  • Ummmm, eh? Thats an American HILL BILLY accent.... There is also the northern accent (which we consider no accent), the Jersey accent, the New york accent, Californian accent, Southern accent (much like the one you did), Wisconsin accent, Minnesotan accent, ~many many more! Usually British people tend to try and copy our Northern plain accent or our California valley-girl accent

  • I'm not fond of the American accent but the rest of it is good ^_^

  • hello :) I almost watched all of your videos now and found them very helpful. I had 3 years japanese classes but it's been already two years since then and I want to pick up my studies now. Does anyone know a good learning book for the N5/N4 level ? I want to work on the basic stuff again before I try more advanced japanese :)

  • 2級ってかなり、難しいんじゃないかな。頑張って~

  • я бы вдул!

  • ほんとはありがとう!:)

  • @tehsilentsoul lol i know u wrote this comment 3 months ago but omg that just had me cracking up becuz i checked it and its true...

  • I plan on taking the JLPT 5 so I can get certification to show people that I have skill in Japanese so I can have a better chance of getting a translation job.

  • @Debatetime Why would you do that? JLPT N5 is just beginner stage. It's worse than a 3 year old's Japanese. People won't hire you. You should go for N1 or don't at all. In fact, I don't know why people take the JLPT if they're not fluent yet.

  • When you did an american accent... i was dumbfounded.

Because, you speak in an American/Canadian accent.. So..

Thats why there's so many periods in this....

    It shows my confusion.

  • 前から思うけど、外人さんは話す時、よくそんな息が続くなと感心する

    やっぱり、発音とかの仕方とかで鼻から呼吸するようになるからなんかな

  • Nhongo! Nihongo! Nihongo! amerika jin janeeyo...

    Canadanian diba?

  • Kanzen Master series was the way to go for me. I passed 1級 last July. Also the kanji cards from rabbit press were really good. And on top of all of that I was reading novels. Good luck studying!

  • What I wanted to say was that this is not my only reason anymore. To get better at talking I met up with a Japanese tandem partner. And as it happened to be he's now my fiancée^^ So while he's diong his best for the German certificate, I want to do my best too at the JLPT.

  • Americans don't sound like that ;~;

  • Ever heard of 'Japanese for Busy People'? わかりますか? Also the Genki series is not bad...but there all so beginner. 元難しいのわくブクがいります.

  • @143444ish Naw, 3kyuu is ridiculously easy. 漢字読めれば問題ないと思うよ。But I'm wondering WHERE you learned your Japanese from because you just mixed like, Kansai Ben and Hakata Ben together, and neither of those will appear on the test, I assure you.

  • @Ciaela I think it's pretty cool that you're living in Japan. I've watched some of your videos and they're fun. You asked what other reason there could be for taking JLPT than university. Well, I think there are lots of different reasons out there. I started learning Japanese all by myself for a year now and at first it was just a hobby. I wanted to see how far I could get, because I love learning languages. It was kind of a challenge to study and then take the JLPT.

  • @Ciaela I think it's cool that you're living in Japan and your videos are fun. I've been learning Japanese for over a year now and at first it was a challenge to learn by myself and then take the JLPT. And I've always been thinking of living in Japan one day.

  • Sry for the double post - my internet is kind of slow and I didn't realize^^'

  • transforming... かわいい女の子

  • なぜ、字が逆に映っているの?

  • you so funny and cute!!! and edgy!!

    I was in meguro before.

  • Blond is cool! Keep it!

  • You can use JLPT in finding a job. I think it will give a big impression in your resumé.

  • Are there any advanced JLPT textbooks that have english translation?

  • I used 中級から上級への日本語 to pass level 2. I passed level 1 but with a score of 79. So, I am retaking it in about a year.

  • To all that reads: Im planning on starting up this channel to teach Japanese going through pretty much all aspects of the "Genki" textbooks. If you are thinking about learning but dont have any teaching methods i suggest you subscribe and stay tuned for upcoming information on my Channel.

  • Your American accent sucked fat donkey penis, racist. also nice internet.

  • I took the JLPT on Dec of the last year, but I didn't studied at all, though I have the same books with you... U did good.

  • 世界一、日本語が上手な外国人はデーブ・スペクターです。

  • Congrats on passing, but enough of the JLPT, more about hair! I liked the brown better, blonde looks funny with your brown eyebrows ^_^

  • From what I understand of it, the JLPT looks really good on a resume and in some instances is required for certain jobs.

  • Hahaha your american accent is country.

  • ビデオの映像反転してね?

  • Your Japanese pronunciation is one of the best I've heard from foreigners.

