"Syrena" label in late 30s was a sort of experimenting with technique and even sides being now in good condition have some 'natural' surface noise. As for me - I always try to make a record sound as it actually does.
The other thing is, which I always repeat, "historical storms" over this country made that today these discs are very difficult to be found, nobody cared for years.
I didn`t know before there had been also Polish versions - both of them also beatiful, each in its own way - of the "Tango Notturno". I have a German disk by Electrola (without singing) and a Latvian record by Bellacord-Electro (with a Latvian-language vocal refrain). Jurek, dzenkuje one more time for this acoustical feast!
I enjoyed this very much with the Polish lyrics. Beautiful arrangement and singing. I had my mother listen. She loved it and thanks you. It brought back memories of a young man singing this to her when she was a young girl in Poland and then dancing the night away with my father to this tango years later. Tango Notturno is one of her favorites.
Negri's approach is absolutely different - dramatic lament, confession; she is an actress in her interpretation. Very young Seipp tries to follow her a bit (with interesting orchestration and more clear rhythm). Wesby-Witas's is a piece for dancing and dreaming a little ..."in somebody's arms". Yes, they work is good and stylish.
Another splendid version of the smutne Tango Notturno. I enjoy hearing it in Polish and with Witas singing. Beautiful orchestration. Nice clear rhythm. Am I right to assume that the Szlengel on the label is Wladyslaw Szlengel the poet? Did he co-write the lyrics?
Yes, that is this Szlengel; he, in late thirties, co-written many a texts with Jerzy Lipski. Recordings of those times treated music as more important and we can hear here only a refrain; pity beacuse whole text is most beautiful and your brilliant remark will make me present it soon.
Tango in German or Polish is not befitting. Is this a continental tango composed in Europe?
Is there no Spanish version?
