But actually, this video was particularly helpful to me because I'm actually going to be starting on my own senior project in about 2-3 months (I'm majoring in game/simulatin programming at DeVry University).
lol I've already got extremely high hopes for our senior project, and I'm already filling our design doc with all kinds of amazing ideas... but I'll take your advice and keep an open mind about it.
But I think the best way to go about it is to aim high and make adjustments as needed. =)
I'm giving serious consideration to this school and to The Art Institutes right now.
I'm leaning more towards Full Sail though because (according to all the research I've done), it's cheaper and aside from the accreditation (which I'm guessing doesn't matter much in the gaming industry anyway), it seems like an all-around great school.
@CultEvaded It's simple environment, not too bad, only took a month to piece together. I'll be posting it soon w/ my next video. I've been on vacation.
@TheCreativeItch Right on, well deserved i would say. I hope to see more of your work as you progress. Are you planning on making anymore videos about your life afterwards? Just make sure you get some A1 pieces put together for your portfolio.
I have watched almost all of your videos and the thing that they all have in common that I like is that all through these classes and shitty random things happening, you have the greatest attitude about it all and you seem very focused. I'm sure you will do well after Full Sail. Thanks for the inspiration :)
Well basically they give you a lot of how to videos/tutorials. I would recommend that you also take the time to find some other tutorials on your own and practice as much as you can before the class starts. As for the workload it isn't outrageously overdone its just all crunched back to back.
So I'm confused, you started out as computer animation and you changed to Game Art? I am seeing the course outline for computer animation and I don't see any final project classes but there is no demo reel class for game art so I am confused about what you are talking about. I would like to take Computer Animation but would also enjoy working on a game which is where I would like to end up. I am confused on what to take. Also, do you need to be a good artist before starting at full sail?
Saw all the videos.. dude.. the only thing i have to say is, i got way more insight on full sail from ur videos than from any sites or forums. Thank u so much for uploading all these videos right from the start.. am plannin to join full sail soon for game arts.. n thanks to u.. i have a pretty good idea on wot to do.. have spoken to my admission rep. n all the best for ur demo reel man.. lookin forward to seein it.. cheers
yeah i figured it would still be a lot of work. but it would be too difficult doing on campus courses anywhere, but good luck to you man. just remember after you graduate go to where the work is. 90% of the time a company will choose someone who lives in town rather than pay for relocating someone.
@CultEvaded you can contact me via email at ehresmannj@gmail.com, or you can contact me through aim @badp4ndaent.
To answer the online questions, the tuition cost includes EVERYTHING. Your books, your art supplies, and the classes. It's one class a month, and you have the same workload that you'd have in that same class on campus. That being said, yes you can work a full time job, I know people that do it, while managing families just fine.
Creative will tell you, I've had moments where I've been frustrated with the online program, hell I've left and am now coming back.
But this is because I forgot a core thing that he talked about in his videos, you're not going to love all of your teachers, I let one person get the best of me and I left. You also need to remember that any school in this field is you get what you put in.
The biggest thing, that will help you out when you're in the program, is the Digital Art Club. It's open to on campus students and online students, my good friend Ben started it, and it's become a place for the students that are online, to really come together as if we were an on campus entity, you can definitely learn a lot from there alone....sry for massive reply
@Marv3lf4n Ill have to defiantly take advantage of that. Im not really one to let someone get under my skin, so i shouldnt have a problem dealing with teachers. ive been trying to learn some stuff now so that way i have a slight understanding when i enter the program, but theres not really anything i can run on my laptop since my graphics card completely blows. How bad is the work load though? is it going to be where i have no spare time?
ill be learning stuff on my own as well along with what the classes are teaching me and ill also be practicing what im being taught as well, but my main concern is having time to spend with my son and working as i cant afford to not work, but i can also just do my coursework after he goes to bed at night, so it shouldnt be to big of an issue. sorry bout the long reply
@CultEvaded It's like this. do you have to dedicate all your time to it? Nah, not really. I spent 120 hours in a week on one of my projects, I could have easily done it in less time, but I had the time to spare, so I did it. I know other people who put in half the time I did. It all comes down to if you don't put the time into the school work, put in whatever time you can outside of it, remember we're in art. Grades don't matter, it's what you learn.
Well, good luck to you man. Im playing on starting the online classes for game art here soon. I would go to the campus, but it would be way to rough with me having a kid. Do you know much about the online courses?
@CultEvaded I don't really know much about the online courses, I have a couple friends in them now, now they're way early in the program. I heard it's A LOT of work though, even online.
@CultEvaded Hey, I got you Creative. I'm actually an online student, well returning online student. What kind of questions do you got? Maybe I'll pick up where Mr. Itch has leaves off and start a VLOG on the Online Xperience lol
@Marv3lf4n Well, first off what is the course load like? Would i be able to work a full time job, or at least part-time, while taking the classes. Do you receive books or are they all e-books, that's probably my biggest concern considering i like to have reference material especially if i cant find something in particular online. do you have an email that i can send questions to so that way don't clutter comment pages?
@CultEvaded Im currently in Game Art online, and just started 3D foundations and so far its pretty crunched. During our first week we have to create a storyboard of our animation, then the second week we have to model a character, prop (hard-edged) and a texturing project. But its pretty fun, teacher is really cool and helpful as are the videos that you are shown. But I am sure it is going to be way harder to learn without that direct Teacher/Student interaction.
@Drdrat Im assuming that they tell you how to make the stuff in the programs that your using. A lot of work really isnt going to bother as im used to it.
@mrrepeat Thanx for the vote of confidence. Why do you continuously comment negatively on my videos? Why not unsubscribe? If seeing someone else fail gives you joy because you're a failure...that's bad karma. That's the reason you're unemployed, your attitude is awful.
ive seen most of your videos, and i visited the campus this summer, and its a pretty kick ass im totally7 going to try to go there :) your videos helped out a lot to understand the school
WOOHOO one month left!!! Awesome Bro!!! I am right behind you, okay so quite a ways behind you, hahaha. I am having fun with ART2 I will have to get you some pictures when I get to a final. We will have to get together for a beer sometime.
I've seen all of your videos and I'm glad to say I'm going to fullsail next year because of them, thanks! Btw your personality and speaking skillz will take you far in the world of gaming (I can easily see you presenting the next big thing at E-3).
