is a play on words. Babylon is from the story in the bible where (and a place) but it has relevance because that is where God jumbled the speech of all people so that they could not speak the same language. David Grey is creative. I am not saying anything about his beliefs I will agree that is sounds like "babble on" is a play on words with Babylon the place.
