IMO, that Dutch liberal and tolerant thingy was only true in some ways, it's a stereotype (a positive one, sure, but still a stereotype). The Dutch are no more liberal and tolerant than their neighbours, just as the French aren't pompous, the Germans aren't humourless, Brits don't have bad teeth and Belgians aren't boring.
