  • oh and lcd tvs also can have image burn or ghosting...

  • for the top comments> while playing a video game say like call of duty online u would be worried about the mini map getting burned in. For that to happen tho the image would have to be there for hours and hours on end but since theres the loading screens, lobbys and pause screens and what not u have nothing to worry about.

  • I have about 60 hours on my Viera. I just hit the zoom button to fill the screen when needed.About 15 of these hours have been with the black bars,I see no effect on the picture.

  • I have a Panasonic S30 with almost 400h and after a week of playing forza 4 (about 20h total) I have a very nice retention of the RPM/speedometer in the corner of my tv... It's still there after 24h00 of full frame tv, ~3h00 of scroll bar and at least 3h00 of this clip /watch?v=L4gE_Xez-fQ

The latest made the biggest improvement so far.

  • i now somebody with a vt 30 and they still get image retention.... May not have to worry about burn in if your not keeping a still image on for hours upon hours but u still have to deal with image retention which is annoying maybe in 2013 or they can fix image retention i doubt it will all be fixed by next year

  • Here's the issues with LED LCD, you will get some degree of back light bleed, it's near impossible to not have even a slight amount. Also when using LED's you have to take into account that it's using a bunch of tiny little bulbs and each bulb will have a tiny variance in brightness and color temperature. So there's a very real chance of your TV having bright spots or having slightly warmer and cooler color areas across the screen. Also the new LCD's have that soap opera effect : /

  • Panasonic claims that all there plasma's from there 14th genteration and newer can display the same image for 4 day's whitout any visual burn in... altrough they dont recomend keeping your tv on for that long,

oh and about the 1080p debat... if the box/tv says full hd it means that the tv will do full 1080p . if it says 1080p it means the tv is capable of downscaling 1080p signals into 720p ... so in other words if the box says 1080p it means the tv can play 1080p content but in 720p reselution

  • I just bought my plasma, AND INSTANTLY BURN IN, staight out the box, what the hell man, i didnt do anything, when i started the tv first time and bam, burn in.

  • lmao i have never heard anything so rediculous in my entire life, instead of making a better tv they give new plasmas an anti image retention orbiter, Bwa hahahhhaa

  • @gunstar1981...also i have set bluray to 1080p/24p and it plays fine no judders or motion affects either

  • @gunstar1981...dont want to start an argument here but it does do full 1080p...i have had my ps3 and pc hooked up to it and have played bluray at 1080p...calibration techs also say that its on 1080p thru calibration settings and report...they were suprised to see that it was marked 720p on the box but the firmware shows a full 1080p signal...wierd huh

  • I just bought a Samsung PN51D450A2 720p (it does do 1080p for some reason) I play Xbox on it for 4-6 hrs and have had no problems at all..no break in period either..like I said before in the comment below this is all hype. Plasma TV's Still have the best PQ out of all the TV's on the market even for gaming

  • @GeminiTen It does not do 1080p, it accepts a 1080p signal and down converts it to 720p. Your HDTV says "1080p" because its telling you the resolution of the source.

  • This is all Marketing and uneducated rsales people hype...yeah 4-5 years ago this was a problem...Were in 2011 people, in todays tech age they have nearly eliminated burn in problems..no need to have a break in period either

  • Thanks guys put my mind at rest. Glad I went Panasonic.

  • where can i buy the break in plasma dvd from i saw people using dvd it seems safer being inever had a plasma before

  • where can i find the anti image retention menu on my vt20? cant find it lol. someone please reply

  • @menimeskcor lol I have the same problem

  • Golf channel logo is not transparent and burn in or retention or whatever you call it... it's there. I have run the screen saver on the tv and tried Jscreenfix over the area too... not going away....Samsung 58" 3dTV... not an old tv.

I'm not sure why the one guy recommends that I watch more HD broadcasts to get rid of the image... what does HD broadcasts have to do with anything?

  • the real problem is the stupid NBC/CBS/GOLF CHannel symbols in the bottom right of broadcasts! Burn in!!

    Fin PiZZe$ me off.

  • I want a LED-PLASMA XD wish they could mix those two

  • @quangluu96 Then wait for the OLED TV's ;-)

  • @LokiTH102 too expensive bro...it just came out, so not that very reliable, ima wait for another 3 or 4 years before i get OLED, ima stick to the Edge LED for now :)

  • i learned nothing

  • Bought a 50 inch plasma did the stupid break in for 150 hours, got it pro calibrated, played a game for a 1 hour got screen burn and went right back to best buy, now getting a led, plasmas are a pain in the ass but got a amazing picture and colors

  • blah. plasma seem like a pain in the ass.

  • Dumbest thing I ever heard of pay 1,000 dollars and you have to break it in! It should work perfectly out of the box lamo...

  • @auburn722 Welcome to technology, this needs be done with almost everything. I broke in my plasma's screen, my computer's CPU/thermal paste, and my headphones.

  • great video with the on screen examples. but could you please answer matthewrasers question? i too would like to know if after the first 200, is it ok to play video games for a good 4-8 hours straight with HUDs and other static icon things? i especially am concerned about the tcp42s2 which i recently bought and im just trying to make sure i have all the info before it arrives. ive been reading a lot about ir and ib and ive become wuite scared and paranoid to say the least. lol.. please answer

  • imagine the ammo supply thing burns in your tv and then u wacth an action movie and it say no ammo

  • do i have to turn on the tv for 100 hours straight for the burn in? Or can I did it a few hours a day?

  • @hohoyun it can be done as quickly or slowly as you like. some people play a certain break in dvd for hours on end (up to 24 hrs) to make the break in process go by faster. or you can do it however else you like

  • Fukin bS!. i just bought a sansui 50 plasma 1080 today and i have burn in lines on top and bottom. my tv comes with a media player via usb so i was watching a bluray rip (karate kid) for 15 minutes and when i exited i saw annoting faint grey lines!!! burn in time...pft pathetic technology. im going to give my tv a few days until i get annoyed of it and return it back to sears!

