Hey Sug! I must say thank you for posting this video. I myself changed my mind and left a job I was not happy with. I worked for the city of NY had a pension etc I was "good" but the reality I was miserable as hell! When I decided to leave everyone thought, "oh she crazy" but I'm glad I made the decision to finish my degree and focus on the career I always wanted for myself. I hear you and you are grown doing your thing. Motherhood should always come first. However, should one of my children allow me and my hubby to spend our hard earned money on their education and come to us with I changed my mind, I am dropping out of college to pursue x, y and/or z...oh baby it shall be ON COMPLETELY! Money is hard for black folks to come by. They can change their minds when they are paying their own tuition. JMO

Sug thank-you so much for this timely video! After 5 yrs in a job that did not value my skills/education, exhibited questionable corporate values & poor management, I handed in my notice & leave before my 35th birthday next weekend. I stayed to clear debt accrued from my education & travelling but realised that with less than a grand left to pay, some things are just not worth the wait/compromise. I too have prayed for guidance & have decided to pursue my artistic passions. U r an inspiration!

Miss Sugar I have been off for 4 months no and I'm in limbo trying to figure out what I'm going to do. I think my profession is a great one, but it really drains me probably in a similar way that your job did u. I could go back to that profession at any time, but I don't know if I've built up enough emotional reserves yet. I have been praying for God to lead me in the direction he wants me to go. I may be one of the ones about to have a baby in 9 months. LOL (not that the 5 i already have ain't enough). ;-) And i feel you on working with the children and the politricks behind it. I worked 3 months teaching children at a private school without getting paid because of bad finances 0_o. I loved teaching but like you said, i was drained after work and this was before being married with babies of my own. I work for "free" now because i choose too and i'm ain't mad. Great message!

Great vid! You know so many people do what we in Human Resources call, "quit and stay". They're not happy on the job, mentally they have quit, but physically, they stay. And people can be so unhappy on their job and/or w/ their career path. It's amazing what happens on the job when your heart is not in it, ya know? I just went through this...I wasnt happy in school b/c i had no clue what to do with my life I told my family my decision to leave they werent happy at first but they respected my decision
so what r u doing now, since you resigned? i belive that motherhood, is the MOST IMPORTANT thing in a child's life. My mother has worked ALL her life, and barley had time with me or my sister. That's why i have deviated from a straight path into problems with relationships and school. She is still working as a Food Inspector, going to all these factories from state to state. I know am 26 years old, but i would love if my mom would just stay at home. She is the bread winner in the house.
I feel you girl. I left my job and now Im happier. I loved what I did and I thought i was gonna do it forever. I was missing my boys growing up. My job slowly showed me that it wasnt for me. You know I have been praying hard lately, asking God for direction, guidance, answers. I too work in the social service "arena". I am a therapist that works with DCFS involved pregnant and parenting teens. Then, I am a mom of 18 month old identical twin boys. Between the stress over productivity, low pay, and no care about our well-being (some of these areas are very dangerous) its enough to drive a sane person insane! I raise two wonderful babies(twins) on my own and when they were in high school I looked at them childrens and said what am I gonna do now. So I went back to school and finished my degree and me and my babies graduated (High school and college) one week apart. I worked so hard and sacrificed so much to get that degree. and guess what? I don't want to do the job that I went to school to do. Can you believe that? Now What? Change my Mind!

