Come on come on settle down. If you asked Rod whether he felt he was better than Sam he'd probably whack you and deservedly so. Rod Stewart has a very good voice, distinctive and gravelly. But what sets Rod and his heir Paolo Nutini apart from someone like Sam is the dearth of soul which is communicated in the music.

Get a hold of Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Square club and it blows anything by Rod into touch. Also Sam Cooke is on a par with Dylan, Beatles etc in terms of writing songs.

For what it's worth, I do think Rod is a good singer, I just don't like some of the music he made (specifically disco and love ballads) after going solo. Rod can sing any and every genre from swing to fairly hard rock, I'm not a huge fan of his latest stuff but it still shows how good he is, his charisma originality and ability to sing with emotion is unbeatable. To criticise Rod is to criticise perfection personified, which in your case is massivley hypocritical judging by this weak performance

If calling Stewart "crap" is crime, then calling Cooke "just another soul singer" is an outright indignation. The fact you had to look up Sam Cooke tells me you're out of your league. Sam had charisma in spades, and ability few can match. In fact, Rod's vocal delivery and phrasing in his songs is directly inspired by Cooke. It's sad that not many people know of Cooke or his legacy... he helped define soul music. Rod's a good singer, but I'm just not into his solo work, and I'm entitled to that.

Yeah, np... So it's capo 2, and it was just G, Am7 for the verse, and then G, C, F for the chorus. To play in the same key (key of D, I think) without a capo you would play A, Bm7 for verse, and A D G for the chorus.

Hah, yeah... I normally play it like that, with the correct chords too (D, Em7, etc) but it was 01:30 when this was recorded, so I had capo'd the guitar and changed the chords so I could sing it without getting too loud.