  • Hmmm, 2kyuu iw Wayy high, but I can't find any books that are between 4kyuu,3 and don't have killing kanji in there, >_<

  • The purpose of taking JLPT is not only for those who are entering univeristy but also for people who are looking to find a job in Japan

  • u are quite good looking

  • hey i have that first book for english

  • that lip biting was kawaiii ^^

  • I'm going to take 2-kyuu in the near future to help increase my chances of getting hired as an English teacher in Japan. I'm assuming that would help a lot, right? I'll be taking it here in the States, though.

New subscriber, by the way. :)

  • @OneAwesomeOpossum

You can apply for JET if you graduated college. They teach english all over Japan and you get paid something around 44,000 USD.

    nice name btw.

  • @MiniDin agreed, JET is an awesome program, i have a couple friends here in OKinawa in the JET program, they help you out a lot ! if you are eligible i would definitely apply! you don't need to know any Japanese what so ever, no joke, both of the girls i know that are in JET, didn't speak any Japanese when they applied and got the job, and they don't really know that much Japanese now.

  • I was wondering how long have you been studying japanese? ive been studying for about 7 months now, and i was planning on taking the jlpt 4, but i went to a local AEON jusco and bought some books, and it looks really hard ! so i think im just gonna take the minimum requirement to get into college which is the jlpt 5. so once again, how loang have you been studying japanese for, and how long had you been studying for when you took the jlpt 5 or 4? 応ずってください!

  • かわいいなぁ

  • lol "this computer is boring......O.O woooaaahhh" lol

  • taylor swift?

  • im taking 3kyu this december :3

  • this is so helpful, I'm taking ni-kyu next to get into beauty school in osaka, thanks so much gurrrrl :)

  • history is to be learned from not lived in breezybrisbane

  • This ongoing conversation is very sad. The woman was simply discussing a Japanese language test. This morphed into the bombing of Hiroshima and the rape of Nanking! What the hell is wrong with you people. Give it a break and lighten up!

  • you are very smart!!

  • @BreezyBrisbane Yes. And you can also say that Americans dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. And that Germans killed Jews.

However, it is ignorant to assume that one countries actions defines the opinion of every citizen who resides in it. I assure you that my classmates, and my close friends, did not commit such a crime. And I assure you that NONE of them walk around to this day, believing that the victims deserved such treatment. Same goes for any Country.

  • @Ciaela Furthermore, I also assure you that none of my friends are whale hunters. So please take your head out of your butt.

  • @BreezyBrisbane Get a life.

  • @BreezyBrisbane So... how was your burger? Good? What about your milk? Unless you're vegan I think you should just throw yourself on the guilt-train and stfu about the innocent whales. And wherever you're from I can tell you, that your country is just as 'bad'. Because, darling, there aint -one- country in the whole world, that doesn't have a history of violence, rape and "evil stuff".

  • @Ciaela AMERICA IS A CONTINENT, NOT A COUNTRY!!!!!!!

  • @Ciaela tbh how can this person say this about the people of a counry who had no role in such a terrible event i love japan but i dont hate every american for what happended same as the americans do not hate everyone in japan due to the pearl harbor attack

  • @BreezyBrisbane whale is nice, you should try it sometime...btw, norwegians hunt whale too, it is just easier for white people to pick on asians, since norwegians look the same as white people

  • The reason why I'm taking it is because jobs tend to ask for your score if you're a foreigner.

  • you are in Japan? That is Fusuma right behind you, isn't that? The interior of your appartment is very Japanese style.

  • JW - First, They Love JEHOVAH GOD with all of their strength, all of their heart and their soul, and 2nd They Love their neighbors. (Mat. 22:35-40) love their neighbors means they go door to door to preach the good news to share the good news with you.....

  • JW is trying to help people to know the truth...to save your life,(Ezekiel 3:17-21) (Read it in to your BIBLE) if you don't listen to them, they just go away, just show to them that you are not interested. okey? And JW don't need your contribution or donation if that is not heartily given....

  • I've enjoyed watching this video. You have a very pleasing personality. :)

I'm going to sub now, so that I can look forward to your future vids.

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • Great info I would suggest using GreenTextbooks . org

    Save Money, Save The Planet

GreenTextbooks . org specializes in the recycling of textbooks, DVDs, CDs. Buying used textbooks not only saves you money, but cuts down on greenhouse gases caused by the manufacturing of new textbooks.

With GreenTextbooks . org you're not only saving trees, you are saving some green. GreenTextbooks . org

  • @Ciaela What software do you use to record your videos? I'm assuming you're using a webcam... I'm using an onboard webcam which has really suck quality, but... a lot of the text stuff that I see you and bobbyjudo using looks really nice and professional.