:) thankfully i dont owe but a couple grand to student loans, but i went from going to dental school (just for the money) to now being an educator and im sooo glad i changed my mind! I would have never thought I would have been happy in the field im in now helping others and giving back. Thank God. Im happy

A lesson I learned very late, now I owe more in student loans and interest than I can pay and no career. I tell my children the same thing, don't keep going to school for something you don't like just for "status". Thanks for sharing this.
Made that kind of decision 12 years ago at a job I couldn't stand. Decided not to pursue my doctorate & much happier about it. 2 semesters away as a licensed therapist and walked away. Found my calling in guidance counseling & I'm much happier. I would ecstatic if I had the job I want but I know I will have it in the future. Student loans...booooooo
Wow!! Thank you so much for this video!! I left my job of 10 years as an Electrical Engineer making a nice check, repeat NICE CHECK, to go back to school to be a nurse. I got questioned left and right (We in a recession, Are you sure, Why you not using your degree, Well can I have it?) It's cool though cause I'm happy! And in my house when I'm happy hubby and kiddos are happy, too!! So I agree, change is doable, and good ;-)
This is great, Sug! So great! I'm applying for grad school. I do want my Master's, but I know if I continue on with school past that mark into any kind of Doctorate situation, I will be MISERABLE. If I were going for it, it would be for other people, and not for me.

I had planned to go to medical school, but after working with children with autism and other developmental disabilities and asking God to reveal my purpose in life....I want to be a teacher!!!!! Thank you so much for this video! I had to favorite this. I am in my last semester of college at a great university and I been wanting to pursue a different career which will completely throw me off track and may result in me leaving this university and relocating. It has been weighing so heavy on my heart for six months because I worked so hard to get where I am and I don't want to disappoint my parents but I realize now I have to do what is best for me and will ultimately make me happy.
Me too honey! Spent too many years in corporate, long hours, stress,etc...very happy now staying home with my babies and working part-time. I'm glad we 'changed our mind early enough to enjoy life. Wish i could meet u on sat.maybe next time.
So true Sug! I needed to hear this because I was just thinking about this! I am a college student and I had been working towards becoming a nurse anethesist and now I have changed my major to social work and I have so many people looking at me like "what"?! They are saying things like, "that's a big change in salary" and I'm like "ok". I realized that that was too much for me and that I still want to help people and have decided to do that through social work and I"M HAPPY with that!

Amen!! I left a job of 19 years because I woke up every morning angry that I hadn't died in my sleep. I had stayed only because they money was great and I was a single parent. What my daughter learned from my sacrifice, however, is that she will never work a job she doesn't like (although that just might change if she becomes a mom). My point is that I've never been happier than I am right now, just doing freelance work on my own terms. Misery is not okay.
I NEEDED TO HEAR THIS!!!! thank you. Yes the amount I owe my student loans, mortgage, library fines, and such ring in my head sometimes. But I love being home with my kids, who are little just one time in their lives.

I'm a clinician as well working at a hospital and I find myself disliking my job (so many things have happended there) and it's having a negative impact on my life and my current functioning. I know that I have to step out on faith...but that first step just seems to be the hardest.
That was wonderful :). I ended my teaching job a year ago. Looooonnnnnnnnnggggggggggg story ok yall. But now I am trying to figure out a next step. I working now in a bakery which is very cool. I was an art teacher so I tried to pick something that was creative. Anyway, my major in school was clay art and I am trying to get into that more. You are right. Life is short and we need to live!!!!! Have some good clean fun :). I plan to do more of this.

OMG Sug! This vid couldn't have not come at a better time. I'm so glad you posted this vid it really speaks to me. I have just left a job that was consumed with all kinds of drama, tomfoolery, and stress. I hated that job I would literally cried everyday before work and in the restroom sometimes while at work. Why did I put myself though such torture you my ask yourself because logically it made sense. Now that I am no longer at the job I don't have a plan but i'm a much happier person.

so what r u doing now, since you resigned? i belive that motherhood, is the MOST IMPORTANT thing in a child's life. My mother has worked ALL her life, and barley had time with me or my sister. That's why i have deviated from a straight path into problems with relationships and school. She is still working as a Food Inspector, going to all these factories from state to state. I know am 26 years old, but i would love if my mom would just stay at home. She is the bread winner in the house.

I feel you girl. I left my job and now Im happier. I loved what I did and I thought i was gonna do it forever. I was missing my boys growing up. My job slowly showed me that it wasnt for me. God turned my life in a whole another light. And Im happier and stonger than I ever been. Thanks for the video Sug. U make us laugh and cry. U keep it real. Have fun in Atlanta.

