  • Indeed these guys were on fire that night

  • From Wiki:

    Live performances

This song was played throughout the Hot Space Tour and to an extent, on The Works Tour. The live version of Staying Power is slightly different than the album version. Morgan Fisher would take over the keyboard parts and replace the Oberheim with the Roland Jupiter 8. Taylor would replace the drum machine with acoustic drums. Also of note is that it would be the only song played live in which Deacon played rhythm guitar, as the bass was done via keyboard.

  • John Deacon is playing guitar!!!

  • I love this version. It would be great with the horns too.

  • I love this version.

  • Can anyone give me a link so i can download this concert? I can't find it!

If someone has a link I would be very grateful!

  • Whats goin on here Deacon is playing rythym guitar

  • @Maguirearch No he's not. He just switches bass' a lot throughout the concert.

  • I wonder when we're gonna make it!

I wonder when we're gonna shake it!

    Love it!!!

  • I was taken back when Hot Space came out but now listening to it, the playing was top drawer. John Deacon was funking the place up with this bass riffs

One thing about Queen they were unique they never followed other bands that is what made them great.

  • "Hot Space" is my least favorite Queen Album, having been a Queen fan all my life. To me, they were my Beatles. This rendition of the starting track of the album is great, far better than the studio version. Brian May adds a rock element to this kind of music. From what I understand, Brian hated this type of music. The other three had to soften him up in order to get him to go along.

  • Love Freddie -> 1:48-1:55

  • "The Game" was the album before this..Songs like "Another One Bites The Dust" & "Dragon Attack" had that bass driven funkier and more dance oriented sound...

I think that this album is a bit harder to appreciate from both the listeners perspective and the musicians perspective if your' just not into genres like soul, R&B and hip-hop...

  • I just tanscribed this from the DVD as I typed this...It is from about 16:27/0:143:31 til about 16:53/01:43:31...

My impression as a fan and a musician is that from a fans perspective many fans preferred the edgier side of perhaps "Queen I" and the more "Prog" sound of "Queen II"...Also I am 28 yrs. old, if that helps you see my perspective better...

  • Hot space is of one of my favorite albums...I love this song...I am listening to it live again because at first I did not care for this version...

If you remember he mentions something about, "Most of you know we got some new sounds out...For what it's worth we're gonna do some a few songs in the funk-black category. Whatever you call it...Doesn't mean we lost our rock n roll feel...We just wanna try a few sounds..."

  • One of the best performances ever.

  • John plays guitar very well. Truly fantastic!

  • Hot Space is pretty cool, but it is difficult to celebrate it live. It is better to enjoy in a disco, but hell, find a f´´´íng DJ in these times who put on that record.

  • I'm not a huge fan of Hot Space as Queen albums go. Nor was I a great fan of the studiio version of this particular song on the album. But, by god, playing it live changes this song completely. It is a great song live. Makes you completely re-appreciate it.

  • @Jimmyduudah

I was thinking the same thing. It's refreshing hearing these songs because they didn't play them much on the subsequent tours.

  • vacansisimo el tipo un mounstruo en escena¡¡

  • john playng a guitar lool but is freddie a good guitarrist too?

  • not really, he could only play three chords, sometimes he plays guitar part for crazy thing called love on the live shows.

  • no he doesn't...but he was a good singer!!!

  • 2:47 John an Brian both playing the same riff and John with electric guitar. You don't see that very often!

  • John is an awesome guitar player!!!

  • aaah what a fucking god hear him singing is like have one foot in heaven :P

  • amazing performance

one of their all time best imo !

  • no problem mate just a misunderstanding :)

  • hmm i was just trying to be helpful...and you asked the instrument and i told you, no reason to make a fuss of it...

  • the black fender telecaster

  • They realy went to town on the performence of this song(and Back Chat) because they realised that the dico/funk album versions were a mistake and damaged there reputation.

  • freddies vocals are awesome on this.

  • I love this performance. Lively and great vocals!

  • I wonder if anyone knows any group from this era (or any era) that makes similar music...I would very much appriciate every tip I can get!

  • love the bridge

  • Dosen't matter. gay or straight Freddie just too sexy.

  • lol

  • I remember looking at a Queen album I think it was the Works record and this dude walks by and made a remark about queers buying their music....and I did buy the Album....even after my friends heard it..and became Queen fans..I only saw Queen once back in early 70"s touring with Mott the Hoople....Queen just blowed people away it was so great !!!!

  • The guy who said that is a queer, Queen rocks.

  • i really like his high notes!

  • this song make me dance!! mi fa ballareeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! wiiiii! Ooh let me show to you! yeeeeeea!

