@bagpiper2005 Yes, it is in B-flat. When you say interesting, what exactly do you mean? Most ringers would say that these are very good. Is it just because they're very big?
They are the best peal of bells in the world and I do miss ringing them an awful lot. The other advantage is that they maybe 3 tons but they certainly don't go it. You get used to them fairly quickly. As long as you give a good tug on the handstoke (so to lift the backstroke) your fine. Just remember the old Potter philosophy, "Do as I say, now what you think!", and "Ring by rhythm".
Nowhere sounds better than York, and they are not difficult to ring as there is little tower movement and they don't fight back.
Leeds are very rewarding when rung well because they are bloody difficult to ring as you're ringing the tower as well! But a 40cwt Taylor 12 cast in 1932 shouldn't sound anything but good when rung well!!
Haven't rung at Worcester Cathedral yet but we're booked in a couple of weeks before 12-bell final. Good practice for beasts at St Pauls on 4th July!! Mind you, ringing at Leeds every week is good preparation regading the main (and possibly only rule) for ringing difficult heavy bells: PULL THE BLOODY HANDSTROKE EVERY TIME!!!
I have no idea who rang the tenor, the only person I know is David Potter on the 11th. I agree with you, it was rung like a true pro, and made to look easy. My own view is that if there were to pe a peal of bells in heaven then I think it would be York Minister with the Minster ringers. Just sensational ringing and hte sound is DEVINE.

Steve (My dad was a bell hanger for Whitechapel as well)
Yes I did ring, it was only rounds but still I got to ring, Yes I do realise it was cinques and not maximus but thought plain hunt on 11 sounded funny to write. My father Ernie Rowe had never rung at York Minster so it was great to be able to say hey dad guess where I rung. But even though I have loyality to Whitechapel I do think these are the best sounding peal anywhere.
best tenor in the world. end of story. magical.

Mr. Potter's a legend! I agree with you about the long pull at backstroke! They easily flop at hand, not that I did a lot of that.

I also have loyalty to Whitechapel, as my hometower are Mears and Stainbank, a very good peal of bells, alothough I am quite baised.
These are a good peal of bells, I admit but I have rung on some "Stonking" Whitechapel bells in my time. Many in North Yorkshire.
Thanks for the reply,
Rob.

My opinion has changed for the better having rung on them last week! : ) Ho Ho Bloody Ho! ; )
1BODGER95 2 years ago
the question is, would they be as good if they were cast by Whitechapel?
irkibby 2 years ago
Wow! You are very lucky to have seen this. Did you ring?
I believe that you have to be invited nowadays?
BTW, this is plain hunt Cinques.

Very good sir!
Note that clavier for the chime, now thats a massive huge clavier lol. The 24 other carillon bells were only added last year.