  • @TurtLePimpin If you read consumers report they say the sansui is aweful... Go online for consumer reports and shit or buy the mag. I have a subscription 4 consumer reports and for the past few months i have seen sansui near the bottom of the list Panasonic is at the top in each So if i were you id also return it I also read when it comes to plasma the most expensive is usually the way to go. My grandpa always saidBuy cheap pay more. WIth cheap you have to replace so basically its more expensive

  • @PianoXfan1 hehe im sorry i meant "samsung" sansui made good audio equipment in the 80's lol. so soddy

  • Pretty the same feats. Orbiter or pixel shifter and single colour frames to wear in all the same pixels at once

  • i know Panasonic has anti burn in features, but what features does samsung have?

  • Why don't LCD TV manufacturers put in tool that cycles multicolored fuzz like that JScreenFix thing? Of course the manufacturers could probably make something better. Maybe they'll create something that would zap the screen like DeGausing or something, but it would hit the dead pixels and wipe burn in.

  • Play games on mine everyday. It's the only way to go. Will never own a LCD again. I do not notice any sort of IR or BI from Madden, Halo, or COD. Go get one and enjoy!

  • what is the best brand for plasma tv, samsung?

  • @KillyWildlands samsung panasonic and LG

  • @KillyWildlands panasonic! They bought the Pioneer Plasma Division and they had the best Plasma Displays, The Kuro.

  • @KillyWildlands Panasonic but Samsung is also very good.

  • Very awesome, thanks guys!

  • What about playing video games? Should I be worried about image burn in even after the first 200 hours or so with the little icons that are always there with video games such as mini maps, health bars, ammo supply ect?

  • @matthewraser a very good question. i demand someone answer it

  • @matthewraser Don’t worry about it I like to pause things like crazy on my TV one time I had something paused for about an hour and a half and nothing happened to my plasma. So play games in peace because it will be fine. PS. Sometimes you will be able to see the mini map or what not after you turn it off but it will disappear so don’t worry.

  • @matthewraser I've been playing Wii and XB360 for some months now (several hours a day), once in a while a do the white anti image retention bar (just as a precaution).

Also, I did the image break in process, for about 150 hours, before playing games, using a set of solid images, that transitioned diferent colors using the picture function on my panasonic.

The TV is basically used for gaming, so far, I havent had any issues related to image retention.

  • @tw8e60 How mnay hours in a row for gaming? Im buying my first TV and I want to go plasma because imo it looks better than LCD... But i am very worried about IR... I can somtimes play for up to 6 hours on a day off work or somthing... So how does HUD handle for hours and hours? And do all pannys have anti retention abilitys? Im likly going to buy a 42 inch plasma... So thanks in advance man!

  • @PianoXfan1 I usually play for 2-3 hours a day, XBOX360 and Wii, some of the Wii games are not even full widescreen, they will leave a black line left and right about an inch thick.

So far, up to this day, I have no IR issues.

However I do stay away from some NES virtual console games.

I've had the TV for 4 months now, I did used a set of JPEG's found in google to "excercise" the pixels.

When I "feel like" I do the white scrolling bar.

  • @PianoXfan1 i just bought the tcp42s2 panny plasma cause it seems pretty good for a plasma and i wanted to go panasonic. its not even here yet, hasnt shipped. but ive been doing a lot of homework and that is also my biggest worry. im only going to be gaming on the tv cause i watch tv and movies on my comp. from what ive heard, if you do a proper break in you should have no ib problems. there might be some ir here and there but white wash/screen wipe shuld get rid of it.

  • @Maiku2010 Yeah My father got himself an LG (cant think of the model) its a 42 inch LG plasma... And they watch alot of CP24 (Toronto news channel) and already it has burn in... Right now I have my xbox plugged into there plasma and music playing... When music is playing sorta like on windows media you get colourful shit and i set it on full screen... Im not sure if there is a burn in wipe thing on the LG but ill go through the options... I think for me ill go LCD cuz burn in is a big issue

  • @PianoXfan1 i see, did he not break it in properly? i plan on doing a 200 hour break in and then playing ps3 around 4 hours at a time. it should be able to handle it. id buy another 42" hdtv (lcd) right now if i could. there is a great deal at futureshop going. since you live in canada ill tell you about it. go to the futureshop.ca website youll see it there. its a home thatere bundle: 42" lcd 1080p lg 120ghz 2ms + bluray player + 5 speakers + some stand with 3 shelves to place the tv on.

  • @Maiku2010 atm due to my budget im holding off on buying a new TV... But no it was not broken in properly... There is a 2 year warenty on it so if the burn in does not go awayten it will be replaced... if it does fade and I think it may have already gone away ten ill show him how to break it in with the xbox. Thanks man ttyl

  • @matthewraser I have an samsung plasma TV and gotten burn in by playing saboteur the mini map won't go away. How I fix it?? :(

  • @Halokillzone23 Does it show up on screen even with the TV turned off? If not, that is NOT burn in, that will "wash" away over time.

  • @Halokillzone23 It might be image retention which is different from burn-in. Image retention should go away with a quick wash. Most, if not all, plasma tv's come with a setting that will wipe the screen. Somewhere in the menu's, check the manual. Run that for about an hour and it should go away.

  • @matthewraser neh dont worry. If you have pixel shift then you'll be fine. I cant even notice when mine shifts

  • @matthewraser i doubt it unless you could somehow manage to play the game for like 70 hours straight you shouldnt burn any, however this is why i bought a LCD tv so i dont have to worry about image burn
