the amazing thing about potter is that no matter what time signature he's playing in he makes it feel so comfortable. if you're not paying attention you almost don't realize he's not in four. this is incredible
@gjbsaxman94 nah man it's a two bar phrase-4 and 7/8. you're counting it as if the 8th note was the quarter note. I suppose you could count it like that, but this is a common jazz format.
dig the Kenny Garrett quote a la "Wayne's Thang" at 7:57. Chris Potter works it out even though he doesn't sound quite as nice on his Mark VI as he does on his Super Action.
@odizouu Yeah, I wasn't saying that he was quoting Wayne's Thang itself. I recognized that lick from a particular solo of Kenny Garrett on Wayne's Thang. I guess I can see why you were confused, though. Thanks for the info just the same.
great to watch sting playing drums back in the old days :-)

ari's amazing!!!!!

It could be 15/8 with one bar of 4/4 and one bar 7/8. Dave Liebman has composed a tune in the same time signature called "New Mambo".

The time is in 15/8. Or 7.5/8 time if it's too tricky.

@pebblefrog196
I'd just think of it as a bar of 4/4 then a bar of 7/8
zoels 5 months ago

I don't like the way that snare sounds. Maybe it's the recording. I do like the way these two cats sound though.

@SaxHero Its not Wayne's Thang it is Jean Pierre (by Miles Davis) also played by Kenny ;)