    In that, I'm assuming it's software for something better than Windows XP, or it's something you had to pay for... >.>;

Please get back to me if you can. Thanks and God bless! :)

  • nice hair. blown away.

  • I don't want to do the JLPT, I have no idea how to tell the difference between Kun and on' yomi.... I could recognize 30-ish, list 20 (By it's self) and remember about 5 combinations... Stupid things like 花火 (Hanabi) and 花見.

If two are together and I know both of them, I guess. And fail. ^_^

  • good thing u did no too keep the blond hair.

  • hey how you doin..;) if you dont mind,,,, can i have some tips or suggestion about passing this JLPT? thanks if its ok ;D

  • hey i used to study at nils actually i seen u few times there , love ur videos

  • cute!

  • "BING!" haha love it

  • That set of textbooks is quite useful. I passed level 1 (albeit only one of four times) with help of the set of books within the same series.

  • wow, you look studying japanese so hard. its really good that you have made through. you so great to pass the test even though you fell asleep during the reading section. maybe that nap refreshed you.

  • "This computer's so foreign.... Whoa!"

    I lol'd

  • your lips soo hot

  • 日本に11年住んでました。。。日本語勉強がんばってなww

  • what teeth whitener do you use?

i just did 1.5 weeks of crest advanced white strips and my top row is pretty white but my bottom row is still kinda yellow.. im using listerine quick dissolve strips now.

  • OH! japanese fusuma.

    good taste

  • are you self taught?

  • ( ´_ゝ`) <cute. Please teach me the english.

  • Thanks for the books recommendations =)! I just have taken the JLPT 4, such a newbie! hehe, I prefered to have the lvl 4 and maybe not to fail the lvl 3 xD, because it's the first time I taked it =), my purpose is to challenge myself =), to earn "curriculum" for an scholarship, and also to go to Japan knowing more japanese, I think JLPT it's a nice guide for learning Japanese at least at the beginning XD or am I wrong?

  • You look better with blond hair.

Did you get your results from the JLPT 2 yet?

    I got my results yesterday...PASS!

  • Yes. I posted my score on Twitter ;)

A lot of people like my blonde hair better--but I don't. It doesn't suit my personality, or at least, the way I should look (in my own mind), if that makes any sense.

  • Well, I saw you with kinda brown hair on your YouTube profile page in the main video...that hair color looked good, too. I just didn't think it looked as good when it was black in your Avatar video.

I saw your JLPT 2 score on Twitter...323/400!? Great! You kicked ass on the listening. I got 299/300, you beat me on listening, but my kanji and reading was close to yours ;P

  • Haha what is with the mirror thing?! Your reaction is brilliant.

  • Hi, I'm sorry you failed it, but I really admire your atittude.

Anyways... You asked for questions, and welll... I wanna know if you have any practice test or something, or if you know if i can get one.

    Thanks a lot.

  • I failed 3 years ago. I passed now!

  • that's sexy! xD

  • 英語に混じって"日本語総まとめ問題集"って物凄いシュールだな。吹いたよちくしょう

  • ahh i found out that 2010 is the year they are changing it to levels 1-5, so no summer test, winter only. and i refuse to be a guinea pig so i guess ill wait it out til 2011 :D

  • どうだった?

    あたしも2級受けたけど、やっぱ難しかった!

    試験 頑張ってね!

  • JLPT is wierd. Difficulty varies. Like, the2005 kanji section was my best mark so far on the practice tests (91%) but then on the 2008 one I only got 68% on the kanji, so it varies. I am pretty good at the grammar, medium at the listening and I am throwing the reading out the window so to say. I have passed these previous years 2 kyuu tests with just getting a good mark on the kanji (80%), listening (65%), grammar (85%) and then just make a column of 3s for the reading. Then pass with about 65%

  • I'll be taking 4-kyuu this December. I'm really scared. I don't think I'm in any way prepared for it, because I haven't followed any formal outline in learning the rudiments of Japanese. I tried taking past exams (without the listening part) and I'm ok with them so far.

I'll be taking the JLPT because I want to work in Japan someday, hopefully in PR or international relations. ^^ just dreaming big!

I admire your enthusiasm and optimism in giving 2-kyuu another try! Go for it!

  • gonna take the 2級 too this december, although I've only been using the Kanzen Master series; everyone's praising the soumatome so I'm a little bit worried if I can do it.

I took the new N2 a week ago as a mogishiken, which gave me a little bit of confidence.. dunno, I hope it'll work.