  • Hell yes! Me to!! Look, do you any other group that uses these typical drum machine sounds and synths? I want more of this music :) Any tip would be great! Thank you!

  • why didnt they put this song on their everyday-setlist until Wembley?? this fucking rocks and even Queen-haters (yes they do exist!) admit it!

  • oh staying power formidabile

  • This live version is sooooo much better than the album version. Brian May plays a blinder on this.

  • i loveeee staying power! la adoroo sta canzone! queen amoriiii mieiii!

  • queen the best...

  • if John is playing an electric guitar... who then is playing the bass guitar??

  • well in the studio version of staying power there was no bass line, it was made with the synth, and so john in the live version played electric guitar since there was no bass line to play

  • it is a rhythm guitar, so you need no Bass ;-)

  • One thing it's true...the live version is too better than the studio version (Talking about Hot Space specially)

    Queen RULEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!

  • is john deacon playng an electric guitar???

  • wow i'd never realize about that

wow john really rocks!!!! is a telecaster

    fantastic john rules wow

    oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh is great

  • Yeahh!!!! John is a very good guitar player...

  • yes, as good as a bass player xD

  • "I'm just a regular dynamo..." GO FREDDIE!!! : )

  • Wow..! Great performance! A bit more demanding than the usual powerrock they played live. As if they where a funk band now.. Well executed!

And John Deacon on the GUITAR is a pretty rare sight! The man was indeed funky.

  • i'm not agree whit who say that hot space was a bad album, there are melodies very very good like life is real or back chat, freddie in this album sohws a very particular voice, powerful and sweet at the same time, he is a god!

  • Oh my god, I love this man (L)

  • :34...my God...could he be any more gorgeous?? : )

  • Sometimes I think it's impossible, but then I see another clip and realize he's always outdoing HIMSELF ;D

  • freddie eres inimitable

    eres unico,

    no habta otro como vos

  • brillante freddie nel 1982 al milton keynes bowl. : )

  • queen the best!

  • This song Rocks!

  • Many people think that Michael Jackson influenced "Hot Space" but it was the other way round! Jackson himself admitted that "Hot Space" influenced some things on "Thriller" (he started to record it just as Queen finished recording "Hot Space", and Freddie and Michael were big friends at the time). So "Hot Space" wasn't really half as bad as most people labeled it, it was just it was unlike anything Queen have ever done. Personally I love this album. Shows how versatile they were.

  • Exactly people were thrown off of it because Queen changed its style, they didnt expect it =P

  • You're right. When Queen recorded this album, they were experimenting with another kind of rythms. For example, musical taste of John Deacon was different from Brian and Roger. John liked rythms like Funk. You can see that in songs like "Back Chat". Experimentation was fundamental in this album and that's what kept them alive. In my opinion, it's a great album, totally different of the other ones.

  • 100% AGREE!!!

    QUEEN RULEEESSSS!!!!

  • i dont really like Hot Space album, of couse i love "las palabras del amor", "under Pressure" I preffer the hard rock/symphonyc side of Queen but this live version ROCKS!!

    Grettings from Argentina

  • I disliked the studio version, but this one kicks arse.

  • this is my favorite live conert ever!!

  • HammerToFall13194, it's my favortie too! I am addicted to this concert! : )

  • it's amazing! personally, i like it a little better than wembly.

  • Freddie's voice is definitely in better shape here than at Wembley.

  • well duh he was fighting a cold in Wembley

  • I'm not bashing it. I was just responding to HammerToFall saying it wouldn't be weird to like it better than Wembley, seeing as his voice is in better shape.

  • freddie is in the tops for best singer in history and the rest of the band has their phenomonal skills.

  • best version of staying power!

  • from live in the rainbow at 75 (as a remember) to the wembley 86, the performances of queen had no equal,

    love queen on fire!!

  • magnifici!!!

  • on fire

  • Nice! I've only started to listen to songs from the notorious hot space. But the songs aren't half-bad! If only it wasn't Queen who put out the album, then it might not have been held in such high expectation.:P

    Awesome performance, as always.<33

  • Wow! This is a perfect example of how versatile Queen truly was! This is some straight up James Brown stuff and Freddie and the boys nailed it!

  • Brilliant! This could easily be a heavy metal song if they wanted it so... Queen, the greatest band of all time.

    Thanks guys.

  • freddie i love you soo much

and this song makes me feel so happy i dance everytime!

    miss you R.I.P

  • what a voice!!!!

  • The way these guys can transform any of their songs on live gigs in just unique.

  • Yeah i like the fact that they dont try to reproduce their albums live. Thats what they said and they did it this way and its awesome!

  • GENIOOOSS

  • About 200 times better than the record, this is truly awesome!

  • I lo♥e queen
