that is the real end written, the ovas was a fake end....the real end by the manga (the original kenshin' saga) he is in a picnic with all his friends, kaoru and kenji. Period.... i was traumatized by the ovas'end, I love kenshin , and seeing him dying made me feel awfull for a few weeks.

This is so much closer to the manga than the original OVA ending...while I don't think Seisouhen was salvagable, they should have at least kept this ending....

Manga is superior to this OVA. Ugh, I hate how they portrayed Saitou in this OVA. In the manga, he declines Kenshin's challenge and learn to walk away from their rivalry. He no longer has an urge to kill kenshin anymore. I don't know why the people in charge of the anime felt the need to completely ruin a good anime series, but they did.

And, I agree with everyone else. This would have been the perfect ending to the series, but they had to add that pointless and depressing ending to the OVAs. And even though I'm pissed off they even ended it like that (and ending, by the way, the creator doesn't even endorse), I'm incredibly pissed off the US version cut this out all together. Kenshin deserved better than that.

well ive peiced it together, i think he's basically saying: kaoru you shoudl'nt look to me for your way of life, i killed everyone and living with that weight on your shoulders is no way to live. it's that kind of thought being conveyed anyway but dont quote me on that one! Hope i was of some help

But then, he has claimed himself to be the winner because Kenshin the Battousai is already dead, while he is still standing.

That's what Saito said to Kaoru. He's sort of insulting Kenshin for becoming a peace-loving wimp.

And then, he tells Kaoru that she doesn't need to worry because he will try to get along with Kenshin even if Kenshin is no longer a killer.

i think saitoh was talking to kaoru about wanting to finish his fight to kill the battousai but doesn't want to anymore since the battousai in kenshin is dead. and i think that kenshin was telling kaoru about how he still feels much guilt about killing the man who gave him his first scar and goes to visit the family to try and help but it doesn't work. he tells kaoru if she needed anything he would do it b/c she did so much for him and she says that with him she can survive. something like that.