As for the reason: When I get back from my exchange year and have the cert., I can skip 2 years of the Japanese school I'm attending; aiming to get 1級 before I graduate from high school

    Good luck! :D

  • I'm taking 2Q in Dec. I passed 3Q with an 86% in 2006. I'm taking the 2Q because I get a Y20,000 bonus for passing it. It also looks good on a resume while in Japan.

BTW, the 日本語総まとめ問題集2級「語彙編」 is pretty good, but didn't you find that there were a lot of English mistranslations?

  • I'm taking the JLPT 二級 as well... I'm very very very nervous because i haven't really been cracking the whip on myself...and time is ticking...plus, since i'm in my last semester of college, i'm stressed as it is . . . .

just to let you know, nintendo of america along with many other companies that require translators say in their requirements that you need a bachelors degree in related arts and 1級 level in japanese! =]

  • i like your japanese accent, it sounds pretty good.

    Greetings from Chile

  • 頑張ってくださいね★

  • 2級を頑張って下さい!

    私も今年の12月6日にギリシャで(ギリシャ人だもん^^)日本語能力試験を受ける予定なんですが、1級ですから、ちょっと不安です!準備しているけど、やっぱり怖いよ!!!

    とにかく、頑張らなきゃね~!

  • アナタの英語は、ききとりやすい英語ですね。

Your English is easy to understand.

ps. Hikozaemon's accent is so thick that I cant understand what hes saying in Englsih.vids.

  • where arre taking yours?

  • You should be able to pass 2級 after studying the two new approach books, but if you are great at kanji, you might pass after the first one even. (the blue one you have) Actually, most of the people I know who finished the second new approach book passed 1級 this year. Oh, and if you don't like the blue one, you will like the second (red) one even less. Anyway, I was wondering, do you have any good tips for books after new approach? I'm finished with both and are looking for my next "fix".

  • i have the nihongo sou matome and love it!

    think its gonna be oke!!

    this december 2kyu ....... i will die if i fail x3

    good luck!!!

your japanese pronounciation is so lovely

  • For the 日本語総まとめ問題集2級, does it help you review the materials in the previous levels?

Also, I am thinking about getting that book as well, but is there a way for you to get that series in America?

Thank you and I enjoy your videos

  • 完全マスター the series is great

  • I have kanzen master for 1kyuu and 2kyuu as well, although I struggle with it because I find the content so booooring. :(

  • yes it's quite boring but veeery thorough. i'll check out those books you talked about in the video when i move back, thanksss :)

  • That my English probably is terrible, but .... gustaria to be in contact with you, you look like to me a brilliant(genial) person

  • hey hey hey, thats southern american accent. haha~

anyhoo what was the green book you held up first? and what program do you use to make your videos, if you dont mind me asking? ^_^

  • The green book isn't a book! It's the JLPT Application Package! ;)

I used to use Ulead Video Studio for my videos, but I just bought a Mac (hence the bad editing) and I'm starting to use iMovie.

  • I haven't tried a JLPT yet... I'm doing a qualification here in the UK next summer... not very advanced, but it'll be nice to have a _real_ qualification.

    Good luck with your JLPT!

  • がんば!

  • Good luck with the JLPT!!

  • 英語母語の人って日本語さぞかしむずいだろうなぁ

  • 確かに英語系の人に対して漢字とかは難しいけど、逆の立場から見ると、漢字系の人にとってローマ字や、フォニックスもさぞ大変だろうなーと思われるよ。

  • たしかに

    私は英語の勉強やりなおしてますけど発音と聞き取りが大変ですね。

    歳くってからなのでなおさらです。

    まあ日本の女性も何言ってるのかたまにわかりませんが・・

  • idk any kana or kanji, just romaji, lol im such a dork

  • 試験がんばってね!(^(ェ)^)

  • !!!!頑張るわ~ッ!!!!

  • When we were studying, my friend and I posted all of the 2 kyuu grammar on our site (The Daily Yoji at blogspot). They're kind of silly, and probably riddled with errors, but it might be an amusing supplement. Just click the 2 kyuu label.

You probably don't need the help though, since you "write" the tests. Just make the questions easy... Canadian.

    PS. Nice American accent.

  • Yeah, when I say write, I mean... write circles around A B C or D.

  • I love your glasses :P

and yeah you made a clever decision... Level 1 is fricking hard (it's even hard for me)... but yeah better score in Level 2 is much much better....

    good luck Mic <3

  • I took level 4 last year and missed by 1 question... :(

I won't be taking it this year as I simply haven't had the time to study though, although I'm sure I could pass level 4 if I wanted to. Ideally, I want to make sure I can pass level 3 before taking the test again, as I have to drive up to Edmonton in the middle of winter to take the test. Came home in a blizzard last time.