You know I have been praying hard lately, asking God for direction, guidance, answers. I too work in the social service "arena". I am a therapist that works with DCFS involved pregnant and parenting teens. Then, I am a mom of 18 month old identical twin boys. Between the stress over productivity, low pay, and no care about our well-being (some of these areas are very dangerous) its enough to drive a sane person insane! Thanks for supply the words that carried my answer! Love you whoissugar!

I raise two wonderful babies(twins) on my own and when they were in high school I looked at them childrens and said what am I gonna do now. So I went back to school and finished my degree and me and my babies graduated (High school and college) one week apart. I worked so hard and sacrificed so much to get that degree. and guess what? I don't want to do the job that I went to school to do. Can you believe that? Now What? Change my Mind!

:) thankfully i dont owe but a couple grand to student loans, but i went from going to dental school (just for the money) to now being an educator and im sooo glad i changed my mind! I would have never thought I would have been happy in the field im in now helping others and giving back. Thank God. Im happy

Made that kind of decision 12 years ago at a job I couldn't stand. Decided not to pursue my doctorate & much happier about it. 2 semesters away as a licensed therapist and walked away. Found my calling in guidance counseling & I'm much happier. I would ecstatic if I had the job I want but I know I will have it in the future. Student loans...booooooo

Wow!! Thank you so much for this video!! I left my job of 10 years as an Electrical Engineer making a nice check, repeat NICE CHECK, to go back to school to be a nurse. I got questioned left and right (We in a recession, Are you sure, Why you not using your degree, Well can I have it?) It's cool though cause I'm happy! And in my house when I'm happy hubby and kiddos are happy, too!! So I agree, change is doable, and good ;-)

I had planned to go to medical school, but after working with children with autism and other developmental disabilities and asking God to reveal my purpose in life....I want to be a teacher!!!!! Thank you so much for this video! I had to favorite this. I am in my last semester of college at a great university and I been wanting to pursue a different career which will completely throw me off track and may result in me leaving this university and relocating. It has been weighing so heavy on my heart for six months because I worked so hard to get where I am and I don't want to disappoint my parents but I realize now I have to do what is best for me and will ultimately make me happy.

So true Sug! I needed to hear this because I was just thinking about this! I am a college student and I had been working towards becoming a nurse anethesist and now I have changed my major to social work and I have so many people looking at me like "what"?! They are saying things like, "that's a big change in salary" and I'm like "ok". I realized that that was too much for me and that I still want to help people and have decided to do that through social work and I"M HAPPY with that!

Amen!! I left a job of 19 years because I woke up every morning angry that I hadn't died in my sleep. I had stayed only because they money was great and I was a single parent. What my daughter learned from my sacrifice, however, is that she will never work a job she doesn't like (although that just might change if she becomes a mom). My point is that I've never been happier than I am right now, just doing freelance work on my own terms. Misery is not okay.

I'm a clinician as well working at a hospital and I find myself disliking my job (so many things have happended there) and it's having a negative impact on my life and my current functioning. That was wonderful :). I ended my teaching job a year ago. Looooonnnnnnnnnggggggggggg story ok yall. But now I am trying to figure out a next step. I working now in a bakery which is very cool. I was an art teacher so I tried to pick something that was creative. Anyway, my major in school was clay art and I am trying to get into that more. You are right. Life is short and we need to live!!!!! Have some good clean fun :). I plan to do more of this.

OMG Sug! This vid couldn't have not come at a better time. I'm so glad you posted this vid it really speaks to me. I have just left a job that was consumed with all kinds of drama, tomfoolery, and stress. I hated that job I would literally cried everyday before work and in the restroom sometimes while at work. Why did I put myself though such torture you my ask yourself because logically it made sense. Now that I am no longer at the job I don't have a plan but i'm a much happier person.
