have the same problem with my G71 laptop. I didn't open a thing and it was with Vista. Took it for repair to Asus and they entirely replaced the video card. Working fine for a couple of months and now the problem is back.
I think it is a global Asus mechanical problem with their laptops with connections in the folding area.
I had the same issue man, just when i got the computer actually.
I ignored and over time it suddenly stoppe doing it.
Allthough i encountered worse problems later on, such as screen going totally white, or loose connection to the screen which indicated a totally black display.
I just sent mine in for repair due to no connection to the screen, failing boot, and major overheating issues.
I have the same issue, it is obviously hardware, I'm looking for an assembly guide to see if I can make the repair myself. If you know of one please post it here, if I find one I will.
This email is regards to a G2s that was sent in for repair. Unfortunately we could not duplicate the problems described ( static lines and flickering of the display). We have tried running 3D applications as well as moving the screen back and forth to see if was a loose connection, but were unable to see the problem. Since there is no hard drive sent in with the unit we couldn't test it with your software. Please let us know if its okay to send this unit back.

Hello, Tex, we wanted to send you one final report that everything has
passed our stress test. We reloaded OS, and did a lot of screen
swiveling around the hinge area to try to duplicate the issue, but the
LCD image is still fine. There is an error with one of the files on
your hard drive. So let us know if it is okay to reload the operating
system and send back.