  • I didn't know you could take it in other countries. How do they police it from that far away? Do you have to go to a consulate or something?

  • No consulate is required. Every country that has the test is usually organized through the Japan Foundation. They will have certain places that are allowed to administer the test and it is very strict when taking the test. I ended up signing up for the test through the University of Alberta itself. This will be their third year administering the test.

  • Yeah, I wrote the test in Vancouver two years ago!

It's usually available in Major cities.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not taking it this year but I'd like to take it next year (2級). I know I could probably cram like crazy but I think it might be better to take my time and try to learn more naturally. :)

I like the JLPT because that kind of concrete recognition gives me a real sense of achievement and pride. :) It also looks sweet on a resume.

  • Mich hehe how do you learn japanese without a teacher?

But if you are in japan and you dont know how to say a word take a notepad and draw it then show it to japanese and say i want..... and that stuff you did draw.

  • Good luck on your JLPT!

  • THANK YOU! ;)

  • ....and I promise I'm not trying to offend by asking...but...

    How old are you exactly?

Awesome video by the way, many thanks :)

  • How old do I look? :O

  • (And here it is ladies and gents, I'm about to walk into a mine field.)

    I would say about 16/17.

  • Though I do apologize if that's a little off the mark; my age guessing abilities were always shite. It just means that you'll be eternally cute (wish I could say the same hahaha)

  • i'm flattered! most people tell me I look 19?

    I'm 21. ;)

  • Chicago accent xD Wow! You are so perfect, I love your white teeth, your hair, your eyebrows, your skin (lol, I sound like a pervert xD). Ciaela, what's your skill with the kanji reading and writing?

  • Kanji reading is better than writing, if we're talking writing with a pen or pencil.

My written composition is pretty good--I won a speech contest last month ;)

  • Congratulations!! And tell me something, has it been really hard to learn kanjis? Or passion moves you and that's enough ;) ?

  • It's not really passion. It's the number of reading drills we do every day in school. A lot of the stuff we do involves reading essays and stuff, and since I'm the only non-chinese girl in class, I struggle with Kanji the most. (Which is why I have to try really hard to keep up.)

  • Hi Ciaela,

What's your technique to cram Kanji? Flashcards, Write them down 1 billion times or memorizing software like Anki?

    Good luck for your 二級!

  • for me the way that I remember kanji is by the radicals like 日鈤氜馹驲 but what i dislike about kanji is that there are multiple pronunciations for kanji and even Japanese people have a hard time reading name kanji in this sense chinese kanji is much easier but good luck you can do it.

  • For sure you're gonna pass....you're the best, remember?

  • Oh yeah!!

  • Any suggestions to learning Kanji while still living in North America? I've been writing them a million times, and translating texts that include furigana in them...I know its a process but maaaaan.

  • Try Heisig's remembering the Kanji, and start using an SRS.

  • I have no real reason for taking it other than earning a feeling of self-accomplishment. I took 3級 when I was in Miyazaki last year and passed, and I was really looking forward to taking on 2級 this year, but I guess that'll have to wait, since they're not giving it here in Puerto Rico. I'll probably take it next year once I'm in college, though. ;)

    頑張って!

  • you sexy! im not speak ingles and japanes... you cool and nice

    big kiss........

  • Hey good luck this December! I also just registered for 2級 last saturday. It's my first time to take any level so I'm not sure what to expect. However I'm pretty confident with my ability as far as 2級 goes. The books I use for grammar are the 3 books by Seiichi Makino and Michio Tsustui (the red blue and yellow ones). I'll let you know how I do. I'm going to be studying so intensely from now until then. You do the same!

    -Colin

  • lol Colin, you popped up outta nowhere.

  • Haha, what happened at 0:58 ? xD

  • I think the camera was trying to auto-adjust the color relevant to the blue in the book cover..

  • I use げんき! because I'm a noob! To be honest, it's perfect for me who is completely new to the language. If people message you about books for complete beginners who don't know any japanese but want to make big strides, I can vouch for the series as a good set to get you on your feet fast.

I'm considering JLPT 4 this december but haven't looked into and don't really see the point.

    Thanks for sharing! You rule.

  • Good luck on the test miss (i know its not for awhile so this is advanced luck)

destroy it like a man in a gozilla suit destroys a cardboard city

  • That idea sounds so crazy it just might work!

  • If you can pass it, then it's good to have. Just because.
